Dukes Banchero

Banchero didn’t even drink though? Why are people acting like he got arrested for that?

I'm ok with that, and the grandson should be facing some consequences, but Banchero seems more like a potential victim here.
If he was sober and let someone who was drinking drive his car he was wrong or if they were both drinking and he let someone drive his or their own car he was wrong.

Not saying they kid deserves jail time but I’m not sure how it can be twisted into him being a victim haha

the outcome will be the same as the storz stolen laptop situation.

Turned over his own car to someone drunk. Which begs the question what type of vehicle is Banchero driving. Of course with NIL, these stars should all have nice cars.

Fortunately no one got hurt.

I don’t get why Banchero would have the other kid drive his car after drinking if Banchero had not been drinking.

Did it say Banchero wasn't drinking?

Averaging like 19 points a game as a freshman - he definitely will be considered a victim.

Duke has already completed an internal investigation. They are censuring the police force for these false charges, and have found no evidence of wrongdoing.

In a prepared statement released 3 minutes after Duke concluded their investigation, the NCAA indicated that they are fully satisfied with these results, and feel like the two players have been "punished enough."
NCAA has enough to do trying to complete their Corey Maggette investigation.

It didn’t say. I’m assuming he was and why my question. If he wasn’t then why have someone else drive that was? He may have only had a couple which didn’t set off any alarms with the cops and why they let him go.

It basically just means he was in the car and knew he was intoxicated, though if the kid only blew a 0.08, Banchero can probably just argue that he didn't know. Not sure if the fact that both are underage complicates it more, but generally speaking, you have to have known they were intoxicated (not just knowing that they had a drink).
If he was .08 when tested he was probably under the limit when he was driving. A persons blood alcohol level will keep going up for about an hour after drinking.Being that he was under 21 complicates everything though.

I’m not condoning drinking while driving, underage drinking, or anything like that, but, come on, I get charging the driver, but I’ve heard of states that will charge a driver and it makes very little sense to me. That said, if the police need tools and training to prove to them that someone is .08 and above (especially that low) then how can you expect a 19/20 year old to determine if the driver is drunk? In all reality Ks grandkid could’ve had two drinks and they take off.

I feel like a potentially drunk passenger in a car with a drunk driver is a victim if an accident happened.

Right, and the grandson figures I will protect the lottery pick for the sake of the program and will try to drive home
Hmmmm. According to the story, "the responding officer administered two breathalyzer tests to Savarino, who was driving a white 2017 Jeep SUV registered to Banchero."

Oh, these kids! I suppose K’s grandson was excited to drive the Jeep and Banchero indulged him. I am thinking Banchero didn’t realize he was “impaired.” Poor judgment on his part, I guess. In NYS they are stricter with minors‘ alcohol testing than someone 21 or older.

I don’t even know what .08 would look like.

It seems the Banchero charge is b.s. but perhaps more will come out. Remember when MCW shoplifted? Pretty humiliating and a much worse offense than what they’re trying to saddle Banchero with.

What’s the big deal about that? Lots of students have cars in college. Big whoop. His parents, who are successful people and former D1 college athletes (his mom is a former WNBA player), likely leased the car for him while he’s at Duke for a year. Considering that he’s a future multimillionaire, why wouldn’t they do that?

Michael Savarino will tell two Boeheims later this season, "My grandpa can beat your dad." Or if grandpa loses, Savarino can at least say, "Your dad is just an assistant of my grandpa."

Based on dukes history with cars I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something shady unless it was some NIL deal.

Not knowing all the real details but if Banchero knew the other kid may have drank too much and he gave the kid the keys and let him drive, he’s almost just as much responsible IMO. He put other people in danger.

Yes, but how drunk are you if you blow a .08? What is that the equivalent of?

My son‘s university doesn’t allow freshman who live on campus to have a car. Allows me to sleep easier at night. Don’t know why any school allows it.
