Fire Autry

Out of curiosity, why Hodgson?

He seems like a guy some glommed onto a couple of years ago, when he had a more exciting profile, but the results haven't lived up to the billing.

Alabama hasn't missed a beat without him, and his results have been unimpressive as a HC.

He seems very similar to Red -- career assistant, reputation as a solid recruiter, lacking with respect to X's and O's, not a very good offensive coach.

I think we need a guy with a proven track record of success. Skinn makes a lot more sense than trying to reach for unproven guys, IMO. Tried that, and it bombed.

I go to a handful of GMU games a year...he's a really good coach, tight system.

Coach or not, I cannot believe how much Syracuse football and basketball has descended since 2003 (football since that Rutgers loss really on or around 1999)

What would ‘lighting it up’ look like to you? How much improvement and how fast before you are impressed?
Make the tournament lol. Anyone hoping Gerry is our next head coach hasn’t been paying enough attention the last 10 years or doesn’t remember what Syracuse basketball is supposed to be.

Just saying there’s too many flavor of the month guys being called out as hires.

Let’s be real the people here don’t want a program builder. They want immediate results. Basically that means when we play this tourney over thanksgiving next year and get 3 top 25 teams in 48 hours we expect wins. I’l know for sure a lot of these names are not doing that.

Imagine we got another start like this next year because there’s no take backs on the hill. Wildhack will be giving the guy minimum 3 years.

I dont know who the answer is right now.

I never tried to argue for Jerry being the next SU coach. Maybe that was earlier in the thread. I am a Siena alum and am very happy with his success there. I couldn’t hope for anything better!

I’m happy for Gerry as well and definitely wish him continued success. My issue with hiring him here isn’t because of him specifically, it’s more of the need to break away from the Boeheim coaching tree for our next hire.

It’s Syracuse and they have to placate boeheim, the boosters and the auxiliary club

Only call will be to Gerry. Mark it down. If he says no and decides JMU is a better job then they’ll give the job to Jim Boeheim jr
Is it bad that I irrationally could see that happening ha.

Right. I mean good lord, Hopkins, Gmac etc I don’t know what it is about “keeping it in the family” that fascinates some people .

It’s a big world.

I can't listen to any more Gerry, Hop talk from now till April.

They will not be getting the job, nor do they deserve it. Pretty cut and dry. If you want Syracuse to go back to being a big-time national brand, fans have to stop thinking like a small-time, regional one.

Did any coach look at Kyle and Jj shoot free throws this summer and think we’re good? Took me one game to realize we are in checkmate. Can’t shoot reliably from field which suggests we play uptempo, however the 2 people we want with ball in hands in uptempo can’t hit the broad side of the barn from line. We’re kinda screwed
100 percent agree. I was like wait what the heck was that; we are totally screwed...again.

It's pretty hilarious that we're one made free throw against Houston away from people singing a very different tune. Certainly hurts to not at least go 1-2 in Vegas.

We're probably making the tournament and if we do Red is not getting fired. The team is better than most of you seem to realize
Hope you are right. But without Donnie there is no way we are even going .500 in ACC. And I'm getting Arinze vibes about Donnie and his foot. Wearing a boot on the same foot where last year he underwent season ending 5th metatarsal fracture repair with hardware implantation is not leaving me feeling warm and fuzzy about his prognosis.

I'm quite optimistic about the team I'm most concerned with how Freeman fits back in. I'm not going so far as to say we are better without Freeman but I do like White and Kyle playing together, and particularly for the Houston matchup I think it helped us.

This is easily Red's best team and if we miss the tournament it would be hard to argue that he should not be fired

I'd go down the road and hire Matt Langel, then give him the budget to hire a stud recruiter.

Uhhhh BYU is a strange example. They have over 30k FTE, the second largest (only to the Dome) on campus arena, a national fan base, and booster with deep, deep pockets.
Syracuse isn’t exactly a poor school, still has 15k students a year, and isn’t in Utah. I’m just saying that complaining that private schools can’t compete is ridiculous.
