Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

You can blame the brokers, too. They are the ones trying to set an artificially high market rates. It seems that home prices are "trying" to go up by about $100,000 now that the pandemic seems over. Wait until the late fall and you'll get a much more reasonable price. It's not like anybody is making more money since the pandemic, except for Jeff Bezos.

You misspelled Marty Zero.

Not development related, but I was in Syracuse this weekend for Mother's Day. It was my wife's first Mother's Day, and all that she wanted to do was go out for a nice dinner - something that we haven't done since pre-pandemic. I ended up making reservations at Saint Urban Wine Bar and it was absolutely fantastic.

I enjoy unique dining experiences, and there is nothing else like it in the Syracuse area. I'd definitely recommend it, but be prepared to get dinged in the wallet a bit. It was worth it though, especially for a special occasion. As an added bonus, Jim and Juli Boeheim showed up at around 9 p.m. for dinner and sat at the table next to us. I was proud of my wife for recognizing them as soon as they walked in the door, since although she indulges in my love of SU athletics, she's not always the most into it.

Casual dress?

Uh oh...a sub sandwich article. This is CuseTroop 's bat signal! He is a true connoisseur.

I would have went with Darwin's over Brooklyn Pickle. I need to get to the Fair Deli, that place looks amazing, Fair Deli Craft Beer

I forgot Green Hills, that was on the list too

Fair Deli used to be great, pre-COVID. Outstanding imported beer selection. Owner really suffered though, not sure they will reopen.

DiBella's on Bridge Street MUST be on there. Oswego Sub Shop may be a bit too far away, but they are better than many on the Top 10 list, too.

Negative story about Fair Deli. Byrne Dairy is targeting him to put him out of business. They put the one right across from Crucible, and then they put another one right across the street from him about a mile up the road.

I caught him one night as he was about to close, and used to bring him my business whenever I was in the area at lunchtime. I mentioned "screw those guys from Byrne Dairy; I'm still coming here". He said something like "thanks for supporting us. Let me make you something special - an imported prosciutto sub". He charged me $11 or 12.

This was at the beginning of COVID, right before literally everyone shut down. I thanked him, got out to my car, and it was just a generic ham sub with some cheap ham, not even good stuff, lettuce and mayo.

So, he figured, let me hustle a few extra bucks off this guy because I don't when I'll be open next.

I've never gone back. Terrible way to treat a professed fan who drove distance to come there specifically to give him business.

Fair Deli is still open. My in laws live around the corner. The do close at like 7 though.

Went to Heids last week.

I won’t share my order, but it was disrespectful to the Temple that is my body.

it was delicious, and honestly there may be no better combo on earth than a lightly charred hotdog with brown mustard/relish chased with Birch Beer.

Which of these things is not like the other?

Oh, I know! Brooklyn Pickle. Love for that place astounds me.

Always loved the same thing (switch the relish to the coney), but I could swear that they've changed their product. Last two times (once in summer 2019, once late last summer) I went there, the dogs and coneys were weird. Smaller, different taste and texture. I'm not anxious to return, though there's no logical replacement out there...not a lot of hot dog shacks around in 2021.

I agree, the coneys are less snappy and the franks are a bit different. But I still go to town

I wish they’d switch to char grilled like Ted’s in Buffalo. Good lord that place is heaven on Earth.
