Dino and the media

I know the Su fan base is a bit dumb. We have a bad defense if you only look at 6 quarters. Who knew they would implode? if the BC Rb does not run for 200 and 3 tds we will be fine.. He may do that in 1 quarter the way we are playing now..

Who knew FSU would implode when they lost their QB? It happens.. WV had it happen sat to when they lost their QB. FL had it happen this year.. and if Alabama lost Hurts they would implode as well.
I'm so tired of the hidden little digs, yes I r dum bekuze I think we have bad D, but it's not just 6 quarters. How do we rank in PPG given up? YPP? YPG? They don't just pick the last 6 quarters when posting those stats. Our D is bad, whether you think I r dum r not.

hey I am the one that thinks we are way to slow.. But if people cant see that they are even slower the last 2-3 weeks then thats not watching the game.. We had bad moments all year,. we also shut down multiple top 25 teams for large stretches. Coaching up avg talent can only fight half the battle. Once we got hurt we were going to take our lumps.

I wonder if this quote also has to do with all of the Dino leaving mumbo jumbo that the local media stirred up after the Clemson win, instead of focusing on the remainder of the season. You never know how much a kid reads into those articles and loses a little faith, especially if they think their coaches are bolting at the end of the year.

I'm not a fan of Waters jumping in there based on nothing more than another media member's guess in parentheses from a tweet.

The coach he covers should keep him more than busy.

1.) Why pick a fight with the local media? In a small market like Syracuse, it shouldn't be that hard to keep the media on your side. Be friendly, throw them a few bones every once in a while and don't admonish them for hyping your team/program.

2.) Mike Waters makes an excellent point. No one was hyping this team more than Dino. No one. He made all the national media rounds after the Clemson game. He was the one saying that no team left on our schedule wanted to play us. He was the one making proclamations about year 2, game 4 is when the system starts to click. I don't bemoan him doing any of this, but don't try to deflect blame after the fact when things don't quite work out how you may have envisioned them.

3.) How can the community (or media) learn how to handle success when there has barely been any? We've had a big win in each of the first two seasons under Dino. After those wins, the team is a combined 1-8 (poised to be 1-9 after this weekend). Success is not winning one game a year where you are a big underdog. He's said it himself: “I want them to be consistently good, not occasionally great." If that's the definition of a successful program, then we certainly aren't there yet, so there is no way to judge how we will or won't be able to handle success.

Probably making a mountain out of a mole hill here, but something about the comment irked me. It's just a dumb comment to make and has zero basis in reality.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I think Dino is absolutely the guy for the job, and this doesn't change those feelings. But a little self-awareness goes a long way, and if you're looking to build a program from the bottom up, shifting some of the blame off yourself, your staff and your players and onto the media and fans' expectations isn't the right route to take.

He had a signature win and hoped for 7 so he can move on to bigger things. And yes he got his face all over espn.

Dino was talking about the community, NOT the media.

That's even worse. When you have been outscored 100-12 in the last 6 quarters or whatever it is, its probably not the best time to take a shot at whats left of a shattered fan base. I like Babers a lot but he needs to look in the mirror on this one.

This is an interesting take...

My fear with the local press is they make it difficult to produce a winner in this town. Syracuse in general feeds off negative news and the local media feeds into that.

I know people hate Boeheims pressers, but he’s always known when directly go after certain reporters.

This entire thread is a microcosm of our society right now... Everybody take a tissue... Jesus Christ, could anything matter less?

It doesnt really matter to me. But that doesnt mean i wont comment on something i found to be absurd, almost churlish.

All he really had to say were the last few sentences (which were great, right on, and inspiring). Or something like, "I know everyone got really excited when we beat Clemson. I did too. It was a great win and is emblematic of where this program can ultimately go. But we arent there yet. When healthy, we have the the ability to give some very good teams, a really tough game. But we arent at there level yet. But we are working everyday to get there. We practice in a completely unique way. We recruit in a way that i know will bear fruit. The University is invested in this program. And we will get there. Be patient. Have faith."

Matter less than the coach telling the fanbase to grow up after a big win? Idk, it's not a good look, not as bad as get a life, but yeah...it's not good coming off one of his teams worst performances ever. Maybe his coaching staff is what needs to mature and not talk about people being afraid to play us before getting his butt kicked.

Our fans and the media are going to do their best to run him off.

imagine if he coached where there are real crazies like the SEC or Big 10. This program is treating him just fine Rick. There are no issues with the fans or media. The issues will be when the coaches create this narrative to support their unhappiness about something else.

this fan base can only take so much. There was a thought a month ago we had turned the corner and were firmly going to a bowl. Fans are on edge about investing in this team with consecutive 4-8s.

I'm with this staff 100% but less talk more walk will b needed in 2018.

Completely understood, the topic itself elicits a response, I get it.

The local media isn't always helpful but what big time Div 1 team has a media group that is 100% helpful? Saban is constantly pissed at the local press and there's 10,000 other examples. This instance is all on Dino. If you think the question is bad then let the media know about it, why say the "community" has to handle winning better. The community isn't calling plays, making personnel decisions, and making injury decisions. Until the community is making those decisions they don't have to handle jack squat. This isn't Eastern Washington or Bowling Green, if Dino is having an issue with how the "community" is upset with season spiraling for the second year what the heck is he doing to do at Florida, Tennesee. Texas A&M, or UCLA if he loses games like this to in conference teams? Those fanbases are giving out death threats for Christ sake.

Also I have lived with the JB and John Desko/Simmons Era for 30 + years, trust me I know all about winning and handling it, what we have now sure as hell isn't that.

Carlson, Axe, and Infanti had him coaching at Tennessee before Dungey took his final knee during the Clemson win. That’s constructive here?

What facts did we have to support that he was going to leave? That was manufactured by our local press despite evidence to the contrary. This town is miserable and can’t have nice things. Syracuse.com included.

If he were to leave, the leading candidate to replace him is McDermott.

eh, none of it's life or death. I like that he'll say people are afraid to play them... It's entertaining. It's football, sometimes you get whooped up on... Now, when people are losing their stuff at a tough end to the season he says pump the breaks and people flip out... I just don't sweat the small stuff like that.

It's funny though because Shafer shared similar comments that you are sharing now about ISIS and the entire fanbase turned on him.
