Yup.

That is some solid work finding that story so quickly from 2008. At the top it states the story was updated in 2019, not sure what they updated though
 
Remember when they tried to rename Syracuse the Emerald City? Yes, I think I am remembering that correctly from back in the Driscoll days. Anyone else recall that?

Wasn’t that shortly after SU considered changing the mascot to a wolf? Lol.
 
Won numerous Academy awards in 1940. This picture doesn’t reflect that yellow brick road though.

Prior to the whole COVID shutdown, I was fairly certain of the business that would be occupying this space. I'm not sure if that has changed in the meantime, but it looks like the project is moving forward from a construction standpoint:

What is happening in Cuse? Any anecdotal evidence of millennials/zennials leaving the Bos-Wash and returning to CNY?

Are luxury apartments still hot downtown?

Couldn't tell you that, but I do know 2 twenty somethings on my team that recently moved downtown.

I also know at least a couple people that are very excited for the opening of the renovated NYNEX building, which will have 200 units in it. That will be a good test of the strength of the market when that many units come online at once.

The housing market in CNY is ridiculous right now. I will not be surprised if people decide to rent.

I really think it's too soon to tell about the apartment market. The biggest demographic change I've noticed is that a much higher number of undergraduates remained in Syracuse, some downtown, some on/around Euclid. In many cases I think their internships got wiped out or their hometowns are perceived as less safe in terms of the pandemic, but those are also a nice pretext for a summer vacation in Syracuse on mom and dad's dime. I'm not sure their efforts toward boosting our sales tax revenues have offset the noise/litter they produce in the neighborhoods.

I've got some anecdotal evidence of people returning, but not permanently.

The housing market in the area is crazy hot right now, it's surprising.

Commercial lending, I'm not so sure. I've heard of some projects finding difficulty getting financing. It's a shame, because there was some really interesting stuff in the pipeline.

Yeah it's wild out here in Buffalo too. We've put two offers on homes in the past couple of weeks and got neither. One had 20 other offers and the other had 14 other offers. Both homes went for 15% over asking price. It's insane. We are starting to discuss renting for another year and hope it cools off. Those interest rates are definitely enticing but I'm not willing to way overpay for a house, as it essentially negates the low interest rate.
 
Have a family friend in a "meh" neighborhood in the city of Syracuse. Listed her house in April, got 7 offers the same day and took the one that was $12,000 over asking. Again, your standard smaller pre-war house in what most people would not consider a terribly desirable neighborhood.

We sold our 3 bedroom/1 bath house at the end of May and we had 6 offers in 10 hours. The winning bidder waived home the home inspection as he had already been outbid 5 times. We made 50% on the house in 3.5 years, couldn't find anything ourselves, and just last week decided to build in the woods outside of the city as I am just sick of people.

A house around the corner from me went on the market last Thursday, had dozens of cars lined up on Friday with a sale pending by Monday. It's insane and this house built in the 50's is on the corner of a really busy street.

I just can’t imagine a 3/1, that’s one thing I’m glad about in the south, 2 baths everywhere
