Fire Autry

This is just delusional

I just watched this again - and I mean this with all due respect because I am sure he is trying and a nice guy, but how on earth can someone hire this man as a head coach of a high major Division I basketball team?

He is quite literally one of the worst communicators I have ever seen answering questions at a podium and I understand that is not the end all, be all, but it just isn't good. And I will never get it.

He cannot hold a logical conversation and thinks that people believe his bizarre/confusing statements. He can’t even answer questions that he’s asked. He just comes back with random weird statements. No other coach is like this. Even the bad ones make you believe they know what they are talking about in the pressers.

286th in ppg coming into today.
Red isn’t a dummy. He knows the offense isn’t good. He literally ran point for 4 seasons of offenses that were 100X better than this slop.

I just don’t understand why he’s taking that kind of position. Admit what we’re all seeing and talk about fixing it. Or anything but denying it’s an issue.

For those of us who have opportunities to do public speaking/teaching/training from time to time. Saying "right" & "alright" over & over again ONLY communicates lack of confidence or belief in what you're saying. I don't expect every coach to extremely polished or eloquent at the podium, but it just screams lack of belief in what's being said... it's a pretty horrible look.

The saying of 'right' following a point being made is something I have seen more and more of over the last 3-4 years. And it is beyond frustrating.

A lot of academics do this, and it comes off as obnoxious and gives 'know-it-all' vibes. As if they need to persuade you into agreeing with them by continuously saying 'right' in an 'obviously I'm right' sort of tone.

Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt. Seriously delusional if he actually believes that, and if he’s trying to spin the fanbase to believe what he’s saying, it’s disgraceful and not going to work.

This is such a misguided comment. How can we expect to bond over this with our children when WE can’t even get into it. Children will get into it if they see dad excited.

My oldest son is 11. Born the night the 25-0 team lost to BC. He has grown up witnessing the program sink to rock bottom and a community that doesn’t care anymore. That is the nail in the coffin. Nobody cares except the few of us on here.

But sure, we need great final 4 contenders for this to be a family thing. My lord.
Your son cursed the program lol

Here’s how you win:
1. Exceptional talent
2. Designed plays and a structured O
3. Responsive and active defense
4. A little bit of luck

We don’t have #1 - not compared to top-10 programs.
We’re limited on #4.
But Red is failing on 2 and 3. Because he cannot coach. He is not bright (basketball coaching IQ). If that’s a personal attack, so be it. He was a great player. Terrible manager.

So you'll actually be rooting against Syracuse the rest of the season?
It's better for the program in the long run, Autry is terrible as a head coach. How the hell can that man think 30% from the 3 pt line is a "good" offense and nothing wrong with it.

He knows the offense stinks. He's clearly lost on what to do about it. What do the assistants do on this team? Does he take input? He's too testy too early. Come February these pressers could be dynamite. And keep in mind this is the tamest press corps in the country.

Why can’t we can him mid season? Red stinks. I don’t care he’s an alumni. This is the issue w SU. We are more concerned w upsetting jim
Boeheim than trying to salvage a season w supposed talent.

I’m sick of all the perceived feelings in the SUAD.
JB doesn’t
Care. He wanted Gerry anyway

What’s to be gained by firing him now? Besides the dopamine hit some folks will get.

The expectation is that we make the tourney this season. Hard to achieve that if you fire the coach of a 7-4 team coming off a win.

This isn’t about “feelings”. It’s about letting a coach try to achieve the performance criteria that was laid out to him by his boss. We’re not even half way through the season and haven’t played a single conference game.

Look, I don’t think Autry is a good coach. I can’t see how he gets this team to the tourney. But it’s fine to let this thing play out another 3 months.

Three months.

I agree. It literally makes no sense. Who would you even have take over mid-season. The goal was the tournament and he is highly unlikely to make that. He will be let go when the season ends. We will hire someone else and they probably won't be a Boeheim person so I'm not sure what half this board will complain about. My larger issues is how good of a program are we. We don't have NIL because I don't think we have the wealthy people willing to write checks. That isn't going to change IMO. We had a coach who was really good at having a system that worked and recruiting to it. I don't think Red is the answer but I don't think he is the only problem by a long shot. I think it's a long time before we are good again.

I was waiting for this stupid post. There is no NIL excuse this year like their was last year. We increased our salary cap a large amount last offseason. The talent recruited here was still in the top 10-20 of most all recruiting services this past offseason. There's 5 former top 50 HS players on the roster FFS. That is more than we had in 2013. I personally would have cut bait with a current player, but reasonable minds can disagree.

We have multiple transfers playing worse for us than they did at their previous stops and those stops weren't Delaware or Hofstra who by the way had the best player on the court the other night. And we aren't playing hard enough.

Syracuse doesn't fire coaches mid season in any sport, you know this. Doesn't matter if he's al alumni or not. Also this has nothing to do with JB, he has almost no involvement anymore and zero with the AD's office. Again it's tourney or bust for Red people just need to sit back and let the season play out.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but there is a first for everything. Though, that window where it would make sense to make Dan Engelstad the interim to me is closing. Once ACC play starts you let it play out no matter what. But if your going to cut ties you do it before Clemson. The quality of play has decreased significantly since Tennessee.
