Duke Postgame

Man, it’s a shame there’s no way to make sure the best shooters take the most shots. If there was a way to do that, in some kind of schematically sound offensive structure, we might be better. But there’s no way. Damn.

It's wild - if you go back to when we played a team like Houston, it's almost like such a thing might matter.

Going from a 4 point loss to Houston (#2) to a 40 point loss to Duke (#3) is truly a testament to what Red can accomplish the longer he has to work with these kids and really let his coaching sink in.

Red allows JJ to get plays at the start of each half by design. He’s done this all year. JJ has plays run for him to kickoff each half.

So right off the bat JJ was chucking against a team much better than us. He settled for jumpers mostly.

His first basket was at the rim. But, yes, after he made the first 2 or 3 shots, he took around 3 shots and missed - but they were not early in shot clock; they were with a second or two left, because nobody else could get open. When did Donnie take his FIRST SHOT INSIDE THE ARC? In the second half, after the game was over. So who was JJ "taking shots from"?

Donnie’s usage and choices are crazy. Kingz should be more of a focus. Thank god for William Kyle this game at least. The subs were abominable.

Donnie doesn't take more shots because Donnie is not that confident. It's about his confidence. He and Kingz touched the ball on every possession in that first 12 minutes. They couldn't create shots. George was under too much pressure on the ball to be able to run the offense.

We can agree to disagree on JJ. But I will find the answer to how many guys have started 105+ games and have a TS% below 50%. I have to see who is on that list.

As I said before, when the other guys play well, he doesn't have to take so many shots, or play so many minutes. Just look at last game.

Tonight, nobody else really stepped up. That's not JJ's fault that they were intimidated by the atmosphere. I said it a hundred times, if you think JJ plays too much, the other guys have to play better.

Who played better tonight? Who played well? Anyone, honestly?

Our best shooters have to get open. George, despite not having many turnovers in the 1st half, had a heck of time getting us into any offense. Wouldn't you agree? They had a 6-7 guy with Michael Cooper kind of arms pressuring him as he brought the ball up court.

How’s that for form? Don’t think I’ve ever seen a right hand on the ball like that ever. Or a left hand in that spot either. And yes I’m annoyed at this team right now if it’s not obvious already lol

He's not a star player. He was never intended to be our star player.
But the other guys have to play better, and take his minutes.
That's how sports works.

Kudos to the SU fan who watched the entire game. You're a bigger fan than I, or you are a masochist.
I watched the whole thing, like a person watching a train wreck or rubbernecking and driving slow around a car accident, you just want to see and peruse the carnage and see how bad it is

It's like everyone blames JJ for the other guys not playing better and taking his minutes.

It's honesty that simple, folks. PLAY BETTER.

I could not care less whether firing Red would be an embarrassment to him or not. But I question if replacing him before the end of the season would be a positive in any way.

Nope. Do you hear the media screaming about K State firing their coach in season because he mouthed off in a press conference, and are trying to say it's "for cause".

Sure, we need that kind of publicity. What the hell are you thinking?
Just like UConn firing Kevin Ollie and trying to stiff him on the pay out was awful press for them.
We don't need that as a program.

Kingz and George combined for the same number of FGAs as JJ (13) but had 18 points to his 9.

SPORTS

Yes, and pretty much none of those points were in the first 10 minutes.
I think they got maybe 1 bucket each in the first 10 minutes.

Donnie. Really soft man. Love the dude and glad to have him and hope he comes back next year. But has to get much stronger mentally and physically. He doesn't impose himself. Plays soft.

He's an athlete, but he doesn't seem like he played very much playground ball, where you have to win to hold the court. He's just not tough at all. Scoop Jardine and Rick Jackson were nowhere as talented as Donnie, but they were "Philly Tough". Donnie plays like a prep school kid raised in the burbs.

I don’t think he will get drafted. He would have to go FA and hope or settle for G league.

He has to get much stronger, much more physical, and much tougher mentally.
He has the bounce, and great ball skills for a guy his size.
But he's very weak, mentally and physically.

Are you JJs agent?

Does it seem like JJ has removed what little arc he had left on his three point shot?
he's laser focused on the rim. literally
Players at any level will sink into bad habits and lazy play if its allowed.
i pay a man to come to my house and cut down a tree should i have to teach him how to start a chainsaw ?

I thankfully had a work dinner and couldn't watch, but did anyone honestly expect anything different than the final outcome?

Was the coaching staff and players at your work dinner? Just asking because they didnt show up for the game either
