It does matter, and it’s important context as everyone acts like the sky is falling.
It doesn’t. The program stinks and everyone looks at us as a washed up program with a jerk coach.

“That goes away if you win”….but that perception also makes it harder to win. We couldn’t even fill a starting forward slot, and got stuck with the coach’s son playing more minutes than he did at Cornell.

People meaning SU fans? They will be fine if wins come after JB leaves. People outside the program? Don’t care enough to give Syracuse a second thought unless a game is on. We, and most fans, build the university up to be FAR more important to people outside the Syracuse halo than it actually is.
Recruits care.

Our rivals will make fun of us.

It’s a bad look. He needs to go.

Iowa state won 2 games two years ago. They’re top 15 today. Are they just so special and such a stellar destination that Syracuse could never do that?

We will never be top 15 again as long as Boeheim is here.
They might not be, but after him anything is possible and JBs comments yesterday will have zero impact.

Well, they got a new, young coach, who wasn't afraid to use to the transfer portal.
And when Syracuse gets a new coach, JBs comments will mean nothing. This doesn’t apply some irreparable damage to the program like some like to pretend it does.

So, for a year, maybe 2, maybe 3 - date to be determined by JB - the comments DO mean something,,,

It’s irreparable damage to his tenure. Nobody wants to play here anymore.

I’m trying to figure how he “mis-spoke” about Pitt and Wake. He went out of his way to bring them up and say something very specific about them. I’m confused on how that is mis-speaking?

Did he say something that is true that he now regrets saying? Or did he say something that was untrue? Seems like it’s one or the other.

He probably should avoid talking about other programs unless it’s the standard coach-speak “they’re a tough team, blah blah” after the game.
No sense trying to figure it out because it won't hold up to scrutiny. Choosing to call it misspeaking also speaks volumes, IMO.

They mean something in regard to JB, they mean nothing to the school

He’s done enough damage already. His kids are gone. We have stopped winning. There’s zero reason for him to stick around except to have us suck more and hold the program hostage.

FFS people had less patience with Pasqualoni and he had worse support from a financial and facilities perspective. There’s zero reason we should suck, but we do because our coach is washhed.

Just so long as he doesn't chase the "buying a team" thing further and put a damn spotlight on SU for it and then we have the NCAA down our backs. Being too open about things bit us with the sanctions. Tempting fate is not ideal. If he doesn't like it the world doesn't need to know while we are in the middle of building a strong '24 class.

Running his mouth could still make life a bit harder for the next coach if it's an internal hire if that were the case as noted above.

The question I have is this - if JB thinks it’s all about him, how many of his players are at SU solely due to him? And if that number is > 0, how many stay due to him.

Imagine if Wake or Pitt’s coach just randomly accused Syracuse of “buying a team” out of nowhere, for no reason. Lol.

And when half of them leave, you and the other guy will say there’s nothing we could do! Just like when 4 forwards and the should be starting PG transferred 2 years ago.

And we’ll be “young” and “not ready” again. Oh well. What can you do?
How about when 1 under achiever leaves and 2 others graduate? You going to come back to this comment and own up or pretend like you always knew the team would stick around. I have a feeling it’ll still be “the sky is falling” still and that JB somehow pushed out a guy who gave more slack then he’s earned.

He needs to stop doing interviews. Its backfiring on all levels. I"m not sure 95% of his own family wants him to keep coaching.
I actually think it is helping the “get him out of here ASAP” contingent. Marginally, but I don’t think it hurts. If he keeps doing interviews like this, there is no choice to be made.

That's interesting logic given the constant pointing back to how much this program and JB are so much one in the same. All the sudden that is no longer the case? It's going to be more complicated than that. It will matter how he handles himself once he is no longer coaching given attention will be paid to anything he has to say.

You act like he will disappear into the sunset and become irrelevant. Again after nearly half a century and making the program what it's known for and no one dismissing that fact.. Syracuse will still be playing on JBs court, possibly his former players will be coaching and likely he will be at the dome catching games as a spectator.

Yes, the 'JB is The Program' crowd has been conspicuously silent since the Thamel article broke.

So just Benny, Joe, and Jesse gone?

Everyone else back? Anybody else knew brought in? Tourney in 2024?
