Future Campus Framework Discussion

This is from before the reno, but shows the space I'm talking about. Excavate out where the street lights are and build a second one. Maybe a little smaller. Most people coming from RAY/IAG/FINE/WEST are using one of those two staircases, same with a lot of the indy lots and folks brave enough to street park on the south side. It needn’t block the loading dock and could still leave room for the bus stop on the street.

That's where the hotel is going.

Yup, I think the space is awesome.

Hope they can find a big sponsor to do the west side as well.

The Dome is starting to feel like a big boy stadium
North side is probably more realistic if they want more. There is plenty of space there.

Wonder if that's actually possible. You could do some really cool things...though it'd only be usable for a few football games a year and probably not worth it. You're better off doing something on west end connecting to falk that you can monetize for basketball too.
Better views too.

I thought it was great. Not sure what you mean by "hard to use". I enjoyed the space very much. I got multiple drinks. Hung out there for a while. Loved it.
I thought it was about 20% less congested than the 300s concourse. Easy to get into, Getting past the people to the food drink not so easy. Tables were scattered around so no real clear path. Working thru the crowd to find they had no food was no fun either.

Would be very tricky because that is the big load-in/out area for the football trucks and probably concerts to an extent. Could see something off Crouse Drive where Gate D is.

The argument against that is a more accessible loading dock could be designed underneath the new addition. The team trucks are currently unloaded using ramps to the sidewalk outside.

Love it. Hope they can make it happen. FYI I know many years ago Pete Sala was keenly aware the West side of the Dome had expansion potential.

That rumor has been debunked by others on here.

I think the hotel thing was tongue in cheek about all the rumors.

And anyway, right now SU (and all the other developers in the city) are in the business of turning existing hotels into apartments let alone building new ones. Easy way to make more student housing and/or cash in on state aid for increasing housing.

Agree there is plenty of space there. But the sport that has the most events is basketball. And expanding the north concourse does little to help make the gameday experience for basketball fans better.

It would make a huge impact for basketball (men's and women's) and of course, would help for football and lacrosse as well.

On the west side, you could expand the lower and upper concourses, expand the locker rooms, and make entering and leaving the dome far easier via escalators and/or elevators.

Opening up the western wall to sunlight with a glass exterior wall would really make the venue feel more open (along with the huge additional open spaces). It would be a hugely popular improvement to the game experience if funds can be found to make it happen.

Street level you have to go up maybe 4-5 flights of stairs to get the 100 level gates, that end of the dome is perched on a relatively steep hill which they'd have to build into.

That walk is pretty windy and cold which is the big selling point of IAG and the catwalk. It'd be real tempting to duck in there and get a beer or coffee or whatever instead of hoofing it up the cold stairs.

Downside is RAY and FINE are already huge tailgate destinations and so it'd be competing a little bit.

I think it'd be possible if they had planned for the potential expansion. I noticed the columns in there are really thick, they may well have.
RAY and FINE won’t be there forever.

I’d like to see it named after Micron just for the confusion factor.

Yup your points are the same I made myself when the West side came up in discussion before. On paper it's a perfect location for another "court' set up but the logistics would make any addition there while feasible very expensive and likely out of SU's price range for the considerable future. That's before taking into account that area is where they load in and out equipment, visiting team exits amongst other aspects.

Would be nice to get a 100 level version but outside of maybe re-doing or expanding Club 44 I think people are setting themselves up for disappointment with a 2nd version of the victory court anytime soon.

Don't disagree with that. Add some orange in there.

Small issue is it's slicker than concrete, so if someone spills a drink in there it could be hazardous.
Or tracking in snow especially during hoops season

Agree. Funding for new sports related facilities is very low on the priority list once the work at Manley is done.

If I win one of those big powerball lottery,

The "njneer12 west concourse" at the JMA Dome will be an amazing addition! (And with more than 1 secret bathroom than MVC that's not really a secret anymore haha)

And tracking in snow. Lots of slips

One of them will be. SU has to have parking for the law school dorm that's right there. They can't lose both lot's won't work.

And those lots are also used year round by students and faculty that commute. When I was a grad student I parked in RAY every day except gamedays when my student pass was no good.

I know they'll build something there sooner or later but the spots are likely to be offset by a new parking structure at least. I guess I'll have to buy an electric griddle and an EV with an outlet to power it when that happens, no flame in the garages for tailgating.
