Not enough NIL for St. John’s apparently!4-3 and just lost to a nepo-baby.
And he was never coming here to begin with.

I’m not sure how to interpret your last paragraph. It’s pretty much a fact that Red has to make the NCAAT this year to avoid getting fired. There’s not much debate there.I cannot disagree enough to this statement.
One, Wildhack is not not ever has been, a marketer. He is a programmer and huge ego dealer-wither. And he was literally MORE than a GM at ESPN.
Second, to move on from Boeheim, the school had - repeat HAD - to promote an assistant or else it would have been an FU to JB.
Now it gets interesting. Autry hasn’t shown much as getting talent in an NIL world is off-the-court driven and Cuse upgraded there. Wildhack has a lame-duck boss with the Chancellor retiring; so Red would have to be astronomically bad to get fired as in repeat last year or go less than .500 in the ACC. Otherwise it gets complicated.
And based on the last two days, it’s going to be very hard.I’m not sure how to interpret your last paragraph. It’s pretty much a fact that Red has to make the NCAAT this year to avoid getting fired. There’s not much debate there.
The timing might be right. Marquette fans aren't happy with Shaka right now. They feel he should be using the portal more. If Marquette loses to Oklahoma tomorrow their postseason hopes are basically gone.I know he isn’t going to leave and we probably wouldn’t pay for his massive salary to get him out of his current job but Shaka Smart would be perfect
I think he’s overrated here by some tbh. He’s made it out of the first weekend once since he left VCU over a decade ago. His ceiling is about 23 wins and a round of 32 exit. Better than what we have done here in a while, but I’d rather get someone like Skinn or Hodgson. The timing might be right. Marquette fans aren't happy with Shaka right now. And that right there is another problem, the approach is self sanctioningCouple of those guys are DOA with the school and had zero chance of getting the job even if it was open.
Agree, Shaka's ceiling isn't very high. He's a great guy. No one says anything negative about him around here. They play an exciting brand of basketball. I'd go with Hodgson over him or an assistant. And still ranked 16th in Ken Pom. Will never understand the logic of the algorithm.4-3 and just lost to a nepo-baby.

Smart isn't leaving Marquette.I would call
Smart
Hodgson
Mack
On a good team JJ doesn't play 10 minutes if he gets off the bench at all. From 1987 to 90 he doesn't play. And the championship season he doesn't play. Yet on this team he gets major minutes, that tells you Red is in over his head.Smart isn't leaving Marquette.
Hodgson is a good recruiter but has yet to prove anything as a HC, especially this year.
Mack - not sure, especially considering what happened at L'ville
That had more to do with L'ville & FBI investigation if I remember correctly? Mack was 24-8 at Charleston last year & was pretty good coach before Lville messSmart isn't leaving Marquette.

I don’t see the similarities at all.Out of curiosity, why Hodgson?
He seems like a guy some glommed onto a couple of years ago, when he had a more exciting profile, but the results haven't lived up to the billing.
Alabama hasn't missed a beat without him, and his results have been unimpressive as a HC.
He seems very similar to Red -- career assistant, reputation as a solid recruiter, lacking with respect to X's and O's, not a very good offensive coach.
I think we need a guy with a proven track record of success. Skinn makes a lot more sense than trying to reach for unproven guys, IMO. Tried that, and it bombed.

What would ‘lighting it up’ look like to you? How much improvement and how fast before you are impressed?Hence, not exactly what I call lighting it up.
