It panics everyone. There are very few people who actively look to retire once they get to 65+. Young people idolize it but they forget when you’re that old, you can’t do most of the things that kept you going on the weekends when you were 25. Going through it with my parents now. Neither want to retire because they don’t know what to do with their day and theyre worried about how they feel now that they have no responsibility and they have lost the social connection that work provides. The weekends are great because we all have to work to get there, once you no longer have to work everyday, the free time loses its shine.
Not everyone panics, but certainly a good number of people, including your parents, which I am sorry to hear. I retired at 66 with happy anticipation. I have traveled extensively, including a dream trip to Kenya. I spend my life in pursuit of hedonistic pleasure. I love being with my friends and (usually) my family. I was able to help my mother-in-law when she died without feeling the press of work, and that was a privilege. I feel that 80 is when people usually slow down (but not everyone!) and I turn 73 soon, so I am going to take advantage of the rest of this decade.

Covid really sucked for all of us, so that put a screeching halt to things for a while. My husband may not recover, but I hope he does.

Your parents will find things to do, perhaps unexpected things. I wish them luck!

However, Coach is a horse of a different color. He is INTENSE about coaching. It is all he knows. He likes to golf but clearly does not relish the idea of, say, a tour of all the gulf courses in the world. When I was reading his comments I couldn’t help but think “panic attack.” I feel deep compassion for him, but I also think it is time for him to explore the brave new world of being an unemployed senior citizen. He might like it!

They were good players but the team went 16-17.

Needed more good players. They clearly weren’t 35 mpg, carry the team to wins type players.
And injuries. They would have won more games if Edwards had not been out for the last 10. Not having Torrance might even have cost a couple.

I predict no one will care about this by the end of the week.

For the comments on Adam, he’s clearly distancing himself to play both sides. I’m pretty sure Adam has said he and JB talk daily so I’m sure this has been said before in private and I highly doubt AW cares. (Why would he? He’s doing it for the community not JB)

As far as the comments about JW being embarrassed, perhaps he doesn't like or respect wildhack. No one here seems too so why would we think JB would.
Kudos for the effort, but there's no getting around this. And to say "well, it's just JB being JB- same way he's been for 40 years", is to apologize, rationalize, and excuse asinine behavior w/ a shrug. It doesn't make it right.
I keep referencing Bob Knight but I think we're looking at a similar situation here. He's an embarrassment, and bottom line he's not delivering on the court. Time for JW and the AD to grow a set and announce that next year is his last. Give him that bit of grace, none of which he's given them. Period. JMHO

JB has always been his own worse enemy. Ironically, it's the Thamel type interviews, public comments, poor behavior in the pressers, and throwing anyone and everyone under the bus that will burn up his "equity" faster than the decline on the court.

It's sad, but predictable, to see it play out like this.

I defy you to find a single headline about this in 6 days

Ugly is we bring JB back next year and have a season like Louisville is having this season.

Its somewhat likely that is what would happen. Yeah I like Taylor and Brown too but are they 15ppg guys next year that can carry us and prevent that from happening if expected departures occur and we get Geno Thorpe'd on the transfers?
I don't think it would be quite that bad. JB isn't Kenny Payne.

Maybe just maybe the powers that be will finally realize this is a sheet show that needs to be demolished and that we need to start from scratch with new blood.
Agreed.

Are you gonna scrub the internet and get rid of all the articles?

Start with these:

If Jesse doesn’t come back and SU doesn’t go to the portal, SU will be Louisville light next year. If Judah doesn’t come back then all bets are off. Total disaster is waiting.

So I’m assuming you purposefully misread my comment. I obviously don’t mean THESE articles will disappear. I meant you won’t see new articles being written.

I’m thinking Jim doesn’t get off easily for his comments this time. Just a guess. What that means I don’t know. These comments are different.

Could be. And that combined with the decline could trigger more severe reactions, which precipitate the beginning of the end. I think I agree with 007 that this was inevitable, I just didn't think it would happen so quickly.

And it's sad to see the media unilaterally attacking him, but he has no one to blame but himself for those asinine comments.

I didn't misread anything. If above is what you meant, ok... But it's not what you wrote. Your original comment didn't make any sense.

Yup Barstool article just popped up in my news feed about this too.

Also

Weird part to me is the part he mentions having full support of the administration. If it was anyone else who has some PR sense it'd be meaningless polish and who knows what's really going on behind closed doors. But with Jim's lack of filter and polish I actually believe he has the full support of the administration which makes me sad...

It made sense if you didn’t read it with a clear (and wrong) bias
