Duke Postgame

Why should they care about embarrassing him? He embarrasses himself every night
How about all of the SU alumni, fans, etc who are totally embarrassed? How about us? Because at this point I am so embarrassed and ashamed of my school and what we have let happen to a storied program, and this goes back to how we handled Mike Hopkins, and getting Boeheim to retire. Worried about JBs feelings made a lot more sense though. But at this point a public announcement needs to be made that Red will not be retained after this season,

I'm with you, llandz. I feel and share your pain. I will never stop supporting this program on a high level but this is reeeeeaaaalllly hard at times.

Not one person on this board (that I know of) had anything to do with the loss so why should anyone be embarrassed? I get being frustrated, aggravated etc but I’m not embarrassed at all. Maybe I’m at that stage of grief where you disassociate from it all.

I'll let others answer this. I am sure a lot of us are embarrassed. It is our school. It does not represent my expectations at the moment. Frustrated also. But it is not a product I can be proud of and a poor reflection of a school I have given 25 years of my time and treasure in various volunteer board positions. It reflects poorly on Syracuse University that they put such a poor product in the national spotlight. I know it is a sticky situation if they should let a coach go in the middle of the season, but they could make a public announcement that while Autry will finish this season, he will not be retained for next season.

I’m loathe to put everything on JJ’s shoulders. No, he’s not an efficient producer. But he takes so many shots because he is the only player quick enough and versatile enough to get/create shots. We’d all like Kingz’ percentage, but Kingz doesn’t do enough to get more shot opportunities. I don’t think JJ is a chucker. He doesn’t take a lot of bad shots. He might miss them badly, but he works for those opportunities and takes open threes.

His inefficiency is a fault of the (lack of an) offensive scheme and a lack of foresight, insight, and execution. That’s on the staff. JJ should not be a first option on a good team. Unfortunately, Donnie doesn’t play like someone who is disciplined to recognize what he should do, Kingz isn’t consistently dynamic enough, George can’t beat his man…. All because it seems like the team just goes out and does what is comfortable, and not what is necessary.

As if our latest round of humiliation couldn't get any worse... JJ's uncle chimes in. I can't believe that SU is going to let Autry and this staff finish the season out. Just a complete disaster of a situation that is only going to keep getting worse.

I envision there is a secret weekly meeting with JJ’s uncle, Tommy’s dad and Judah’s grandpa. They sit around complaining about all the coaches and why their kids are the best

lol I’m sorry, but this guy is WRONG. Jj was what like 3-15 tonight? I feel like a solid 50% of shots that the guy takes. He’s just throwing the ball at the rim without even looking at it no matter where he is on the court. That’s not coaching, that’s the player.

Look, Red is gone. He’s an alum and former assistant and they don’t want to embarrass him. There’s been much discussion about the pros and cons of letting him go before the end of the season. We just came off a beating and it takes an emotional toll. But, I really do think you need to consider firing him now. The program needs to show some pride. We have to make a statement that this once proud program will not stand for this anymore. It has to be considered. It just has to be. I don’t see how you wait for the inevitable ACC tournament loss. At this point, messaging is more important than whatever happens these last weeks of the season. The message should be about seeking greatness not accepting complete mediocrity or worse.

Letting him go today would be an act of mercy. And it would have been one a month ago also. The idea firing a guy in season embarrasses a guy, but forcing him to coach a team that has quit, in games we lose -often badly, while TV announcers talk about the sad state of Syracuse basketball and home fans chant for his firing is crazy.

“We don’t want to embarrass him by firing him in season, we’ll stick with him through another month of humiliation rituals so he can leave with dignity!”

Just so stupid and out of touch with reality.

It’s on Red. He’s featured him in the offense every year. We could have moved on. We didn’t. Not shocked it turned out this way. It was a concern at the end of last season.

Just about a month ago exactly, we lost to BC.

Outside of the last two games (Cal and SMU), it's been mostly a rough month.

In what other scenario in the actual “business” world would red not be terminated by now? You make a million a year and suck? Just finish out the next month please. Make sure you let the world see how bad you are so it shows how loyal and stupid we are. Thanks.

Especially when we just want to see competent and competitive basketball.

No one thinks we can mimic Duke or the top tier teams.

But to expect to be top 25 or even ORV and make the tournament relatively safely most years is what we should demand.
That’s how far SU has sunk over the past ten years. The bar is that low.

There was no scenario in the actual business world where it made sense to hire Red in the first place.

Dad owned the business and sold it to investors but with the promise that his kid has the head job for at least 3 years
That approach might work for a small mom-and-pop shop, but it isn't a viable approach for a Fortune 500. Therein lies the difference.

Ditto!

It should be simple - tell Red you’re going to announce there will be a new head coach next year, let him decide if he plays out the string or relaxes on his couch for the next few weeks. Pretty close to how we handled Babers.

The one reason not to is that school has handled basketball so poorly for the last 10 years that I don’t think they really lose more fans by continuing to screw up, and won’t regain fans until they have a legitimate NCAA tournament team with a single digit seed. Continuing to bungle this by letting Red stay on with no announcement change is coming doesn’t really matter much.
