Have a family friend in a "meh" neighborhood in the city of Syracuse. Listed her house in April, got 7 offers the same day and took the one that was $12,000 over asking. Again, your standard smaller pre-war house in what most people would not consider a terribly desirable neighborhood.

We sold our 3 bedroom/1 bath house at the end of May and we had 6 offers in 10 hours. The winning bidder waived home the home inspection as he had already been outbid 5 times. We made 50% on the house in 3.5 years, couldn't find anything ourselves, and just last week decided to build in the woods outside of the city as I am just sick of people.

The housing market in CNY is ridiculous right now. I will not be surprised if people decide to rent.

A house around the corner from me went on the market last Thursday, had dozens of cars lined up on Friday with a sale pending by Monday. It's insane and this house built in the 50's is on the corner of a really busy street.

It’s pretty common up here in older houses built before 1960. The good news is my next house will have 2.5.

I saw it with older houses in the south too when I was house hunting. Overall there are probably fewer because their first big housing boom was in the '60's and '70's when more than one bathroom was becoming more common.

Yeah, our last house was a one-bath 1947 Cape. Undesirable for so many reasons. Most things about the house were nice, good craftsmanship, etc. A single toilet...ridiculous.

My brother didn't move back to CNY but did move from Queens to Westchester last August. He got out just in time.

Of course some of the usual suspects in favor of keeping the Columbus statue in the city. I would love to see in my lifetime some of old way of governing Syracuse be retired, like most all of these folks. They contribute nothing to forward advancement, it's the same old, same old with this crew. And I have no doubt a lot of money greasing their palms.

Pirro couldn't manage the finances of the SPCA FFS and yet here he is campaigning to keep this statue.

The whole article is embarrassing, I'm tempted to write a letter to the editor about it. FFS, why not build an Italian American history museum and move the statue there, or maybe put it in Pirro's front lawn. I have German heritage yet I'm not crying the blues about not having a Hitler statue. Sounds extreme right? Pretty much the same damn thing except Columbus didn't kill white people.

As a navigator myself who knows how to use a sextant what they did wasn't easy.

Easy to judge something in 2020 that happened in the late 1400s.

Columbus slaughtered people when he invaded their countries. I'm sorry you can't relate to 1492 but there is no denying he murdered a mass amount of people for his own gain. We don't need statues for that, it's unfortunate you don't feel that way.

The sextant along with Columbus can be put in a museum for the historical significance. The alters in the middle of cities have to go.

Statues of anything are awesome - they're like gazebos - just fun community decor! Take down the plaques!!!

People rarely have any idea what they are anyway - I would guess you could walk people into Columbus Square, ask who the status might be of, and prior to the last year, 50% wouldn't be able to guess.

I usually just say "oooooooooh, horsie!" and move on. Might be Columbus, might be John Wick.

Oh I agree...this is one of maybe two threads I follow in the OT Forum. The rest are too tribal and no one is changing anyone's opinion.

I wish this thread could stay relatively non-political but I got sucked in. I made my point and will back out.
