I think a comprehensive commuter bus system for Syracuse is a great idea, with designated lanes that only the buses can use. Pittsburgh does that very well.
You need to have enough buses to run the routes every half hour to be efficient.

What is the proper way to come down 481 and get to 81 south? Came home from the track sunday and this time actually looked at the signage closer.

You get to end of 481 and the signs say 481 ends follow the detour to 81.

Then you get to the end and the road splits and a big sign says for 81 north stay in left lane. So we go right lane and end up on a roundabout. No signs at all. Having been in this spot before we got around and up E. Breighton. Then I kinda remember where to go but we get to the intersection of E. Seneca turnpike.

Again no signs at all. We go about 100 yds and we think yes we were supposed to go down the turnpike and end up on 11 and then work our way south to 81. So we turn around and find our way.

How can this signage be so bad?

Are you supposed to go to the left lane to 81 north and then get off like at exit 17 go under and then back up onto 81 south there?
 
Instead of widening roads, the focus should be public transportation like a light rail system. But this country is too married to cars and "more lanes equals less traffic".

Yeah, no. Light rail is not close to feasible here. Not near enough population density to support it, and the town has no interest in changing their codes to allow such density.
Light rail people have already reached out.

You're supposed to do this: Go right off the exit from 481 down Brighton and then turn left at the traffic light just under the 81 overpass. That will lead you right to the 81S onramp.

IMO, go to the end of 481. It’s a temporary detour there to get to 81 south. Adds about 5 minutes.

Where did you enter 481? If starting farther north you can also take 690W to 81S

I got on off the thruway, 34a maybe. I just stayed on it and went around like I usually do

No clue on why there isn't signage, since it's a pretty simple detour.
