Cuse vs. Tennessee in Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game - Atlanta 2025

Not a fan of this. I like seasons that start with a confidence builder or two.
I mean, the value of this as a confidence builder is much bigger than the value of a win over a pushover. And the risk is much lower than the nd/usc level. If we’re not good enough to have a fair chance against tenny (not favorites but fair chance), that’s on us

This could be a fun game, hopefully by then we're a solidified program that at minimum gets to a bowl game every year

This is a PR game. Our brand matters still so I take it as a positive. No one with a brain has any idea competitively how we'll look in 4 years. We could be top 5, bottom 5, middle 5.

I am a sucker for the kickoff classics. The Wisconsin one was such a delightful surprise in 97. It can set the tone for sure for the year.

I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but you don't need to be afraid of Tennessee. They haven't won 10 games since 2007 and have had many losing seasons recently.

This is a fantastic opportunity for big-time national exposure.
I think we have said that every time we schedule a game like this, then we go out and get our arses kicked. We have no idea what UT will be in 2025, but we have a pretty good idea that SU will still be SU, meaning fighting for bowl eligibility. I would have been fine with this if we didn't already have ND and Army on the schedule that year. it's stupid and it's a Dr. Gross style cash grab

I don't get some of you... this is awesome. National game to kick off the season, great pub for the program, and a fun trip to close out the summer.

We already have Army and UConn home games on the OOC sked for '25. That's 2 wins, unless we're dreadful. Tennessee is as likely to be awful as they are to be an SEC giant in 4 years. It's not like we scheduled Bama.

Oooooh, but Scooch, I'm ascared, we need to schedule for six wins!

1) If we're still white knuckling for 6 wins against garbage competition four years from now, here's a hint, we're still a mediocre-to-terrible program and it doesn't really matter anyway.

2) If getting 4 wins in the ACC is an unattainable task, see #1.

My goodness, go enjoy the Albany game. I'll be in Atlanta in 4 years.

those USC games really helped our program, same with LSU. look how respected we are now. I would actually have loved this game, just not in the same year as ND and Army. Don't look at Army as some pushover, ask Oklahoma and Michigan about that these last few years

I’m scared when we play Liberty so a public service announcement about not being scared of an SEC team makes no sense when we won 1 stinkin’ game last year.

All that being said…. bring it on!

Don't worry so much. Go to the game, have a great time and party it up with SEC fans who are a riot, and let's hope we get the W. It should be an amazing day.

It's just Tennessee, not Bama.

Some of our fans stress way too much about whether we have a slightly better statistical chance of making the Duke's Mayo Bowl or whatever.

Dino is HC 2021. 2022 we get 5 wins and miss a bowl. Fans push Wildhack towards a new HC for 2023, recruiting class blows up, new system install for 2024, we win 4.

2025: WHO THE HELL THOUGHT PLAYING AN SEC TEAM WAS A GOOD IDEA

Well if we can't schedule beyond Army I don't know what to tell you. Just enjoy the game. Like I said, if we're scratching and clawing for 6 wins in 2025, because we've lost to Army, and we can't beat BC/Pitt/Wake, and a loss to a 4-8 Tennessee team killed us... then we still suck, and who cares anway?

Ferris: "Cam, did you hear that Syracuse is playing Tennessee?! Should be a fun time. Life is short and you have to enjoy fun college football matchups before you die."

Cam: "We're going to be bad in 2025. I just know it. I'm not getting out of bed until this game is cancelled."

We need wins to get the recruiting base built up. The way to get wins is to schedule soft right now. We have been through WAY too many years of scheduling way over our head and we have crap to show for it. How many top 40 schedules have we played? A ton. What has it done for us? Got us 1-4 wins. It never changes

That being said, it's always difficult to look past the seductiveness of the matchup. I look forward to the opportunity to beat this SEC team to start the 2025 season. And if we don't, we probably crash and burn again

I think we are going to scratch and claw basically every year. do I think we should accept what we have seen the last two years as par for the course? hell no. However, I think we are who we are and scheduling this way is not smart for us, it never has helped the program, beyond some extra cash back in our Big East days when we were getting garbage money from BE television deals. Like I said, schedule this in a year without ND and I am ok with it, Army or not.

you pay for my trip down there, I am in! I got college stuff to worry about with my kids! So, I will take your advice and go back to worrying about that instead ;)

A game like this, especially a marquee one, I think is OK. And like someone said earlier Tennessee hasn't been great recently. Need one or two of these to break up the ho hum OOC games which are great for our record but not exactly the most interesting games on paper

Thing is, it's not like we can dictate when we get these kind of opportunities. Hell, I'm stunned we got this one. So if you wanted JW to pass, that's fine. I'd be disappointed if he did that, seeing as the chance may not come again for a long time.

If you're able to make it down there you can drink/eat 100% for free at our tailgate. I just realized I will be in my early 40s for this game -- good lord.

fair point, I have to admit my initial hatred of this due to the timing is waning, we just need to win the damn game now, dammit. Maybe Tennessee will hire Ash to be their coach in 2025, that would make me feel better!

Exactly! I’m a big proponent of a scheduling for success. However, If this is year 9 of Dino, then we should be able to compete. If we’re in another rebuild under another coach, there’s probably not that much fun about following SU football at that point anyway, so might as well have a fun road trip
