Coaching is terrible.

What a jerk.

First, Kadary has played well. His early offensive stats were good. His defense has been consistently great to the point of being the best perimeter guard in the conference as of a few games ago.

Second, if your justification for playing JGIII, someone who is not an ACC-caliber guard, is lying about how poorly his backup has played, you are showing your true colors.

Buddy is very very lucky that JGIII is as bad as he is and JB plays him or else these questions would be about Buddy instead of JGIII and that’s a whole other can of worms.

There is a case to make that JGIII and Buddy should be on the bench.

Bras and Kadary are our best defenders by far. Q is our best player. AG is our second best player even tho he’s auditioning.

We’ve been mediocre the better part of a decade. Have had sanctions. Our coach is playing his son 40 minutes because he’s his son. And our recruiting has tailed off hard. JB is a legend. But he’s running on his name and not his ability at this point.

I thought that against Buffalo.
I remember in 2017 when we started conference play and Frank Howard got banished to the bench in conference play against Miami and JG took over as a 40 minute guy and the team turned around the season.

JB made the adjustment.

He has stunted KR’s confidence by not just giving the rope he has give JG3.

Annnndd, just like clockwork the scenario starts to play out. He's asked about JG3 and tosses in a "he hasn't played well when given the opportunity" about Kadary. The dynamic young player we saw when Buddy was out, who gave us defense, passing vision, and confidence, gets sat down, is likely admonished about his play, becomes hesitant and loses his swag, and when questioned, JB acts like an abusive boyfriend who blames the victim. Unreal.

imagine if Richmond were allowed to play through some poor play the way Girard has been allowed to play through two years of sht play. Frankly Richmond's poor play is nowhere near as bad as Girard’s poor play. AND Richmond gives you better pg play, defense and rebounding. Girard gives nothing else when his shot shot doesn’t go in - which is most of the time.

If you’re Kadary what is going through your head right now?
He got 18 minutes. I’d like to see more (much less Girard) because we need his defense at the top of the zone but that’s a decent amount of time. He needs to produce more in the time he’s given. He should focus on getting into the paint and either dishing to an open man or attacking the rim. He has seemed hesitant since we returned from the Covid pause. Hopefully he gets it together.

I don’t love Girard playing 40mpg. I see him as more of a microwave guy coming off the bench. But he was pretty good last year. I thought he’d be improved this season. Why has he regressed so badly?
i mean these are real people not video game characters.

I'm sure they hear the negativity and criticism pretty loudly. Some may be much more sensitive than many realize. This is a guy who grew up in NY...bleeds orange and wants nothing more than to win.

On top of that he had a pretty solid freshman year.

I'm betting its getting to him that hes been turned on by the fanbase.

But on top of all that...this year sucks. These guys normally get so much love from their fellow students/fans/alumni...easy to keep your chest puffed out.

Now, in these isolation times none of that is there. Everyone is in a bubble and maybe for the players that really feed off all of the hullaballo of being a college bball player and all of its trappings its extra hard right now.

Also missing 40 days of practice is not insignifcant that is a MAJOR DISADVANTAGE.

I am not happy with the games I have seen this year at all...but I have also had the thought that if this board really wants a winner...publically sh((((((ting all over the program is probably not helping...and many are going that route. the best fans in the country are MIA...that is having a huge impact on performance, imo.

Lastly - the system doesnt work. It could work if 4 year playing was the norm...it could really get revved up so everyone out there was firing on the same page and really knew it inside out. But now players are only here long enough to learn it then leave befor the team benefits. in essence, the team suffers learning pains that it never benefits from. the approach is way too rigid, the best caches are flexible and make adjustments to what is happening...in theory that is what the zone is for...but its not playing out like that when players cant execute. its like those old english regiments in the revolutionary war who stood in lines facing each other to shoot. the game has changed...3point shooting is common...before it used to be rare. teams are slicing it up now. theres no reflexiveness in the approach...its way too formulaic and predictable to work.

I think this is right.

I mean it wouldn’t hurt to run him off screens. Again we do zilch to help our players.

they curl him off screens every game. But since he isn’t fast it’s not hard to stay with him around screens. When the other team has superior athletes the game becomes very difficult. I cannot envision Jim recruiting over Buddy at this point so get used to what you see against ACC level competition.

It's nice to dedicate yourself to playing zone 24/7.
But what happens when the zone gets carved up for easy buckets as Pitt did today?
You need to change tactics.
And the Orange won't.
That is a problem.

On offense, PG play is the biggest problem.
Kadary got the keys in the 2nd half and the car didn't go very far.
But it looks like his instincts are right...drive it.

It’s unreal JB takes no accountability of any kind. You are the one that are suppose to draw up the plays. He doesn’t listen to asst coaches and I know this FOR A FACT. They have great ideas and great concepts to have different looks on offense and defense and JB doesn’t want to do them. I’ve known JB for a long time and I know the assts and what goes on even more. His old methods and theories simply do not work. It’s that easy to figure out. He think he knows every thing and it’s everyone else’s fault. When they play well it’s his good doing. I would rather go 0-25 next year and watch a different brand of basketball. This stubbornness is ridiculous

Some good points but that just blew my mind.

It’s bad (shot selection) but the talent is worse. We are rolling out 3 star players all over the court. Nobody can create or guard. There has been collective delusion on this board about our recruiting.
I don't buy that we don't have enough talent to compete better. The problem is they don't seem to have any direction. The offense is basically playground ball. There's very little off ball movement, very few "real" screens, and not much effort to get our shooters into good positions. JBs teams of the past overcame talent deficiencies with teamwork. I don't see a whole lot of that. Heck, we struggle to even inbound the ball after a timeout. How hard is it to get ONE guy open???

No doubt. And we owe JB so very much for his long run during his glory years. He is and will be the face of Syracuse basketball. It's so sad to see it play out like this at the twilight of his career.
This kind of comment irks me. I understand it, but I disagree. I think it would be equally wrong to say that John Thompson or Jim Calhoun or Dean or Self are and always will be the face of Georgetown, UConn, Carolina, or Kansas. Even Wooden. Those guys represent icons in history. But you move on. To me, it’s like standing in the middle of Manhattan and saying it’s the center of the universe. That’s an emotional/nostalgic perspective, but then when you see the earth within the cosmos, it’s a sensibility that is rendered a bit silly.

JB had his time. We owe him nothing except respect and well wishes... but goodwill erodes. Legacies get tarnished. And people who have a great deal of pride often don’t recognize how much damage they are doing as they try to recover from the deficits that erode those legacies.
