Fire Autry

Uhhhh BYU is a strange example. They have over 30k FTE, the second largest (only to the Dome) on campus arena, a national fan base, and booster with deep, deep pockets.
Syracuse isn’t exactly a poor school, still has 15k students a year, and isn’t in Utah. I’m just saying that complaining that private schools can’t compete is ridiculous.

Shared elsewhere, but I urge fans to take a long look at Josh Schertz at St. Louis, and watch them this season. Was a finalist for Louisville before they went with Kelsey.

Took the worst job in the Valley at Indiana St to the conference finals against DeVries (now at IU), and will be a contender in the A10 this season. System, system, system with him re: fans concerns on offense. A thing of beauty to watch - would be a homerun for us.

And he's got a hell of a story.

On a good team JJ doesn't play 10 minutes if he gets off the bench at all. From 1987 to 90 he doesn't play. And the championship season he doesn't play. Yet on this team he gets major minutes, that tells you Red is in over his head.
He’s still our best guard which tells us a lot.

Hope you are right. But without Donnie there is no way we are even going .500 in ACC. And I'm getting Arinze vibes about Donnie and his foot. Wearing a boot on the same foot where last year he underwent season ending 5th metatarsal fracture repair with hardware implantation is not leaving me feeling warm and fuzzy about his prognosis.
I thought they said it wasn’t the same foot?

And it’s unfortunate that we won’t when Louisville showed how capable a big time program can be turned around in a short period of time.
Louisville has a huge bag. Can’t compete with that. Doesn’t mean SU can’t be very good, but apples to apples. Last year they spent on their PG than SU did on entire team. I don’t think Red is a great coach. This his first year with real all the players he wanted. Last year it was all he could afford. I think if the team turns around plays great wins 22-23 games and becomes a bubble, then doesn’t get picked. Nothing will change. I feel even if they win 20 SU rolls it back same thing.

For those who want to get a big splash hire, top 20 highest paid coaches are making well over $4m a year. Autry makes about $2m right now. Considering you have to give a coach a 5 year deal, do you really think SU is going to put up essentially another $10m for a coach? Because I certainly don’t think so at all. Even Dusty May who was at FAU is getting 3.6 a year. There is a ZERO percent chance the next coach is a successful “big name”.

Amazing the first 3 games without JJ starting we blow 3 teams out. JJ comes back and starts win a close game, then lose a close game, then lose by ten then we get blown out. Maybe it's time to sit some people on the bench.
. Also no Donnie in the last 3 games. This is not on JJ. Quality of competition of the first 3 games vs the last 3. I will say JJ doesn’t look like last years JJ. Maybe not fully recovered or maybe tentative for fear of getting fouled and facing the demons at FT line. No idea but JJ is not why they lost.

So you're never gonna believe this, but if one school has 30,000 students, and another has 15,000 students, the school with more students also has way more alumni, and the difference in raw numbers of alumni widens every year, which means they have a much larger booster base, and on sheer numbers alone, more chances for those boosters to come from alumni that are pretty wealthy and can make needle moving kinds of donations.

Sounds like the university is throwing in the towel for their premier program. Clearly the BOT doesn’t care about sports or else they’d understand how much they need to spend to be successful.

It’s not happening until the year is over. So don’t even bother.

I want to see what happens Tuesday. This week started really promising and steadily became a complete failure.
you wanna be a serious program? Make the move. The coddling this school and its fanbase does is a joke. It’s life. He’s failing at his job, and just like in all walks of life if you’re failing at your job you’re suseptible to getting fired. Oh no so sad you got fired from your millions of dollars college basketball job and are gonna paid for being fired! Terrible terrible life poor red I feel so bad…..

I will say this every single time these discussion come up. Some of yall protect, coddle and baby your precious Alma mater, friends and colleagues wayy too much causing you to be blinded to the this is.

Do you really think one of the current assistant coaches, who in all likelihood would be named the interim head coach, will change the destiny of this year’s team?

It’s almost like there’s multiple reasons our lame duck coach is cheap compared to most other p5 coaches. 2m puts him around 70th in highest paid coaches. Again like someone else mentioned, we got what we paid for, an inexperienced “coach” who isn’t better, worth more or desired more than bascially every single HC at the p5 level and even some not at the p5 level.

I wanna note here I’m not saying anything bulldog has passed along is wrong, but just that it seems contradictory. They can’t be “serious about sports” while simultaneously constantly looking for a deal when it comes to players and coaches.

Plenty of upgrades that won’t break the bank and some proven guys to gamble on if we want that would be in our our price range IMO

I don’t give a single about this years identity. This team isn’t going anywhere. I care about the future of the program and if any of the players worth keeping beyond this season when red is inevitably gone regardless are coachable. Maybe Dan can bring a different energy, intensity and voice to them and coach them up some. I don’t want them being influenced by a clueless head coach. Your’re right to some extent also though, this is the fault of building a inexperienced coaching staff, coupled with an inexperienced HC.
But there’s also the otger side. The fans are becoming restless and like many have said a blow out against Tennessee and the dome will look like a covid arena the rest of the season. We need to generate as much hype and money we can around the program regardless if red is the coach or not.

I wonder how much less money they are making from the program peak. And how much potential money they are potentially missing out on from not building upon the peak of program. I really think you write a blank check to Nate Oats at this point. Let’s secretly hope he can’t achieve what seemed to be the impossible and win a natty with Alabama. I think it’s highly likely he can win a Natty at Syracuse with the proper investment. Ask yourself who wins the recruitments of Donnie Freeman and Sadiq White if roles were reversed and Adrian Autry was at Alabama and Nate Oats was at Syracuse. It is so absurd to me that a program of the size of Syracuse wouldn’t be able to swing for the fences. And it would be a clear signal they are not committed to building the program back up for real.
