Future Campus Framework Discussion

The Syracuse.com article says Southwest corner of the intersection so I assume it is the University North and University South season ticket holder parking lots. Losing more tailgating space near the dome:(
Which will impact everyone in Harrison as all those folks will move to that lot

So this lot is gone I assume? It's a fine location for people traveling for games and that's all I care about. We need the rooms.

Rooms nearby are desperately needed.

Just traveling up from the Binghamton area we tend to stay if it’s a late game or a really early game. Just cuts that hour drive out before or after the game.

A lot of times we have to stay a little further away and have often wished we could stay within walking distance of the dome.

Obviously adult beverages are consumed by myself and my wife and we just would prefer not to worry about who is going to drive etc after the games.

This is from before the reno, but shows the space I'm talking about. Excavate out where the street lights are and build a second one. Maybe a little smaller. Most people coming from RAY/IAG/FINE/WEST are using one of those two staircases, same with a lot of the indy lots and folks brave enough to street park on the south side. It needn’t block the loading dock and could still leave room for the bus stop on the street.View attachment 247308
Agree there is plenty of space there. But the sport that has the most events is basketball. And expanding the north concourse does little to help make the gameday experience for basketball fans better.

It would make a huge impact for basketball (men's and women's) and of course, would help for football and lacrosse as well.

On the west side, you could expand the lower and upper concourses, expand the locker rooms, and make entering and leaving the dome far easier via escalators and/or elevators.

Opening up the western wall to sunlight with a glass exterior wall would really make the venue feel more open (along with the huge additional open spaces). It would be a hugely popular improvement to the game experience if funds can be found to make it happen.
Exactly. I think the pie in the sky, money is no object plan was also to build a huge concourse extension/grand entrance/restaurants and concessions area/possible hotel all along that western Irving side of the Dome. But that was many years or decades ago. It would make so much sense if they could find the money or use the hotel to finance it. Maybe start smaller and leave room for expansion if it’s a success? But happy to see the Miron Court extension get built though it still doesn’t solve the packed concourses issue.

Why dont they build something on college place between it and comstock.
I knows its a walkway but its a huge area that could be developed into something

More parking disappearing. Building a new 200 room hotel at Harrison and University.

So a year ago SU decides to close a hotel. A year later realizing that trustees don't dig paying big bucks over big weekends, they decide to build this one. I'm assuming this will be limited meeting and dining space.

The move to having all tailgating on South Campus continues?

i think it was all part of the plan long term but got shifted because of more students commiting than expected.

Honestly, the rooms at the sheraton are meh so i'd rather students have them and we can have something nicer as visitors.

Selfishly, this sucks for myself and my group. We’ve been parking in the University North lot the past two years and made some good friends there. I really don’t want to get pushed up the hill to Manley or Skytop

Bye Bye Harrison Lot...I wonder if it will be gone this Fall?

Given the scope of the project, I could see both Harrison and Lehman lot being occupied by this new property.

I’ve heard good things about the North Manley crew. People have used words like handsome, buff, brilliant. And that’s just David321 !!

I’m sure the people up there are great. After attending approximately 200 basketball/football games since 2011, I’ve really enjoyed the walk up University Ave going to the Dome. It’s become part of my normal game day experience that even with a loss is enjoyable. For me, having to take a shuttle to or from the Dome will dampen the game day experience.

You can walk from North Manley to the Dome. There is a shortcut too.

TM is right. We walk right through oakwood with a roadie in hand. Only 10 minutes tops. But, I agree, it’s not ideal. I got moved from Alibrandi right across the street from Maggie’s when they built the building or parking garage. I can’t remember which. I’ve been “banished” to North Manley since 2002. But we’ve grown to LOVE our spot and embrace it.

I have a feeling my acreage is gonna be in higher demand soon.

No room for parking there. Barely enough room for a hotel. And if they built it there, there wouldn’t have been enough room to expand the concourses and make a meaningful improvement to the dome.

This was a good decision.

Agreed, the only hotel that would have worked right next to the dome would have been a very small like posh hotel which wouldn't help SU's needs at all and parking would still be an issue. There really is no good place right around the Dome for a hotel at this point which is unfortunate but the reality of the situation.

There is a solution to this.

SUNY Forestry needs to relocate to South Campus.

Let's do a land swap. We take their campus and use it to build a second quad, and add some parking. Use some of the existing parking to expand the campus further. Can finally expand the dome on the north and south sides and make it a world class facility.

ESF takes over most of the South Campus Skytop area. They get a bunch of much needed space and the room to expand they desperately need. The stumpies can plant lots of trees and do their pagan tree worshiping dances in privacy.

Win win for everyone.

You could turn the dome suites into rooms for a hotel.

Sure you have to be out on Game days a bit early and gone all afternoon.

But quick access to the tailgate spots.

There’s actually more room than you think. You have the entire street including the parking lot below Crouse College of Performing Arts.

True but I don't think SU is looking to put a hotel in there, that lot would have to go and I believe it's used fairly regularly not to mention it would be a pretty odd set up and probably more costly then where they want to build now. That said if they absolutely had to have one close that's probably the one area that would in theory work.

Why would Harrison be gone? The Hotel site is across the street.
