Diehards Giving Up

So Melo is providing influence? Cash? Connections?
I mean I know he's earned a ton of cash but how deep are his pockets?
170 Mil for Melo
30 Mil for LaLa
40 Mil for Kiyan

LaLa is hanging around with Kim Kardashian in NYC, we know about Melo's influence, and Kiyan has been getting NIL all this time in HS (he's got the 2nd highest NIL for HS), has a million instagram followers and his own clothing brand.

Who knows the impact but their family is as connected as it gets.

Just because the family has money and knows people with money doesn't mean they are blindly going to give it to a failing program.

Like I said the best thing the Anthony's could do is pay for a real coach to come in and coach the program. Not trying to buy a player in the portal but bringing in a coach would have the biggest impact on their son and program long term.

The poster asked. And yea who’s to say what they spend the money on whether coaching or the portal or more buildings.

It’s not often an 18 year old freshman coming in is worth that amount of money. It’s crazy times.

Agreed.

I think the thought process is predicated upon the assumption that Anthony would be motivated to surround his kids with the best talent, so that the team performs better.

That seems independent on the poor state of affairs that have become too impossible to ignore this season.

Anyone concerned with attendance yesterday of only 15,987? Even without students on campus that seems low.

Somewhat.

But this was the concern about the team's lackluster performance, and how it would impact revenue. Fans vote with their wallets, and this fan base has been put through an extended period of subpar basketball. Can't blame the fans for pocket vetoing the lousy product on the court.

And if the team continues to be this poor, I can't imagine what things will be like next year if Red returns and there's massive roster turnover. Could get really come a really ugly.

I actually thought it was a decent crowd considering all the factors involved. The crowd was engaged and 90%+ of college programs would love 16,000 during a holiday week break.

I think one of the few potential positives we have for next year is that most of the roster will turnover. I want to see 8-9 new faces on this team next year because there's far too many guys wearing Orange this year that shouldn't. If their name doesn't have a FR next to it on the roster I'm pretty much ready to say good bye already and won't really even think twice about it.

Obvi everyone cruising this thread is ready for the coaching staff to turn over so no need to rehash that.

Not a lot of big games yesterday but we had the largest crowd. Even more than 2 ranked teams, UCLA vs Gonzaga. Game was played in the Intuit Dome where the Clippers play. Holds 18,000 and two top 25 teams only drew 12,200.

Lot of school break kids and families filled in the crowd. Turned out to be more than I expected to see.

Wait till he brings Snoop in...

Syracuse Snoop Doggs.

You heard it hear first.
What is up with this Snoop Dog thing? I found him to be a waste of time at the Olympics, and now he seems to be everywhere. Do people actually like him that much?

This is exactly what I'm not understanding. Did Melo/Lala SAY they're giving Red millions to stack a team? Just because someone is rich doesn't mean others are entitled to their money. So did they SAY they would, or was it hopeful thinking on this board that took on a life of its own? If not a specific promise, it's pointless to use that argument in defense of more years for Red regardless of how he performs the rest of the way.

I would watch every game, including exhibitions, on the big family room tv and stand the whole time pacing around. My coping mechanism lately is I watch the games on my phone and try to multi task around the house in order to try to distract myself a little bit and save me from stewing about it.

It really is just this simple, and a lot more likely than Melo allowing his son to play for a poor coach on an awful team. Melo knows as well as anybody that this is a business.

I am similar. I've been reading stuff on the internet with an eye on the game.

Saw a tweet for the first brakcetology just now and it made my stomach turn a little. Also am totally clueless what's going on in the rest of the CBB world simply don't care and am just angry things have come to this.
I barely follow college basketball anymore. It's not on my radar. I don't even care about the tournament that much.

I am not in the know but some ITK on here have made veiled insinuations that may be the case... and/or possibly facilities investments along with NIL.

That said, I would assume people are holding their information close their vests at this point because things can and do change.

The season underway is trending historically bad at the moment and future plans of Team Melo and Red at the helm could very well be in flux for next year if the current ship taking on water goes down.

Just a guess.

I may very well be wrong about that, so grain of salt.

Watching the "family" videos when Kiyan committed to SU, Melo spoke passionately about resurrecting the program-
Melo's intended level of investment of himself and his $ is debatable, but my takeaway: could be substantial.
ie: should be considered. Anyone else read it that way?

+1, for a while now.
I just settle in with a good book with the game on.
Basically the game is background noise that I check out time to time when it dials up.
Zen.

I just realized what shows that I'm a diehard SU Fan. I pay to subscribe to Syracuse.com online. If I wasn't I wouldn't. I've believed for awhile that Syracuse.com and the Post-Standard still exist because of Syracuse University Athletics and its diehard fans. But I'm done watching SU MBB games this season. I stopped after the Georgetown game.

Nothing against you personally, I get it. It's frustrating. But it's almost like these people saying they are going to move to Canada after the election. Yet, people still come on here to comment after not supposedly watching games or not moving to Canada.

I must be cut from a different cloth. I still watch/attend all the games. Still watch every down of every NY Football Giants game and still subscribe to NBA League Pass to watch all the Jazz games.

Maybe I'm too fanatical. But, thanks to medicine, my blood pressure is under control, so at least I got that going for me. Let's hope for a great 2025.

Very glad your blood pressure is under control. As is mine with medication also. I've been an SU fan for at least 68 years growing up in Syracuse. The first thing I remember is Jim Brown playing in the '56-'57 Cotton Bowl and I think we lost because he missed an extra point. I remember Ernie Davis and the great '59 National Championship team. And of course the "Infamous" 1961 Notre Dame game, which I still haven't gotten over. [I hate them for what they said and did after the game.] I even have a scrapbook about it with all the articles from the old Herald-Journal -- somewhere. And I even remember SU basketball team's record setting losing streak I think in the early 60s. But this year's team just isn't interesting to me to watch. That's why I stopped. So maybe it's just that my "cloth" is older and my interest is watching an uninteresting team is waning.

I come here to talk because I love the community and the banter and the commiseration. And I have a pretty cushy job where I get to putz around on the internet all day in between work.
