Dino's Presser

I was just happy that Jacobian‘s three yard stick routes hit guys in the chest. Rex’s were in the dirt
We all were happy to see that. It’s just too small of a sample size to make a determination of how good he will be. Rex is not good. A 5 year old can see that but to say he can’t throw 3 yard stick routes will be unfair to say. We all fall in love with the next guy because it gives us hope.

There isnt any reason to not play JM. He doesn't need to start but he does need to play. Every player on the team including Rex knows this.

Don’t see what the benefit is to play Culpepper the rest of the way except for a “feel good, stay loyal to your upperclassman” scenario.

we need to see what we have in the wings to eventually compete down the road with Lamson

Crusty I hear you but this happens everywhere and all the time. Boeheim does it weekly. It's coach speak publicly. My guess would be off camera the coaches and assistants are providing the support, mentoring, everything that you allude to.
Bohiem has done it to almost every player he has coached except for Buddy.

Nothing he says bothers me much, however the on field performance and coaching has been inadequate. Yes I know all the excuses, but this is year 5 and last year and this year have both been non competitive. Year five and he has disfunctional line play, on defense tackling fundamentals are non existant, play calling often times makes no rational sense. This is definitely not what he himself said the team would be like. I know he will be back at least next year, but I for one am very disappointed in his performance.

I did not watch the game on TV, but it seems that the low snaps are a problem that Carlos had last year.

Is there someone who saw the game on TV who can conform if this becoming a regular problem like last year?

Also the amount of stupid penalties that happen every game.

We were 5-7 last year. Certainly not good, but “uncompetitive”? We were a win away from a bowl.

‘what? Jordan is still hyped here as a cross between Reggie Bush and Warrick Dunn, it’s just that Dino isn’t utilizing him properly. People need to get a grip and realize just what we are up against here.
Yes he has been hyped here, but Dino used him incorrectly for his current size and strength, he should not been playing at running back going into the heart of the opponents defence, his talents would have been better used in space.

Given that Dino has already turned Erv Phillips from a mediocre RB to a record breaking slot WR...I’ll trust him on this one.

You are right I was perhaps too harsh in saying that about last years record, but I found most of that season to be non competitive from a performance stand point, you may have a different view but that is mine. We went downhill in that season and now are even worse. I am less concerned with wins and losses than actual performance of fundamentals of football. Wins generally come with performing well at the fundamentals.

You are correct and that is exactly my point about Jordan. He should not have been used as the primary RB, he is simply currently to small and not strong enough for that role.

Thats fair. I hear ya. I think most are disappointed in the last two years. Though it’s possible our expectations were a bit high following ED. Dunno. To me everything starts and ends with the oline and dline. If you have weakness in the areas, then the ripple effect out hits everything.

We were absolutely uncompetitive in the losses. Pitt and NC State were "close" games but we looked pretty bad in those games. Tommy put up good numbers against NC State. All the other losses were 2-4 touchdowns. That being said... I would take last years anemic offense over this years anemic offense.

His comments has zero to do with the amount of plays or the design of them.
i’m not referring to anything he said in his presser, just something i find frustrating, didn’t want to start a whole new thread about it.

I didnt listen to his presser. Just read the quotes posted in here. Im talking about all the past comments about his offense. Im very frustrated too but the complexity of the offense has nothing to do with play design or the amount in his playbook. My issue with Dino is the execution of the scheme and the depth of the O line and QB positions.

Absolutely, there’s reads and progressions he has to make, things he has to pick up on pre snap, but as i was trying to get to in my original post, why not let him go out there and see those things in a live game setting? there’s nothing that can replicate live game snaps and i do not see an upside in trotting out a senior who (obviously) isn’t the answer here long term, in the middle of a lost season aswell.

I don’t think that’s true - he just can’t execute. His reads are mostly right - just throws short or long or off

The only stuff Rex can execute are the 3 yard stick routes so who cares how much playbook he knows. Anytime they try to expand beyond that it's trouble. Rex is 44-93 - 5 tds and 6 ints. 471 yards.

I want to believe HCDB is just downplaying things with JM, much the same as Boeheim would do, but sometimes I think they overthink this stuff. The 'whole playbook'...you can dink and dunk your way down the field with short passes and runs and be successful. At this point Morgan should get some run early in games.

I agree he should be getting real situational reps now. Not just mop up. I dont know their reason but there are reasons. We saw a small sample size. As much as I want to see Jacobian out there we also have to realize that it can be a disaster if you start him. I think he should gradually get more reps and series. He is gonna get so much thrown at him from real ACC defenses. Remember the staff has already thrown different things at him in practice and knows how he reacts. I just think Its way too much to put on a kid that just started learning the offense 3 weeks ago. Starting him and getting off to a bad start can set a bad tone. Then all phases start to play sloppy.

Good points. I'm not close to being solid on who should start - just trying to understand why we might see Rex again. I do wonder if we hamstring the growth by everyone else if we simplify too much.

We'll see.
