Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

New bar opening in Armory next door to Kasai. It used to be a clothing boutique, I believe.

I read that Weitsman wants to tear down another house in Skaneateles. Those older houses are part of the charm of Skaneateles. I'm not liking it.

So this is a former sommelier from...Eden? Saint Urbain? I forget, was a few drinks in when someone told me about this person opening up his own place. But it sounded like a solid concept. Totally forgot about it until you posted it.

More Armory Square news:

Ghastly, unusually uninspired concept by in. (Though it's transparently off-the-shelf.)

Wish I could place bets on the City staffer who's pushing that "highest and best use" language on the development team.

Not sure Fiorito's got the capacity to pull off something of this scale, though the programming at least would represent a huge improvement for the site. And the existing garage is a disaster.

Yeah inArchitects usually has some creative stuff. I'm assuming this is just a boiler plate design to get some interest from developers that the space is available for redevelopment. JF is just the real estate broker, right?

Wonder if this was the point of the article on Syracuse.com yesterday stating Syracuse has plenty of parking spaces downtown to announce we’re losing a large parking garage? Subtle - hmm.

I basically never park in a garage downtown and also almost never park more than 2-3 blocks from where I need to go. There's is definitely no lack of available parking downtown, even with the loss of this garage.

They own a few properties, including this one. But to the best of my knowledge their development background doesn't include anything this ambitious.

We usually parked at the Atrium garage I think-to go to Kitty Hoynes, SS office and lawyer‘s office, all which were very close to it. Not the same one?

You’re brave. I wouldn’t be surprised if that place fell down one day.

No the Atrium garage is separate from this one. This is the garage next door to Modern Malt right where the alleyway to Sky Armory is.

It's about GD time, but it's only temporary

"Salina, N.Y. — New York officials plan to temporarily reduce traffic on Onondaga Lake Parkway from two to one lane in each direction as part of new efforts to stop trucks from striking the low railroad bridge over the busy roadway that connects Syracuse with Liverpool.

The move is one of several changes from the state Department of Transportation that could affect thousands of commuters and drivers who use the parkway and a ramp off of Interstate 81 -- all in an effort to stop truck drivers from hitting the bridge every few weeks."

They should close it completely to traffic and extend the park.

Way too many commuters heading south, East from Liverpool and into Liverpool from the city for Old Liverpool Rd alone to handle.

Yeah but I’m sick of every infrastructure decision being made as to not inconvenience those living in the suburbs. A true “parkway” is not meant to be a 4-lane 55 mph racing strip. The parkway has destroyed the village of Liverpool, turning it into nothing more than a convenient pass-through for thousands of cars every day. I maintain that if people want the benefits of easy access to the city, then they should live closer. Otherwise, you should just have to deal with the inconveniences of sprawl.

I get the concern from folks that live north of Liverpool. That said, the parkway shouldn't be a speedway to 81 when there is an alternate route. I would think the businesses on Old Liverpool Rd would like the increased traffic. I agree with shandeezy, we shouldn't plan infrastructure based on how quickly someone from Clay can get into the city or bypass it.

Had a feeling something was going on, their inventory has been dwindling over the past couple of months. This is too bad, they had unique stuff you can't find anywhere else except Amazon.

"The Northern Lights store, which sells discount home goods and seasonal decorative items, will close sometime in August, a store official said. It opened in 2004.

...The problems were linked to declining sales, the report said.

That changed after the Massachusetts-based chain defaulted on a loan funding its bankruptcy, the report said. That has prompted the chain to close all its store unless a buyer is found in the next week, according to the report."

Some great news here, I got to get over to her place and check it out

"Syracuse, N.Y. — Thanks to Sarah Simiele and her over-the-top wisdom of cheese, Central New York will now have access to some of the hardest-to-get curds.

Simiele owns the Curd Nerd, a quaint fromagerie at the corner of James Street and Collingwood Avenue in Syracuse’s Eastwood section. Last week she won the annual Cheesemonger Invitational in Brooklyn, pretty much the largest who’s who of the cheese industry. She competed against 37 other cheese purveyors from throughout the country before edging out a Colorado shop owner in a rind-biting tiebreaker to claim the gold-colored trophy with a cow on top."
