Duke Postgame

No. Two things can be true. Red can be a bad coach and George is an awful point guard.
George will be a good piece next season with either a new coach at Syracuse or elsewhere. His struggles at Syracuse is due to a lack of winning culture that we used to have and are struggling to reestablish.

He has a lousy handle, telegraphs half his passes, and can’t beat anyone off the dribble because of a lack of winning culture? Maybe part of our losing culture is having losing players as primary options.

Our best shooters have to get open. George, despite not having many turnovers in the 1st half, had a heck of time getting us into any offense. Wouldn't you agree? They had a 6-7 guy with Michael Cooper kind of arms pressuring him as he brought the ball up court.
Yeah, Dame Sarr from Italy! By the way, we haven’t been able to recruit well overseas for the second year in a row. The aussie kid has been relegated in the bench since november and majstorovic has been clearly showed the door after last season( altough he is playing well this year for long beach state

Dan E's hire should've been contingent on Leffew. Red got played. And the worst part is Leffew wasn't even that great of a prospect. Sums up the red era dysfunction perfectly.
How DARE you! Dakota Leffew was the answer to every problem this program has ever had. He's like Michael Vick was to our football program, if Michael Vick was also Reggie Bush and Larry Fitzgerald.

His first basket was at the rim. But, yes, after he made the first 2 or 3 shots, he took around 3 shots and missed - but they were not early in shot clock; they were with a second or two left, because nobody else could get open. When did Donnie take his FIRST SHOT INSIDE THE ARC? In the second half, after the game was over. So who was JJ "taking shots from"?

Donnie doesn't take more shots because Donnie is not that confident. It's about his confidence. He and Kingz touched the ball on every possession in that first 12 minutes. They couldn't create shots. George was under too much pressure on the ball to be able to run the offense.

As I said before, when the other guys play well, he doesn't have to take so many shots, or play so many minutes. Just look at last game.

Tonight, nobody else really stepped up. That's not JJ's fault that they were intimidated by the atmosphere. I said it a hundred times, if you think JJ plays too much, the other guys have to play better.

Who played better tonight? Who played well? Anyone, honestly?
What you are remembering in support of JJ does not come close to the play-by-play

From the play-by-play:
The first SU basket was Kyle at the rim from an admittedly nice pass by JJ.
Next JJ missed a 9-footer with 7 seconds on the clock.
Next SU shot was a JJ 3-pointer with 19 seconds on the shot clock with an assist by George.
Next was a missed JJ 18-footer with 13 seconds on the shot clock.
Next Kingz missed an 18-footer at the buzzer.
Next George missed a driving layup with 14 seconds on the shot clock.
Kyle got a block and JJ grabbed the rebound.
Freeman missed a 25-footer and JJ got the rebound
Freeman made a 19-footer with 10 seconds on the clock.
Next, a Kyle block, a George rebound and assist on a Kingz layup
Next, JJ missed a 25-footer with 11 on the clock.
Next, Freeman missed a 25-footer with 19 on the shot clock
Next, M Brown fouled Kyle, who missed both free throws. In the midst of the two misses JJ and Freeman were subbed out with 12:25 on the game clock.
Souare missed a layup
White missed a 10-footer
Anthony turnover
George 3-pointer with 10 on the shot clock and making the score 12-16.
Betsey missed an 11-footer with 18 on the shot clock
Betsey missed a 25-footer as the clock is expiring. White rebound followed by,
Anthony misses wide open 24-footer
Betsey misses a 24-footer
Duke turnover; TV timeout; 7:55 to go in the half; score: 12-21

So, in the first 12 minutes, JJ was one of four, missed his only close-in shot and he was not being forced to throw stuff up at the buzzer.

I agree that Freeman is soft; no inside game and I am not sure where the team can reliably get him the ball where he has a shot or he can get his shot.

What this tells me is that the team could not get the ball inside and players started chucking even with time on the clock.

Good teams know JJ and he too cannot get his own shot, not even his I have no left hand right-handed on the left side layups.

Bottom line for me, the players have skills but Autry cannot coach and has no idea to maximize the skills they have.

To anyone expressing the opinion that it isn't as simple as hiring a quality coach who can implement good systems on both sides of the ball, and find system fits without breaking the bank -- yeah, it actually is that simple.

Miami (Oh) is in the top 25. Remind me again:

  • What is their NIL budget?
  • How much did they spend on transfers this past off-season?
  • How many 4- and 5- stars do they have on their roster?
  • What facilities do they have that offer competitive advantage?

Yeah, it IS that simple.
Miami Ohio plays an easy schedule. They are 0-0 in Quad 1 games and 1-0 in Quad 2 games. Syracuse is 73 in Ken Pom and Miami Ohio is 85. In NET, Syracuse is 70 and Miami Ohio is 51.

I don’t know why this post annoys me so much. Feels like they’re punking us even more, especially coming from the official account. Cannot wait for a new regime because I’m sick of the laughingstock we have become.

Well it bothered me as a small part worried Kiyan could end up in a Duke uniform with Melo in Cameron many nights….

Just realized they fired Jerome Tang after a similar beat down. That was very embarrassing. Been a tough year of wood shed stompings for the cuse.
Tang took some beatdowns this season, but they probably wouldn't have fired him if he didn't pop off about his players. FTR, I don't think the AD has a case for cause and they will have to pay most if not all of his buyout and it will repel some otherwise good candidates.

I think… Dan’s overall record at his last gig was 72-109.
Against not-this-level competition. I’m not sure how he got our job, save for the Leffew relationship potential, but I really don’t see qualifications for even an interim HC position.
i would rather have them self-coach at this point than Red

I feel Carmelo has a lot of love for Syracuse and would not consider having Kiyan transfer to Duke. His name is on our practice facility. Duke is just trying to put salt in our wounds with that post.

We are insignificant to Duke. Not even worth their time

I envision there is a secret weekly meeting with JJ’s uncle, Tommy’s dad and Judah’s grandpa. They sit around complaining about all the coaches and why their kids are the best
With some of the head scratching turnovers and decisions, Scoop's uncle probably drops by once in a while

The effort and intensity Scheyer gets out of a bunch of 5-star recruits annually is really impressive.

Hell of a coach and Duke falls into another generational talent on the sideline.

Are you JJs agent?

Who played better last night? Who stepped up and tried to make baskets?

I feel like so many of the critics on this board:

(a) don't know what a play actually looks like,

(b) they never played ball on a team,

(c) don't understand team dynamics, and how a coach has to manage personalities,

(d) there's more to coaching than x's and o's, motivation, support, teaching - It also requires being a bit ruthless when it comes to winning games, and sitting down guys who are not getting it done.

I wonder what ultimately led to them giving him the job. They could have gotten any coach in America and probably the nba as well. Clearly the guy is the guy but just curious
