Encouraged by devito

Most ppl will disagree but i believe he will stop with the mental mistakes, which are a reflection of being inexperienced, and will start really playing well. Clemson will be tough but he will be seasoned after that and expect a strong finish for him. He was much more accurate and made some great throws today. Only complaint is he needs to do better when forced to roll out but the reason hes forced to do that is everyone is covered anyways.

I bagged on devito last week and rightfully so imo but theres a lot i saw today that was encouraging from him.
I think I saw improvement from last week despite some boneheadedness today. Hopefully, that trend doesn't plateau anytime soon.

I'm really not encouraged. Granted, the OL didn't help him out, but too tentative, too error prone for a guy in his third year. There are plenty of redshirt freshman, and even true freshman QBs around the country, who look better.

Stats never tell the whole story because there are many other factors. But Tommy’s QB rating today was very good. 160+. Eric for the season was in the 130’s.

What was his QB rating in the first 20 minutes when the game was still within striking distance?

his best tosses were actually the touch floaters over coverage. the bullet to TJ on the spin was lucky to get thru and the throw away balls made zero sense in many cases. not sure what happened on the pick. listening to dino there are communication or route issues aplenty.

Statistically it turned out to be a good game. He doesn't seem to be that franchise QB that can put a program on it's back though. The last thing I want at QB is a statistical accumulator. Unfortunately, based on 6 games where he saw significant time on the field he seems to be a guy who's success will depend on other factors. He doesn't seem like he is a QB that can change the game on his own. I mean that's not a terrible thing. Those type of players are rare, but you really hope your guy is the one. I'm interested to see how he and this team answer vs Clemson.

Using the ncaa calculator it was 186

He’s a sophomore.

He completed 72% of his passes. How is that too tentative?

Is that with the two turnovers that ended with two MD td’s figured in?
With two turnovers counting the fumble is 173. TD’s on those drives are on the defense. Only counting the 1 pick is 186

I feel like there’s been about 15 plays like that this season.

Noticed the same thing. I do think Devito can be really good if he has pieces around him, like a good OL, but if he's forced out of the pocket things deteriorate quickly. WR's haven't done him many favors either. We don't have that Ish, AET, Custis you can throw a jump ball too.

Why did Charlie Ward get the opportunity to play football/basketball at Florida State, yet Syracuse doesn’t extend same opportunity to Joe Girard?

2nd start. Some dumb TO’s. Wish he didn’t throw it out all of the time.

But he’s going to be very good. Touch on those throws down the field were perfection.

We can only hope that Maryland is as good as I think they are and other than Clemson it’s more even competition. Season is still in front to do well as a team and even better for him personally.

Having just rewatched the game I can see where the glass is half full on him (full disclosure in the frustration of watching today’s disaster spent a lot of time away from the game sulking while cutting the lawn).

On rewatch the same things that frustrated me were seen but what I missed was significant and, hopefully, he improves every week. Our teams success depends on it as we saw today how important a qb is to a team with their ringer in there.
