Coaching is terrible.

If JB wants Joe and Buddy to be effective you need a big who demands a double team. This would give them some open looks. How this coaching staff put this roster together is insane. There are no guards coming in next year and still no post presence. I have hopes for Frank, but until he figures things out and gets some playing time, nothing will change. The best defensive team would have Kadary and Griffin in the backcourt with rotating Quincy, Bras and Newton at the forwards. Have Buddy and Joe come off the bench and give a little pop off the bench. Force the opposing team to game plan them coming off the bench. Marek is not deserving of 40 minutes a game. Teams have zero respect for him in the middle of the zone. JB might have answers, but he‘s unwilling to change his pre-determined starting lineup.

Meh I’m skeptical about defense with Griffin. He’s as bad as anyone else out there. He just watches and couldn’t identify their one shooter the second half.

He might be better on top. He gets lost when players are moving behind him. It would also allow him to get out on the break.

We gave up 90 points in the last 29 minutes of play. Where's Fab Melo when we need him? Never thought I'd see that

So "we have no viable alternatives" for the guards, and "we don't have an answer" to improve the defense. Ridiculous statements to make, even if true. It places all the blame at the players feet when he should be aiming higher up the ladder. It's going to be a long season.

The three tallest available players on our roster aren't able to come in and simply defend the basket.

It's always sad when you see a legend fall from grace. Time waits for no man, and the game eventually passes everyone by -- even legends.

This team can’t defend in the half court. JB might try using the press and use the entire roster and keep the game in full court mode. He needs to adjust the press so it’s not an all out “try to steal the ball“ press but one to try and wear down the opposing team. Take advantage of Woody, Bras and Kadary’s length and get Joe and Buddy threes in transition. This team won’t win playing the style they are currently playing.

I agree with this. We have no players who can play with their back to the basket inside. These are the type of players /situations that create double teams and open looks for kick outs. We don’t even try to do this.

Perhaps, but no one is advocating for Griffin to get 40 minutes at the 2. We have a team loaded with flawed players, so it’s on JB how to build combos that accentuate certain things, and hide others. Right now he’s not even trying to do that.

Annnndd, just like clockwork the scenario starts to play out. He's asked about JG3 and tosses in a "he hasn't played well when given the opportunity" about Kadary. The dynamic young player we saw when Buddy was out, who gave us defense, passing vision, and confidence, gets sat down, is likely admonished about his play, becomes hesitant and loses his swag, and when questioned, JB acts like an abusive boyfriend who blames the victim. Unreal.

No doubt. And we owe JB so very much for his long run during his glory years. He is and will be the face of Syracuse basketball. It's so sad to see it play out like this at the twilight of his career.

Q can play w his back to basket. We never make an effort to get him the ball there though. He had his guy pinned down low and was begging for the ball at one point in the first half. Griffin had an easy entry pass, but just stared at Q for a moment before driving and turning it over. Brutal.

Q isn’t big enough to demand a double team, but he does create problems when he gets touches down low. I’d rather he get the ball down low instead of all the three bombs.
