Devito

The GS roll out throw across his body and fall on his ass ugly duck to Taj told me all I need to know about him vs TD. That's a throw TD would never even attempt but GS atleast took the chance to try and make something happen, because that's what gamers do. Let it all hang out there and go for it
Cue the inevitable rage posts when GS throws a pick and someone asks why not throw out of bounds

Unfortunately Dino seems to have a one track mind. He made Tommy his QB, when he was recruited, and will live and die with him.
I don’t believe that. He needs to win. Playing TD doesn’t mean he is loyalty to him. It means no one else is better at this point. As much as I want to see change we can’t pretend like Shrader came in and lit it up. Some things were exposed and showed why he wasn’t able to totally steal the position from TD. I think GS will be better in time. He needs to play most of the Albany game.

But you have to admnit he has far more upside . Go back and watch the game the decision making and pocket presence (scrambling and decision making under pressure are there) he just needs to put it together . I think he hits those throws at the end of the 2nd quarter if he’s been already game tested against Ohio

No he didn't.

Davido never had "it," whatever "it" is. In shorts, he looks unbelievable, which is why he excelled at that elite 11 competition. He's got tremendous arm talent, and throws a beautiful deep ball.

But as soon as the past rush becomes live, he locks up

Really, he's like the polar opposite of Dungey.
Well, I think we can all see how much of last year was truly due to the exceptional circumstances, and how much was not. Some things I hoped beyond hope would finally clear up, have not.

If Devito starts next week, I’m not going to waste my time this year. We’ll see what comes next.

can someone - anyone - please confirm whether or not we have a real printed playbook that players can take with them to study?

Dino doesn't NEED to do anything. He gets paid millions to coach the way he wants; or, he gets paid millions to move back out west a few years early.

The problem with this is it assumes Dino is as smart as he is always telling us. 3D chess and all (which is one of the most asinine comments to make anyway). “Dino is coaching for his job, he’s going to play who gives us the best chance to win.”

Between the late punt, switching punters, the unsportsmanlike conduct and everything else, maybe people can start to understand that maybe he’s just as dumb as all the other meathead coaches that never want to admit they’re wrong.

Thats not in question. We can see the upside. We know TD’s flaws. He’s not getting better. It doesn’t mean Shrader is better but I’m willing to watch Shrader develop even if we are losing. He’s a soph. We have him for more years.

But he made one play that Tommy will never make. Being chased by defenders, but keeping the play alive and completing the pass up field. Reminds me of the play Dungey made in front of me running around, and Estime came back, Dungey shoveled the ball to him 80+ yards a touchdown.
He has a feel for the game which Tommy doesn't, and after 5 years never will.

Ehhhh the radio interview I heard was a guy that was incredibly frustrated , humbled and embarrassed he just didn’t want to say it out loud . I do think he gets it, the question is will he actually act on it .

Agreed but people are judging schrader off such a knee jerk small sample size . It’s not fair to him . I was at the game , I was mad and felt like I had him wrong after the first drive . At the end of the second quarter I realized it was me with the wrong expectations for the kid that was in the wrong. He needs to get play in games , every series he played for better and better. After I took my emotions out of it and settled down I realized the kid was thrown in a tough position and showed me that the potential is most definitely there.

most of the time there was adequate protection considering rutgers was playing everybody within 10 yards of line telling us to beat them over the top, but we only did 1 time. Not to beat a dead horse but qb play along with receivers were the reason we lost. Dont get me started on the officiating either
You left out Dino's coaching ability and Gilberts play calling

I’m not sure this is the case. He might be giving TD every opportunity so when he fully seat belts him he can say he gave him a chance. Let’s see how next week plays out.

Fair enough. It will certainly be "must see TV" for Albany and Liberty. We'll know about the whole season in a couple weeks. If we don't win both of these convincingly, scoring 30+ points, then we might only win another game or two the rest of the season against ACC teams.

It’s both. The scheme is incomprehensible and DeVito apparently is only competent in shorts.

It helps when the defense plays touch.

What I come back to is I can’t blame the players when our coaches are not putting them in an advantageous position to begin with. Tommy and Garrett are clearly expected to facilitate Dino’s O with a level of ad-lib. We could pay someone 2/3 what we pay Dino for twice the competence in game planning

That’s fair. Personally I have never thought DeVito lived up to any of the “arm talent” fawning that people lavish on him. Sometimes he makes a good throw. He also sometimes shows terrible touch, and he misses too many deep balls for a guy with such “arm talent”. Aside from that, he has zero feel for the game.

Tommy has no feel for pressure - where it's coming from and how to get to space to make a play. It's really odd because at times he has demonstrated he has the agility to make it happen. Can we get a QB with Devito's fundamentals and Dungey's athleticism?

whoever was calling the plays seemed to like beating there head against the wall trying to run into a stacked box but seems like an indictment of devito that he cant be trusted ever since the clemson game in 2019 where he threw 2 bad interceptions in redzone
