Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

So now it’s going to take me an hour to do the 10 mile drive to Cicero from Baldwinsville instead of a half hour. Hopefully they can figure out a way to widen 31 because it’s already a shat show.

Genuine question, was this al Hochul or did McMahon have a major hand to?

Bad to admit but I’ve just not had time to follow along the build up to this

from the Post Standard article:

Schumer, Hochul and Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said they formed a bipartisan team that worked for almost two years trying to lure Micron to Central New York with a package of incentives and a relentless effort to showcase the region’s assets.

Looks like this has been ongoing for a long while. Probably a whole host of people who have worked to make the package possible. A lot of the legal framework was signed into law by Hochul.

ETA: It's notable that Katko did buck the GOP this summer and voted for the Semiconductor bill.

They all had a hand, but without the Chips act this doesn't get done.

Al Stirpe and Rob Simpson also deserve call outs.
And the Chips Act would never have happened without COVID.

The county was aiming for a much smaller tenant and a much more modest investment and struck out a number of times going after these relatively small fish.

They saw the site had special qualities and might be suitable for a huge plant, kept buying more property and growing the site and ended up landing a monster.

Props to a bunch of people, all the way back to Nick Pirro. Hoping SU gets really involved in this. If Micron wants high level college grads to help staff this plant, SU would be a great partner. Sounds like the county is already working to get this happening.

Intel was the first target. It was going to be much smaller too. They ended up picking Ohio. It may have been a blessing in disguise.

Tremendous job! I think they were originally talking to AMD, who chose another location (Virginia, I think ...). So this is a huge "save".

And if you take into account JMA, who manufactures wireless technology, we are really building next generation employers here in CNY. This is very exciting for our future!
