True but recruiting for Bama is kinda like calling a kid and saying “hey young man would you like to play for Alabama? Yes coach Marrone, where do I sign?” Recruiting over. 007 shared in another thread that there was more to it for Marrone than just disliking recruiting , so if that is the case thats fine. That still doesn’t change my perspective that you don’t rehire a former HC.
I wouldn't be surprised if Marrone went to Bama to study them and Saban to prep for a return here. He doesn't need the money and could have stayed in the NFL.
I also think Marrone wouldn't come here, but I also don't think he's a good fit for today's game anymore. He did a good job in 2012 but he also had a Senior QB, Senior WRs, a Senior NFL LT, etc.
When Nick Saban says you can't win games anymore by running the ball, playing for field position, and playing good defense, that should be a huge wake up call to coaches.
We don't need to hire a meathead, we need to follow the Dino model but tweak the process and aim for someone who's a better player developer, disciplinarian, someone with a strong offensive scheme but a bit more experience at building up a program.
Perhaps Tango. Its just not a common solution and just my opinion but it reeks of a school and AD that can’t figure things out, so they try going old hat. Living in the past. Would rather have them either be aggressive and just shell out some cash on a bigger name and see how that works or go lower dollar and get a young buck who has the potential.
As Gomer Pyle would say surprise, surprise, surprise - once again you fail to tell the whole story of the Marrone era and just look at wins and losses and schedule strength.
By the time it trickles down to Antwon Bailey, it's the end of the domino effect. With just 49 non-specialist scholarship players on Syracuse's football roster…

In 2009, SU entered the season with 70 scholarship players. In 2010 spring, SU had 49 non-kicking scholarship players and 3 specialists for practice. The other seven Big East teams averaged 90 players on their spring rosters. Even with the full recruiting class coming in, they were still well short of 85 that season.
Sure Doug might have been responsible for some of the attrition by apparently being a hard ass. But what was he supposed to do? He took over a program that won 10 overall games and 3 conference games in 4 years under Greg Robinson. They couldn't even come close to competing against that Big East schedule. He had to completely rebuild the roster.
Now I'm not the biggest Marrone fan like this may seem, but when you constantly talk his record just in terms of wins and losses, but scream asterisk all last season about Dino and include every single detail about why it's been difficult for him, I'm going to flag you for posting malpractice.

Fair, as a fan I just feel worn down. Sick of the non stop re-building for the last 17 years. At this point I want Tony to get a shot or let Doug atleast get us to the point of mid field conference battler since hes had success here before.
I feel like I cant take another hyped up hire let down, even though like a glutton for punishment I'll schedule my Saturdays around it no matter what.

Marrones second year saved the program. Just getting that rag tag group to a bowl was massive turnaround for the fan base and the psyche. Coming off grob we needed it and he pulled it out. Beating WVU on the road was just monstrous

Again, didn’t say it wasn’t important. I enjoyed every second. But - this is more a critique of using “2 winning seasons in 4” as a kind of benchmark without context.
If he comes here and wins does he jump for a better NCAA job? I doubt he gets offered an NFL gig again even though he did a good job overall his two stops.
