For those are already to move on from Red

Keep in mind that the AD needs to find $20MM in direct payments to athletes and fund 60-100 additional scholarships ( out of 211 additional allowed in the sports in our portfolio) beginning in July. Only two potential approaches: Cut costs or increase revenue.
I am sure we are not alone.
Wrong. Allowed scholarships will increase but they are not mandatory and need not be filled. And it is all dependent on a not yet approved court settlement.

Not wrong. That's why I estimated we will use some, not all of the allotted scholarships within our portfolio of sports. And I probably follow issues with House v. NCAA as closely as anyone on this board. Ask our Athletics Director if he feels these aspects of House will be enacted. We are planning on institutiong direct payments in July 2025.

If you want to be competitive in your major sports you will maximize direct paymaents to players (we will) and allow coaches to optimize their rosters using as many of the allowable scholarshios they feel they need to, It doesn't take a Nobel Prize winner in Mathematics to see that Fran is recruiting to the 105 limit.

Yep. Red is operating under the same assumption that direct payments are around the corner

Any idea if this is this expected to help close the NIL gap as all teams will be operating under the same set budget? Or is this in addition to the current madness and the collectives will continue to need funding?

We took a bus to NY last week. We will take a bus there to play Maryland in a couple of weeks.
Plan is to take a bus to B.C. and Pitt. That sound like a school that is flush with cash to but
out a coach?
If the university is that financially strapped that it has to tap donors to pay for team charters, maybe it’s time to exit the big time athletics business?

I do have a question though. If the whole NIL thing does not kick in until next year, or beyond, why is it impacting this year’s travel budget?

As somebody who has worked with student athletes at a few different institutions, including SU and WVU which has a special reputation on this board, my experience is that this could not be farther from the truth.
Exactly. Athletes have access to excellent academic support. More structured than the average student. There’s too much $ at stake.

Nothing has to be cut if Johnny student flunks out. Heads roll if Kyle McCord ends up ineligible.

I’d take the collective GPA of all athletes > the general student population.

No 22 year old should have back issues due to busses. That’s a weak excuse by him.

I'm sorry, but don't play that card. SU sports is among the top 10 in revenue for hoops.
How they spend their money is their business.

I only know what I know and in this case, it isn't much. I do know this much. The hoop program does not want to bus. At all.

Well then, maybe Red ought to win some games, so he has more leverage with Wildhack.

There are supposed to be some provisions that will make NIL deals more transparent and ensure payments are more aligned with services rendered. Color me skeptical. And don’t look at the $20.5MM as a salary cap. That’s just what the schools can pay. Businesses and individuals can still transact beyond that. But many programs are actually bringing their preferred collectives in house to help facilitate the direct payments. I suspect SU is having those discussions right now.

We could just purchase our own bus if we haven't done so already. With regard to gym equipment, leasing is the way to go so that you can update from time to time.

Most schools will operate based on that cap. The usual ones will go above and beyond. NIL will still exist on top but I’d expect ours to be relatively small compared to the big guys. We will still be better off than where we are now though. There is such a massive difference between the top ten to 20 and everyone else. And it’ll get worse with the media deals.

I think they should buy the hospicemobile from UpstateSM.

I bet they’d get a good price.

He seemed to have major buyers remorse once we were no longer going to be undefeated.

Perhaps he’ll even donate it?

Look no further than JAB.

He allowed it and did nothing to keep momentum going.

However — Autry can complain about all of these things - STILL no reason to be in two possession games with Colgate, Cornell, and LeMoyne.

Both things can be true.
Right. He could lose to them, like JB did.

I've traveled on to road trips on a college basketball team bus, and I've done so on a plane. Not even close to a push. Bus is awful.

That said, we're sacrificing comfortable and efficient travel so unremarkable 20-year-old basketball players can make solid salaries? What's the point, burn it down.
I have taken bus, plane, train, to mid-town. Bus to Port Authority beats them all. 4-4.5 hours, and done. I imagine the team isn’t riding a greyhound.. Guess what they would take from JFK. A 45 minute bus ride.

Maliq leaving had zero to do with quadir if anything Taylor leaving would have had more effect. I’d say majority of athletes fall in the barely eligible.
Statistically l, student athletes graduate at a higher rate and have higher GPAs than non-athletes. You have to try to suck.

I said it a couple days ago, people don’t realize how far behind this program is when it comes to these things. A huge donor yesterday told me “NIL or die” and the main focus is getting players and spending money on them. Unfortunately this is reality when spending goes elsewhere. Melo center becoming outdated. Workout equipment outdated. I’m currently working with my brother to get them treadmills from this decade. So when people go nuts about Red and the coaching, I look at how much the program is lacking and the loudest complainers are usually the cheapest. Welcome to the NIL world

Because a lot of our fan base are re tards who dont actually know stuff like this and scream from their couches like they are coaching their own fantasy team. It drives me crazy
Everything about our hoops NIL, various funding, facilities, and the like is all cloak and dagger nonsense.

Don’t rip the “fan base” for not being keenly aware of this stuff when no one is publicly talking about this stuff.

How the hell is anyone supposed to know the state of our NIL when even the insiders here won’t address it transparently?

How are people supposed to have sympathy for these supposed massive obstacles that Autry is facing if he, you guys, and everyone else that’s connected won’t talk about it and have the media to write about it?

I’m pretty exhausted by the “I know things that you dummies don’t know” routine that goes on here.

Either spill the beans or stop vague posting about his stupid everyone is.

Like I mentioned in another post we are behind in everything and have been for a while. That goes for almost everything in the program. Our facilities used to be a strength but now it is falling behind. We are short in every area of the program now. NIL Budget, Coaching, Facilities, Style of Play, Hype or Swag whatever they call it now days, Player Development, Talent Evaluations, Transfer Portal to cover weaknesses in the team, I could go on and on it is bad we are way behind. We are slowly becoming irrelevant.

The problem is transparency and the willingness to talk openly about it.

Also if hiring anyone but Red would have upset the boosters and alums then tell those same people to open up their checkbooks even more. If they want Red to succeed then they need to step up even more. I for one thought that we needed desperately to go outside the family for fresh eyes and fresh life but with that being said you can't fire him after two seasons unless the team really bottoms out.

Talking down to message board members for not being major donors is not the way and telling members to shut up about it because we aren't donating money is dumb.
