Just saw on LinkedIn that the old Syracuse Lighting Company building on Genant Dr was acquired by The ICON Companies. It was Syracuse's first electric power plant and a predecessor to Niagara Mohawk/National Grid. Norm Swanson originally had plans to redevelop this as a mixed-use property with apartments and a beer garden, but those plans fell through with the uncertainty surrounding 81.

It's literally right on 81, adjacent to the big power substation.

It's surprising that this property has lingered. It's been under contract twice in the last couple years, first for apartments and then for mini-storage. Cost of construction is a huge barrier to redevelopment right now, and without historic or low-income housing tax credits it's hard to move forward with this type of property.

Joanie Mahoney got a bunch of shite from the naysayers when she pushed to build the Amp and I'm here to tell you it's the best achievement of her tenure as county exec. I just got home from seeing Loverboy, REO and Styx - I think it's the 5th show I've been to this year. What a great venue and thank goodness she knew nothing would ever change with the War Memorial and pushed to get Syracuse it's own amphitheater.

I’ll admit that I was skeptical, and I really don’t know about the finances of the place, but purely from an entertainment standpoint, it’s been a massive success. 90% of the acts that come here you would likely have had to drive to Darien Lake or SPAC to see before. Aesthetically speaking, it’s one of the more beautiful amphitheaters that I’ve been to as well.

Agreed although I think the lawn area at CMAC is pretty substandard. At least from what I recall at the last concert I went to there 10 years ago.

RIP John Gormel. He never wanted any other restaurant/bar to succeed in Liverpool except for his places and the Barking Gull on the parkway had sat there empty for years until the place next to it opened and was successful. Then he bought them out and closed both places down.

John Gormel opened The Retreat 50 years ago. He also owned The Barking Gull and The Cobblestone.

FWIW, I'm not noticing too many eyebrow-raising restaurant property sales out there.
