Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

This is really cool:

Glad to see stabilization work has begun on the old Moyer Carriage building. Don't think there was too much time left before that entire wall was going to crumble to the ground.

I meant to send you a shot of this the other day, I know you've been curious.

Great to see the building stabilized. There was no sand left in the hourglass for this one.

Yeah I know they announced renovation plans but I was wondering when that wall was going to be secured, because it definitely seemed like time was running out on that.

I really hope Mannion is able to beat her with the absentee ballots

"On Thursday, they began counting ballots for Senate District 50 between Republican Angi Renna and Democrat John Mannion.

Dustin Czarny, the Onondaga County BOE Democratic Commissioner, says, “To put in context, we have already surpassed all of the objections that we had in Senate District 53, which is 20,000 ballots, in the first two hours Thursday.”

There are significantly more objections for the ballots in Senate District 50.

Czarny says a large majority of the objections are from Renna’s campaign.

“These objections do not mean that the vote doesn’t count,” said Czarny. “It means that we have to hold aside the vote until the end of the counting and they have three days to go in front of a judge.”

Most of the objections are about the signatures on the ballots and the votes that were received in the ballot boxes on election day.

“If we are talking about thousands of ballots over the next four days then it’s going to delay the certification of this race,” said Czarny. “This is not just about Senate District 50 it’s about the family court race, the presidential race, congressional races, all of these races are on these ballots.”

And Joanie Mahoney has resurfaced ...

Anybody know what the story is with this? I mean, it was obvious that her strange move to step down from the county and become ESF's COO was part of a strategy, but college president? What does she know about academia? Is she as unqualified for this job as some of her appointments were for the county?

Folks I knew at ASU had told me that Quentin Wheeler was going to be a disaster; this seems like a curious replacement after that dumpster fire, to say the least. I get the feeling she's trying to lay low on the political scene while still staying in the game.

She should have flipped parties and run against Catko.

I think there are far better sites for an operation like that.
Definitely, I just like the idea of Republican McMahon trying to sell that idea to his supporters and party. Also hoping the state moves forward on legislation in the near future.

On the surface the deal is hilarious. The county is owed 10 mil in back taxes, but will pay moonbeam 3.5 mil. The county will then do the work to sell it and share the proceeds with moonbeam.

Seems like quite a risk to be taking at a time with potential decreases in available funds for the county and town. The county getting a say in the selected awardee could work out, but honestly given the other development in the area what do they expect to happen with this property.
