Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

The NIMBY's have the torches and pitchforks ready to squash any new development. They don't want to lose the golf course but feel sorry for the owners that have been trying to sell it for a decade now. As long as the NIMBY's get to keep their status quo everyone else can take a hike.

Why don't politicians work to bring more jobs to the area?

Well, not this area.

And not those jobs.

It's maddening. Hopefully the town board is able to see the bigger picture.

I give it four months. But I'd like to grab some pernil before this business's inevitable demise.

Every restaurant since Sparkytown in that storefront has a) had really great food and b) been run in an amateurish way. It's too bad.
I hope you're wrong, seems like the guy has a lot invested already. He's got a sugar cane press, I wonder if he's got decent cuban coffee

I hope so too. That he doesn't yet have a web presence makes me even more skeptical, though. In that location, with that cuisine, I think a huge chunk of his revenue needs to come through Grubhub. And beyond that part of the customer base, a decent number of prospective dine-in or take-out patrons won't try a place without first checking out a menu online.

damn, this is big news dropping tonight

"What's a golf course today could be a distribution center tomorrow.

Industrial development leaders decided Thursday to move ahead with the $280 million project which is expected to create a thousand jobs. It wasn't all about money most of the conversation focused on the project's environmental impact.

"You go over every little thing, I mean to the extent of like natural habitats for bats, even though there's no bats on the golf course," said Ocida Chairmen Pat Hogan.

Bats, water, sewage and noise are just a few of the factors reviewed. But the biggest concern has been the traffic.

The Principal of Trammell Crow developments George Laigaie says they've done their best to remedy complaints concerning traffic."

Me too, it was his hard work that opened to the door to Microsoft. So far he's stayed out of the fray and worked to move the city forward.
Between this, salt city market and the agreement with JPM.. hes really done a lot for a depressed southern half of downtown already

A couple blocks away from that, La Patria just reopened. Little more elevated concept, but I see they've got pernil on the menu as well.
first I've heard of it, sadly it's closed on Monday's and Tuesday's but will keep this one on the back burner

I like it! Trussle bridge! My least favorite type of bridge, but why not. I can see people driving from miles around to see it and experience it.

Listen, I can fix Syracuse in four easy steps:

One, put the Erie Canal back in - then rebrand as the Amsterdam of Upstate, add more canals later. Stop referring to Syracuse as the "Salt City" and distance yourselves from salt potatoes...nobody likes salt. The tide has turned...diabetes.
Two, light rail! Also, build a wall and keep out the suburban people that hate the environment and make us waste all that money on needless infrastructure to support their awful wasteful lifestyles.
Three, purge.
Four, do that community grid thing, and build more fountains. People like fountains.

Profit.

more idiocy on what to do with I81 on syracuse.com today.

"The third option – rebuilding the existing overpass – would be more cost-effective and less disruptive than the first two options"

Except that it costs more than the "grid" option and requires more buildings to be razed than the grid option. The writer should not worry... Congel's mall will sink or swim not based on this but on competing with Amazon and finding alternative uses for the mall space.

Way to "think outside the box."

Here are some additional ideas. If we're going to rebrand Syracuse as the "Amsterdam of Upstate," we should probably legalize prostitution and pot, too. :)

What we we rename the actual city of Amsterdam, NY?
