Ha, then make sure you supplement your sophomore and junior classes adequately! Oh that's right, that might have meant guys who could take mins from buddy and joe etc and we didn't want that.
Buddy has an NBA contract as does Swider. Buddy was also All American. JG at point was a mistake.

There’s nobody else! My kid has to play all the minutes

I’m not sure what your argument is. So that fantasy story that JB was bringing in Jimmy to play 40 minutes over the guys who were there the year before is fantasy. We know that’s fantasy.

Is it Guerrier? The guy played 33mpg and was looking at a large role if he returned. He didn’t. What was there to be done about that? He wasn’t run off.

Does anyone disagree with his thoughts on the state of college basketball?
me

paying players through NIL deals is not good for this sport. its just facts.
Not sure NIL and the portal really leveled the playing field.
it levelled it in a way. not making it equal opportunity for all...but good teams cant stockpile players and cant really build from year to year...so now...its basically a 1 year cycle for all teams...

but the smaller schools are still at a disadvantage...because anyone good they have can leave much easier.

"name schools" still have the upper hand...

There is one very clear thing missing from this thread at this point...

Why do most of the traditional powers stink then?

Kansas is the only traditional blue blood currently ranked.
a lot of them lost coaches...and now its a 1 year cycle...

but a lot them still had their choice of which players they wanted. they just arent that smart and the "good players" arent good enough to win immediately as freshman before they leave.

Since we’re talking lineups and not recruiting, who should have played more minutes at Forward on that team?

Benny was a disaster. One of the Centers I guess?
You just refuse to see the reality that JB purposely constructed those teams to insure his player agendas. Yes, it must have been a monumental coincidence that his sons had to play those monster minutes.

Level to me means even.
I find it far from even

On players leaving It's simple. Players left as a result of numerous factors which was not on either just them or the staff. It was a mix. Thus we can argue forever which held more weight for endless hours. Anyone besides that player or the staff can't offer more than speculation.

For one of the players I can absolutely confirm it was a mix given what was told to me. Again as for which factored more.. no clue.

Like I said, it was just so convenient! Nothing else we could’ve done. Can’t possibly expect Syracuse to recruit and keep better forwards than Cornell!

Thankfully Jimmy had eligibility or else we would’ve had to play a walk on or something!

Except no. He has a long history of not recruiting over starters. So Buddy (future professional basketball player) not getting recruited over was not at all odd. This doesn’t seem to be a ‘dad wanted to play his son all the minutes cuz nepotism’ thing.

KR and Joe splitting minutes seemed fair. KR is more of a PG but his AST% doesn’t indicated anything special. Joe brought things that Kadary didn’t. Perfect situation to split time.

Guerrier left because he didn’t get to play on the perimeter as much as he wanted. The plan was for him to play 30+ mpg if he returned like JB would have preferred. Braswell and Newton weren’t ready and the benefit of hindsight shows that neither is particularly good. So Jimmy played out of necessity, and not a necessity caused by JB forcing guys out (unless limiting Woody’s inefficient minutes counts as forcing him out). The number of transfers out was a blindside; recruiting was done, so the only thing the team could have done in place of Jimmy was a different transfer. And it’s not like we get to just pick the transfers we like.

We were blindsided by transfers. How do you recruit for that?

Anselem could have played. Benny being a “disaster” would seem to indicate that the staff either goofed on their talent evaluation, or failed to develop him properly.

Could have also recruited another forward, or signed another transfer. Real out of the box thinking, though

We'll see. A lot depends how many feet he puts in his mouth going forward in the national media.

He's getting called out for his shortcomings in the national media now and based on the recent cbs article and his post retractions, he's more than ready to fire shots at the drop of a hat laden with complete BS. He shown he can get away with this in local post game pressers where "Jim just says stuff"... But with national writers and casters?? One thing for sure, "Boeheim decline at Syracuse" is on the national radar screen now.

He's never had to deal with this before - the national media really coming at him. I don't think he will handle it well and this article is proof positive of that. It's not in his nature.
The national media and other fan bases have not exactly been in JB's corner for a long time. I can't tell you how many times I've had SU gear on that provoked a snide comment about Bo-heem.

It panics everyone. There are very few people who actively look to retire once they get to 65+. Young people idolize it but they forget when you’re that old, you can’t do most of the things that kept you going on the weekends when you were 25. Going through it with my parents now. Neither want to retire because they don’t know what to do with their day and theyre worried about how they feel now that they have no responsibility and they have lost the social connection that work provides. The weekends are great because we all have to work to get there, once you no longer have to work everyday, the free time loses its shine.
"It panics everyone."
Not true. I retired at 63, am 75 now. I have not missed a beat. I do more fun things now than when I was working. I have aches and pains but keep on going. I also have many retired friends that do things with me. It's too bad about your parents.

i guess it isnt levelled...but it resets every year...unfairly with recent weight to more successful and/or wealthy schools.

its very different now that everything resets every year, basically...which means if you suck now there's a shorter window than ever to turn things around...so its levelled in that way....

before, if you sucked it would take years to build it back up...

I think JB has always been a multi-year...build-the-program coach...which is why he was so successful and just isnt adapting and doesnt truly want to...and hes right thats why k, wright and roy left etc

For me this is the key quote

"We didn't take [many] transfer portal guys," he said. "If we did do it and did whatever we had to do, I wouldn't feel that good about that. These other [coaches], it doesn't bother them."

I get what he's saying...most coaches dont care a la Willard "stealing" Kadary...or other coaches recruiting players that beat them in the handshake line...the "brotherhood" of college coaches can't be healthy in the current environment...

for instance, i know JB and Wright talked about Swider before he transferred to SU and Im sure it was with both coaches blessings...

that simply is not a consdieration now for most coaches...they would probably just "steal" whomever they can...

which, how can anyone argue is a good thing for the sport??

At the end of the day, the portal, NIL, is the game now...it turns me into less of a fan, tbh, but this is the game and if you want to win you have to play

seems JB is saying he wants to do it his way ...the old school way...the "right way"...and ignore how the game has changed

he doesnt wanna be the guy who takes a good player from a smaller school and hurt that program and hurt that coach...simply for his gain...imo...which I like.

but if SU wants to win, he needs to play the current game...not the ncaa 1980s-90s game he grew up on.

it is time to use the portal.
