Encouraged by devito

Why did Charlie Ward get the opportunity to play football/basketball at Florida State, yet Syracuse doesn’t extend same opportunity to Joe Girard?
How well regarded was he for football? Did he express an interest in playing both?

He’s a sophomore on the field and first year starting.
Semantics. The point is he is well versed in the system. He looks like he's having to figure some things out more than some QBs with less experience. It's not all on him. Recievers and oline haven't helped and he can't be blamed for not tackling McFarland, but he seems less comfortable than I expected from a guy that has been through spring practice twice and three preseason camps with some game experience.

On field experience is what matters not how many years in the program. He redshirted his freshman year and probably got zero work with the 1’s or even 2’s. He has started exactly two games. That matters. Besides, he had a good game today. Not great but good.

Tell that to Boise St. Theirs is a true freshman. So is Auburn's.

I won't look it up, but you know there are freshman QBs every year that show poise and game control while making impact plays immediately. We've had some here. TD has more experience than any of those guys, more than ED had as a freshman, more time in the system than ED had as a sophomore, and as an elite 11 QB coming out of high school has higher expectations.

He did look better today. Despite his numbers, he made a few boneheaded decisions, so I'd say he had an ok game today, not quite good. I think he'll keep getting better.

Ugh. Come on.

Not while it mattered.

So if he’s not the best he’s just ok.

His first half was better than the second half passing the ball. The stats and passer rating show that. The strip from behind was the only difference. Anyone harping on Devito are just ignoring the real issues today which were the defense #1 and the OL #2.

Good job trying to twist my words. That's not what I said, and you know it.

Well you pointed out a couple freshman that have done well.

I've harped on all of them. Anyone trying to exclude anyone from taking some blame for today's performance isn't paying attention or has an agenda.

We got beat bad today. Tom brady wasnt winning that game for us. But did you see marked improvement from devito? I did. Nothing is conclusive but this was a much better performance than week 1. Clemson is going to be very difficult but we will see what tommy and this team is made of after that.

Really? He completed 72% of his passes, had 3 passing TD.s and the interception was not on him. If you look at it the receiver quit on the route and was out of bounds. You can be pretty sure that when a D1 QB throws the ball directly to the DB it is a busted play.

IF 72% and 3 TD's is just OK for you, I'd say you are in for disappointment in every game you watch.
We are very lucky to have Tommy.

I think Tommy is the reason we have a legit shot to run the table after this week.

He hasn't been good but I think we all expected him to have a better WR group and OL to work with. My guess is all 3 units improve and we turn into a good team. Only problem is a week from now IDK where our programs going to be we are about to play a team much better than MD who owes us a whooping. The timing of the bye is dreadful.

Too many guys were covered downfield. Receivers have to break off their patterns and come back to the QB, not just stand there downfield watching the play.
I was also dumbfounded by the 4th down throwaways, but even more troublesome are the receivers that seem to be standing around or get run out of bounds. Also the game started out poorly with the drop by Riley on the very first play. That first play was a huge momentum swing right out of the gate. The WR group needs to get their act together.

I think the timing of the bye is great actually.

I have no expectation that we will beat Clemson.

We'll be 1 and 2, and the staff will be able to say, guys, what kind of season do you want to have?

And we'll have two winnable games to right the ship and then get into the conference.

I’m encouraged by Devito but not for the offense Babers wants to run. It could still work out here we have had players like Nassib have a nice career and was more of a pocket passer like Devito is. I just think a guy like Chance Amie would of been the perfect fit, however he had issues so it is what it is. The good is Devito potentially had three more years here to figure it out.
