Dungey has a head injury.

While I agree that the dome will be poorly attended, this made me laugh. Missing the 500 students who attend games isnt the issue.
Totally wrong. The students have been there. They won't be from here on in, because in the Northeast nobody bothers watching a losing team.

And that's part of the reason why schools like Syracuse will continue to struggle.

It's become a Southern based sport.

This is going to take a huge effort on tte school's part.

Hope they're up to it.

Stop. They may have been a little better than last year but they are a far cry from making a dent into the total attendance. The student section has been absysmal since the 90s.

I was planning to go to BC since I'll
Be home for holiday but honestly.. Might just spend that time with family instead. Was really hoping the game would have meaning.

Regardless of what kind of injury it is, it's really dumb to have your starting QB and really the primary hope of the program in the coming years, out there getting pounded on in the 4th quarter of a blowout.

Also really dumb to address the head injury question in that manner at that point in time. What happened to "upper body injury"?

It's everything - Mahoney was not prepared, Lester and Shafer said two different things (at least Lester said something realistic) - we were losing by 31 points, Dungey should never been out there.

I remember the posts when SS first started and people had the nerve to say he didn't have his act together to be HC - and look at this. it's frigging shameful.

I've been saying this since he was hired and been tarred and feathered. I hate to say it, but I was really, really on... Disgraceful what he did to this team and that kid.

seems like reporter assumed head injury when asked shafer and shafer just rolled with it. to me it looked more like neck, shoulder ,ribs

I'm so confused, we rarely discuss the specificity of injuries and here we have Shafer saying its a head injury moments after the game ends? The guy is clearly rattled.

4th and 5 at the 35 what should I do?

Is the head part of the upper body or lower body, what should I say?

The entire syr.com staff thinks everything is a concussion.

it doesn't matter, unless the staff can coach dungey to get some yards and get down he will be a perpetual injury risk. the kid is either not being coached to avoid hits, or he is ignoring the staff, either one is bad and he will not have a prolonged college career. he has average talent, average. that's it and the guy will either figure out how to not get hit or he won't.

He did a nice job most of the game avoiding hits. Then, with the game out of reach, he went for broke and took a hit.

Not smart.

Well, should be just effin awesome watching Clemson play us next week. Not.
Never ever use the word "not" like that again. It's not 1991 anymore. Notice how I used "not" appropriately there?

They were losing by 31 points in garbage time - the goal is to not get hurt. Let's be real, please.
Don't you think it's possible to have more than one goal? To me, at that point in a game, getting extra practice reps at game speed is also a goal. If your only goal at that pint is to not get players hurt then go ahead and forfeit or take a knee every play and punt out of bounds.
I don't have a problem with Dungey being in the game or on the bench there.

There was a tweet later that Lester said he still had Dungey in the game to get his rythmn back. My take on that is they were trying to give him confidence by not pulling him after he had thrown two interceptions and had fumble the ball.

Yeah that's exactly what I got out of it. Honestly it wasn't a horrible idea. The guy came from behind and popped him. Could have happened in the first quarter. Momentum is everything and even walking away from that miserable game knowing he completed a free more passes or got another td would have been good for him. Problem that I saw was the team didn't have anything else to make that happen.

Saw that myself and it made some sense.

Agreed. It's football. Can't predict when players will get hurt. Are we saying it would be ok to get Mahoney hurt? Dungey has struggled. He needs reps. Hindsight is always 20/20. Sure we don't want him to get hurt, but I do want him to be a competent qb. And he is our best option for next year. The more reps the better imo. He also seems quite prone to getting jacked up. Not sure why that is. Does he just not protect himself well enough, besides our OL being bad.

Well, nobody ever really wants to acknowledge this, but yes. That's part of giving your bench reps in garbage time - because if someone is going to get hurt, might as well be a guy off the bench.:noidea:

It is morbid.

Ha! We have the worst student section in the country. They come in late and make up for it by leaving early. We sit in the wheelchair section immediately behind them and it is truly pathetic.
