Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

What's the solution? Single lanes aren't going to cut it there. Remove the median?

Definitely. Where in Syracuse has anyone ever seen a median that isn't an overgrown mess? Crazy that that'd even be on the table for maintenance reasons alone.

10' lanes.

Tighten up the corners.

10' wide one-way cycle tracks? Never heard of such a thing. Lose one.

Don't seize land on the east side of Almond. ROW should be tight up against the existing properties.

That'd save over 50 feet.

You're right. NYSDOT's traffic engineers came up with a traffic engineer solution. There's time to refine it, but I agree: if they build what's in those plans, it won't improve the ped experience and the promised development won't happen.

Come on its Syracuse, you knew the promised development was as likely to happen as SU getting the names of retired players jerseys spelled correctly at halftime ceremonies.

The best part of all this is going to be a year or two from when its all finally built (probably 15+ years away at this point) and 75% of the people start bitching that they liked the previous raised highway better and want to go back to that. Kudos to the govt for trying but they would have been better off just replacing what we have now, this will inevitable end in disaster.

Nah. People will be asking how the hell the dopes built the raised one in the first place. Sure, some flunky spelled Bouie incorrectly but they put a new roof on the dome without altering a single basketball/football game on budget.

SU did a really good job with the Roof but there's a bit of difference between a private institution replacing a roof over the course of 2-3 years and the NYS govt taking on something of this magnitude that effects about 10,000 times the amount of people the dome construction did. Its comparing oranges to craft beers. I also had a friend who worked on the Roof and overall construction, he noted that COVID was actually a big help in getting the project completed on time and under budget.

LOL...of course there is a big difference... but you compared it to someone getting a name on a shirt wrong! That's a great comparison.

In any case, there were many who said the dome could not be done on time. They knew it. They whined about it. They were way off.

Yeah, I loved those folks pre-complaining about something - THAT NEVER HAPPENED.

I compared the "developmental" promises to the jersey error, small but significant difference.

That said I am still not sure what SU getting the roof done has to do with a massive traffic and construction project run by NYS. I am glad your happy SU got the dome built on time but it has absolutely nothing to with this project or that NYS will somehow be able to to the same, there is no correlation.

the only reason the dome was on time is because covid helped it. otherwise, woulda been just like i said...late.

Ya god forbid I pass on information from someone who was you know actually there but by all means tell me how Pete Sala will ensure the roundabout and community grid will be done right.

"promised development was as likely to happen as SU getting the names of retired players jerseys spelled correctly"

I am comparing the whiners who prematurely complained like you.

The dome will be a big beneficiary of the new traffic alleviation. The current raised highway sucks.

Maybe we will get another pandemic and things will be constructed fast just like how it worked for the dome. we can only hope.

Your having a weird response even by this boards standards to the COVID nugget.

it was no "nugget". the overall impact of covid to the project was negative. so what, you knew a roofer who said something.

Let me try explaining this yet again, Ottomets noted that he felt the promises of development were unlikely, I noted a joke agreeing and compared it with one of SU's noted screw ups because this is you know an SU fan board.

LOL, yes because you would know what the Covid impact was. Also my friend was not a roofer but hey good guess.

...and you said some guy told you covid was the reason the dome roof was on time and under budget. I guess you were one of the naysayers originally?

I said COVID helped, I didn't say it was the only reason it was under budget and on time relative to the updated schedule. You made that leap.

why bring it up then?
all the whining just gets old. not looking forward to 5 -10 years of this again.

Because he felt without it they wouldn't have finished when they did which is what I said to begin with. I am sure the threads on the community grid will be few and far between if needed simply ignore the post(s) you don't like.

so he said would not have been done on time except for covid. why do you keep arguing against that (except it sounds really dumb given all the negative factors related to Covid)?

I don't think I'm arguing against it, I said I agreed it probably played a role.

I also know somebody that worked on the dome roof. He loves to tell people that if his aunt had [something], she'd be his uncle. He prefers PBR and would never compare oranges to craft beer, but he does switch to sipping whiskey during whitetail season.
