Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

He also ordered the state to study the potential for new air pollution along the suburban route of Interstate 481 if the viaduct is removed and traffic diverts to 481.

Ya, gotta keep that air pollution isolated to the middle of the city. Don't want any of it in the burbs.

Nobody gave a crap that it was polluting the urban area for the past 6 decades.

Not really development news, but I was surprised to see this news this morning. They are saying what everyone has known for a while:

“It was overwhelmingly in favor of Keller,” Ment said. “The general view of Fitzpatrick is that he uses his office as a bully pulpit and sometimes abuses his power. After 32 years in office, our group is ready for a change.”

Among other details, the judge said DOT must account for traffic that will come from Micron Technology’s planned chip fab in Clay, which is expected to bring a surge of population growth to the area.
2050: The repair and replacement of the I-81 viaduct in downtown Syracuse is on hold again, as a State judge said that the traffic engineers failed to address the recent Mars colony and current sea levels, which have turned the once thriving city into a Lake Ontario beach front community.

He should have retired years ago but his ego won't let him. Hopefully with this change the voters will finally give him the boot.

Here is the simplest solution build out the I-481 overpasses with added width to add an extra 4th lane each way when traffic dictates.

I'm not totally sold on the approved plan but let's get this thing done. Enough friggin talk and delay.

Speculation abounds that this is the year Jim Boeheims cryogenically preserved head announces its retirement.

I suppose it's nice to see a proposed apartment development that doesn't look like the same bland crap that keeps going up around the University.

That is bland multi-million government subsidized crap, Sir. Not normal bland crap.

With Micron coming...time to stop the porkfest. That $20M subsidy for the East Genesee St. complex is criminal.

Agreed. Especially in that area. Clearly it’s in demand for developers. They don’t need subsidies to make a profit. Save the subsidies for historic rehabs/development in impoverished areas that might spur more development.

These are nice - can’t imagine why people would complain about these.

Tipp Hill has a crazy lack of affordable modern apartments and the area I believe this will go up in really needs a facelift.

Good idea, all for it. Ive lived my past 5 years up on tipp and as a local who lives there I support it

Maybe itll help bring some business to, and rejuvenate the west fayette/wilbur area.

OttoMets probably has more insight, but this firm appears to actually have a track record of building some pretty interesting stuff, so hopefully these concept renderings don't end up stripped down to the same generic crap we're used to seeing.

Chime in to the public comment period and express that neighborly opinion, seriously. It's hard to get feedback from community members who aren't affiliated with neighborhood associations, so I know it'd prove valuable as the concept plan moves toward finalization.

Yessir. The developer is a bunch of pros, but I know programming/site plan/aesthetic feedback is something they're sincere in wanting to hear. Not sure if we have a web link for that.

Where do I find that? Is there a forum or?

Developers were in town and presented to Westside TNT on Tuesday and Tipp Hill Neighborhood Association at Burnet Park on Wednesday. I'm honestly not sure where further feedback is supposed to be sent (my bad, not a great look).

I will say if you reach out to Councilor Hogan, he's very responsive to constituents and eager to hear neighbors' thoughts on this one. He's been involved in this almost since the beginning of the process.

Councilor Hogans on my street, I’ll see if I can catch him on one of his dog walks :)
