Are we still using the band of misfit toy argument for blowouts / giving up?
You don't think JW wants to win? Might be the most ridiculous thing ever said on this board. And that is saying something.Fire the AD first. Get someone in here that wants to win
I think wants to is definitely true. Knows how to might be the problem. He is a great marketer, not a great “GM”You don't think JW wants to win? Might be the most ridiculous thing ever said on this board. And that is saying something.
I will help you here. JW isn't getting fired, And if we somehow make it in the next round of cuts, JW will have a lot to do with it.I hope the Board of Trustees intervenes and doesn’t allow Wildhack to make any coaching decisions. With Kent retiring at year end I can see JW making a new hire to buy a few more years for himself. Kent isn’t firing the AD on his way out the door.
It’s like an NFL GM firing a coach to save their own butt for a few more years.
Heaven forbid. I don't like our offense. I hated his.Just give Tony Bennett a call after the season if Autry can’t get it done.
Why would we do that? He was fired at Washington. He played zone. Want that back? His offense sucked. We all loved the guy but that ship has sailed.Would it be possible to get Hopkins?
Assuming it doesn’t turn around, Red is axed and SU truly conducts a national search, what do we think the perception is of SU in the coaching community?
1. A sleeping giant with a massive passionate fan base in a recruiting rich area and a brand that, despite the lack of recent success, is still known on a national level, with an iconic building and legacy.
2. A former giant that has faded into mediocrity, stuck in a league that is a terrible fit and seems to be in decline as well (except Duke), in an area of the country that - not trying to make anyone angry — is not the most attractive place to live, without the mega donors who can sustain a consistent top 15 prorgam
3. A program that got incredibly lucky to have the Big East and JB at just the right time, but in reality it was a bit of a miracle and now the current landscape of CBB does not put SU into any sort of competitive advantage.
I know it’s probably some combo of all 3, but I would think scenario 2 is most likely closest to reality. How does that affect the ability to find a great coach in the next cycle?
The choices are too sad to think about. I still believe in Syracuse. But i believe we will end up being very good in football next year. Hoop? Not so much. I just think Fran will do what it takes to win. No matter how brutal. He learned a tough lesson this year. I think Red thinks he already knows what he needs to know. A deadly weakness.Assuming it doesn’t turn around, Red is axed and SU truly conducts a national search, what do we think the perception is of SU in the coaching community?

Hi.
You strokin out on us manI love tacos.
And I love F1 racing.
I cannot disagree enough to this statement.I think wants to is definitely true. Knows how to might be the problem. He is a great marketer, not a great “GM”
My daughter was the grad school rep to the board a few years back. She would agree with you. They care and know what's going on.Do you know any BOT members. I do. They love Syracuse football and basketball as much or more than you do.
Great post and why I still come here to sift through all the stupidity from posters here overreacting. The choices are too sad to think about. I still believe in Syracuse. Yes.You strokin out on us man![]()
The fact that he was a GM at espn is a perfect explanation for why’s he’s done what he’s done. He was really good at making things LOOK good, Fran LOOKS good, Dino LOOKED good, Red LOOKED good. We’ve been in games with big name teams, we’ve been in the big pre season tournaments etc. but we aren’t actually being successful. Hence the GM versus marketer. He makes Syracuse seem like a spot where success can happen, but he can’t actually find a way to make it happen.I cannot disagree enough to this statement.
One, Wildhack is not not ever has been, a marketer. He is a programmer and huge ego dealer-wither. And he was literally MORE than a GM at ESPN.
Second, to move on from Boeheim, the school had - repeat HAD - to promote an assistant or else it would have been an FU to JB.
Now it gets interesting. Autry hasn’t shown much as getting talent in an NIL world is off-the-court driven and Cuse upgraded there. Wildhack has a lame-duck boss with the Chancellor retiring; so Red would have to be astronomically bad to get fired as in repeat last year or go less than .500 in the ACC. Otherwise it gets complicated.
Maybe a child took your phone? One of your posts said, "hi" and the other said "I like tacos. And I like F1 racing."Yes.
It's all about me, not Red's hot seat.
Looking at coaches salaries, it seems we are getting what we paid for. If we move on from Red, I hope we go with a HC either from a lower level or an assistant at a higher level, who has learned good, high IQ system ball, 5 players in constant, coordinated motion, looking for easy shots. Someone who would welcome a raise.
I don’t think there are enough high IQ players coming up through AAU to be successful in a freestyle system like Red is letting his players run. And, its unbearable to watch, without JB there to teach his players how to succeed with it.
Recruit players for the system, whether they can jump through the roof or not, then teach them the system, & demand it be run.
I’m sure they do. Love doesn’t have anything to do with it. It’s HOW to make a successful athletic program that’s the issue. The approach(es) of the last decade plus ain’t working.Do you know any BOT members. I do. They love Syracuse football and basketball as much or more than you do.
Red and the team need to spend more time in the gym and less time with their documentaries and endorsements.
In the meantime, we need to figure out how much it will take to get Pitino away from St. John's.

Not enough NIL for St. John’s apparently!4-3 and just lost to a nepo-baby.
And he was never coming here to begin with.
