Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

I got on off the thruway, 34a maybe. I just stayed on it and went around like I usually do
Right now better off getting on 690 and getting on 81 that way

You're supposed to do this: Go right off the exit from 481 down Brighton and then turn left at the traffic light just under the 81 overpass. That will lead you right to the 81S onramp.

We come in this way to all SU games. The signage is awful. There are no signs directing people to 81 south.

We wanna geek out. Syracuse to Buffalo is on the ragged edge of these beauties

crepe myrtle...something ESF can work on to bloom to 5A

They’re beautiful but often poorly pruned throughout the south. Crepe ‘murder’ is a common term in the Richmond area because everyone hacks them back too much.

Saint Rose was growing crapemyrtles on the Madison Ave side of their campus in Albany for a few years. They just treated them as root-hardy perennials that would still get big enough to flower by the time students reported for fall. I don't know why they aren't used like that more up here!

Limeledge in Elbridge has a species of crapemyrtle that might be fully hardy in that area. Still a small plant though, so impossible to really make any judgments.

Yep. There is another term I usually hear for it that is more alliterative.

They can be grown as dieback perennials in CNY that are still magnificent. People just don't know. Same with a ton of other "southern" plants like pecans and some other tree nuts and fruits. We have a very productive group of peaches on my parents' property... it's all about siting: exposure and soils.

Going to be huge. You don't want to go there when the students get back though.

The restaurant is a hidden gem
Im sad that it's only a 70k sq ft facility, and not the usual 200k. Better than nothing I guess.

Ok. There should have been a sign directing you to take the 690W Exit 4 through downtown to 81S

Agreed...we are getting like a AAA IKEA instead of a MLB IKEA. However, if the demand is there I suppose they can expand.

So a question for the locals again.

What is the proper way to come down 481 and get to 81 south? Came home from the track sunday and this time actually looked at the signage closer.

You get to end of 481 and the signs say 481 ends follow the detour to 81.

Then you get to the end and the road splits and a big sign says for 81 north stay in left lane. So we go right lane and end up on a roundabout. No signs at all. Having been in this spot before we got around and up E. Breighton. Then I kinda remember where to go but we get to the intersection of E. Seneca turnpike.

Again no signs at all. We go about 100 yds and we think yes we were supposed to go down the turnpike and end up on 11 and then work our way south to 81. So we turn around and find our way.

How can this signage be so bad?

Are you supposed to go to the left lane to 81 north and then get off like at exit 17 go under and then back up onto 81 south there?

What did poor Myrtle ever do to you guys for you to call her such names?

Do you mean crapemyrtles?

Or true myrtles?

Sadly, you'll probably never see the latter in upstate NY. Members of the family can grow in warmer parts of maritime Long Island and NYC, but that's it for Myrtle The True and her relatives.

The larger ones only go to population centers > 2M.
