Fire Autry

Again this isn't fantasy football, there's politics and a lot of other issues including financial ones involved. If certain people on the hill hasn't acteds JB would still be on the bench.

I get this. And I don’t think it should be ignored. And I know those people have a tough job. But it is a job.

But at what point in the decades of football and decade of basketball being mediocre or terrible (not to mention our academic ranking tanking) does it get addressed.

And I don’t want to hear about lacrosse. It doesn’t matter.

JB got to work through two probations on top of us being UNLV East for a long time. No matter how much we stick our head in the sand on it.

So I’m not disagreeing with you, but where is the tipping point?

Preach.

McCollum was always staying in the MW. There’s other good coaches out there if we make a move this year.

I dont see how we are making the tournament now. We have to beat Tennessee or we will have to beat UNC in UNC and Duke in Duke or something crazy like that, and not have any bad losses. It is going to be almost impossible now. And I have been told over and over again, it is tournament or he is gone.

Agreed. There’s plenty of good coaches. The idea we missed our window in getting one is crazy. That said, I wish we were 2012 Cuse recruiting a new coach instead of 2025. Our brand is definitely hurt and the game has changed. Boosters are essential for NIL and we don’t have a lot to sell right now.

You can post this all day everyday, but that’s the complaint. Other schools take their athletic programs seriously. SU doesn’t have a leader.

Other schools aren't Private Universities and can tap into tens if not hundreds of millions of state funds. SU also doesn't run like LSU or FSU, there not gonna fire a HC every 2-3 years, they don't have funds. SU takes their Athletics extremely seriously but they're never gonna be able to be Alabama or Ohio State in fball or Kentucky in bball. The Red situation has been explained about a 1000 times by now I don't know how much clearer I can make it.

You and others have explained it but it doesn’t make it less frustrating. If anything, it makes it more so.

Before you hang Autry from the nearest tree don’t you want to see how good the team can be with Freeman? Let’s be honest here. We definitely win Monday with Freeman and probably beat Kansas with him. So I’m willing to give Autry a little grace here. Freeman is a huge loss to the team.
Even with Freeman we saw the same issues from today

The last two teams were missing their best players too. One of them still beat us by 30.

JB was ultimately forced out, was never going to be easy and as we have seen with most legendary coaches save for Coach K and a few others most stay way to long. JB needed to go a few years before he did, as Dasher has noted the situation deteriorated way farther then it should have been allowed to. Red was nearly fired last year and is in a tourney or bust situation so barring a major run the smart money says were looking at a new HC next spring.

As for Fball, I think it's been addressed as much as it can be. The issue is that the circumstances have changed greatly in the D1 landscape from the late 80's to early 2000s seasons of success. SU simply doesn't have the financial cache or ability to spend what they would really want to. They have definitely upped support and salaries to their highest levels ever but SU's never gonna be able to spend like the biggest boys which is very unfortunate but the reality of where we are.

Here's a scenario nobody is talking about.

Donnie Freeman is out for an extended period of time -- if I had to guess, he will miss the entire season.

Wildhack gives him a pass due to extenuating circumstances, and we have another year of this crap.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but the way things have gone lately I wouldn't be shocked.

You make many really good points. At some point, the decision makers on the hill have to be accountable to the community that supports them. For a decade, they have let the program wither. It has been one of the most epic displays of mismanagement in college sports. Unfortunately, IMHO, the only way to turn it around now is to clean house. Sadly, a lot of good folks will lose their jobs, and it didn't have to be this way.

Financially that is suicide.

If they do not go and get a proven winner and settle GMac you loose the rest of the fan base. Jim got one of his assistants. The university spent money to try to make Red successful. If there is not massive improvement time to higher a non SU alum.

I am not disagreeing with you at all.

I just question whether decision makers on the hill, the donors with deep pockets, and JimfromSkaneatles agrees with that...

Basketball is so much more of an easier fix than football. I think everyone gets the football side. The basketball side is entirely our own doing. Too often relationships get in the way of things on the hill over what is best for the University.

You have to move on from this, Freeman is more likely than not missing the rest of the season.

how many commits we have for next year?

Ya normally I would think this is an over reaction lol but I’ve seen enough. I have literally no idea who ISU coach is an he turned them from a 2 win team to a legit program
TJ Otzelberger is was an ncaa tourney hero turned coach. He had established a track record at a mid major, South Dakota State I believe, then UNLV, then Iowa State. He was considered a good hire but his turnaround from that 2 win team was spectacular.

Appreciate the response. My only counter is we’re in an absolutely new world that is changing constantly.

It’s one thing not to be able to spend like the SEC, but I do think there should be an impetus for real change.

We’ve already lost revenue for the decades of football.

At some point someone needs to shake things up.

Again, I know the job isn’t close to being easy. But we can’t keep falling back on being who we are. Either demand and go after greatness or depress the importance of athletics.
