My son is an Eagle Scout. Those Boy Scout trips are planned way in advance and are a big deal as they generally involve making progress towards advancement.

I don’t blame him for prioritizing his kids. But he also didn’t love playing basketball either. It was a means to an end. He also hates the attention. I’m sure it was a mixture of both things. Craigs a great person though so he never will get any flak from me.
