Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

Got Schumer, the NY delegation, and NYS to go all in and now the deal is shifting.

NIMBY’s pushing back, who knows what the long term legal and political risk is in NY.

Less than even money this ever happens.
With balance of power shifting in the county as well, this is a very delicate situation.

If I read correctly one is already under construction there, my assumption is they wanted assurance of another facility built in the US. I hope they share the entire new agreement would be interesting reading.
there’s no reason they’d have to commit to building 2 fabs in Idaho ahead of NY unless there was political pressure to do so.

They don't, I was answering the posters question about why Micron moved some funding from Syracuse to Boise. I don't think the Commerce dept cares one iota where they spend it.
And from a cash flow perspective certainly makes sense to move funds to an in flight project rather than one that hasn’t started yet.

It said they had to agree to build a second one in Boise but it's unclear if it Microns choice to build that before the one in Syracuse. There wasn't any confirmation they had to build those two first versus Microns choice to do so.

because it's all political. not hard to connect the dots -- Commerce has a lot of ability to push things to certain states if they so desire. It usually doesn't happen but we have no rules.
And you won't have the lawsuits holding up the project in Idaho for things like bats. Wouldn't expect more the 1 plant to be built here ever.

They are clearing ground starting next month.
If this project was a priority for national industrial policy, it would be getting done on or ahead of schedule. That it is being treated normal course and speed and then being delayed and funding shifted by choice shows it isn’t.

They are knocking down trees, good for them. They probably have a reserve ready to remediate and return if the plug is pulled.

Not sure how current these prices are, but both Solvay and Skaneateles have municipal utility companies.

Average cost of electricity in Solvay, New York

According to our data, the average electricity rate in Solvay is 5.62 cents per kWh. This equates to an average residential bill of $59.70 per month. Our data also shows the average resident in Solvay uses 1061 kWh per month.

  • Skaneateles residents pay 5.60 cents per kWh, while the average national rate is 16.22 cents
dang that is literally half of what we pay in Iowa and they are wanting to raise rates again.
