Dome Renovation

It's too bad they took the bleachers out of Manley, I think it would be cool if we played there one year.
In that scenario, if you're not at the Preferred A level, then you wouldn't see a home game in person.

That article cited was from January 28, 2015

While it could still be accurate, it seems like the recent talks indicate something may be coming out sooner. However, because the university has consistently reported that a decision would be made by the end of the academic year 2016, I would not be too surprised with that either.

What I had was they were exploring to have the option to move the Basketball court to the center and decrease seating to 44,000. Might want to try and get a final 4 bid,but the current electrical system will need to be upgraded a lot for that to happen.

No one knows for sure what is going to happen, but things are in a multiple design phase. There no way will they be able to do what they want and not miss a basketball game. Realities have not hit home up there yet.

2017/2018 before anything gets started. Well over a $ billion will be spent up on the hill over those years and a little beyond. I see some heavy public money being spent.
I thought the Final Four was totally out of the question, regardless of the Dome. There aren't enough hotel rooms or something...

At this point, I think it has more to do with the entertainment options in Syracuse in March than it does with available hotel rooms. It's definitely not just about the basketball being played at the Final Four anymore, and it hasn't been in a while.

I believe that the Final Four can't take place in any college facility. For that reason, you will remember that SU was always put in another region when the Dome hosted a regional final.

As of 1997, the NCAA has preferred to use the larger football stadiums with a capacity of over 50,000. There simply aren't any college facilities which qualify.

Schools are prohibited from having a home court advantage prior to the Final Four (although a school can play a FF in its' home city or area ... Butler 2010). That's why SU can't play in the East when the Dome hosts games.

The last FF that took place on a college campus was 1985 at Rupp.

It may be just to make sure we keep getting the East Regional every few years. Those are even going to big football stadiums now adays

The media that covered the last Regional Final here were bitching that they got stuck in Syracuse relative to the other 3 Regional locations. I think the only person that was positive about it was Magic Johnson. The media would have a field day if they all had to converge in Syracuse for a FF.

= pudgy, awkward, middle-age sports writers were disappointed by the strip clubs and "escorts" available.

Quite frankly, the media can kick rocks.

Most are pretentious blowhards who think they're WAY more important than they are.

Is that all? Perhaps in the next proposal we can put in there that we've hired special consultant Andre McGee to assist in this regard? ;)

Cheers,
Neil

the media wants every game to be where its nice to walk around outside while they dont cover the game. its the great debate, which is more important the game or the events around the game.

I think if Buffalo ends up building a football stadium downtown, that would be a more likely location to host a final four than Syracuse ever would be. I would just hope that stadium wouldn't instead take away the Dome hosting the East Regionals.

Buffalo's new stadium will be open air.

Buffalo already has a large basketball arena that hosts regionals at times and is in a city that is not really big on college sports. The dome's place is secure especially with some renovations.

What about SU at MSG in 1996?

I guess Dream Girls on Erie Blvd closed?

They would have been happy back in the day...

Can we just start submitting fan renderings of what the new dome will look like? The BOT is just going to drag this process out longer than a City Hall lawsuit. Might as well have some fun with this. Serious conceptual drawings only, of course.
