Future Campus Framework Discussion

Just as long as there’s a shuttle bus to Wegmans and another one to the Turning Stone.
You guys might know this better than me, but I was reading that they run shuttle buses to the amphitheater on concert nights. That's a great idea if they do. They do nothing like that in Albany as far as running shuttles up to SPAC or the Saratoga Race Track. Shuttles are a great idea for people that don't drive anymore or don't want to be bothered. As is Uber and Lyft.

I swear half of Syracuse's old farts are dancing and golfing at The Villages.

I saw a golf cart modified to look like a Syracuse Fire Truck.

Edit: I found it

Wow - Must be an ex Syracuse Fireman that has this I would imagine. Just looked it up and over 151,565 people live in the Villages. It’s bigger than Syracuse and almost twice as big as Schenectady.

Googled and found this. Census data confirms The Villages growing older and whiter

I think it is well over 100K now

You’re right. I guess when I first googled an older census must have popped up. I changed the numbers on my post to be more accurate. Thank you.

That is an Urban Legend but funny

First, let me preface this by saying the new facilities are absolutely amazing. The newest renovation certainly brings the program on par with most of college football. I was able to get a tour the other day and i was pretty blown away. Major upgrades to the locker room, and definitely the training room. as well as some nice touches throughout, like the refueling station outside the weight room and right when you come in from outside. All that, plus, the brand new football performance center for hosting recruits, boosters, visitors, etc. It’s also cool how they can order whatever food they want and the chefs will be prepared to make it. Now they can say they have every and anything every school can offer. Other than that how many arcade games is enough and is a putt-putt course really necessary?

With that said the one complaint I have, which ultimately isn’t a big deal seeing what they added, is that I wish the new Lally complex was built next to and connecting to the IPF. That way everything is in one place. Football would be on its own island and they wouldn’t have to walk through the parking lot to the practice fields. I know some may be reading this and thinking how they used to walk from Manley to practice, but this is a new age. I get how the Lally complex is supposed to be for all student athlete’s, but now it’s kind of jammed in there looking all hodgepodge. Almost all school have their IPF connected to facilities and then their IPF opening to practice fields. I would have given everything a 10 if they did that.

Still amazing stuff and thank you to the Lally’s for their generous donation.

I couldn’t agree more. Thank you to all the donors, especially the Lally family, but SU didn’t have the foresight to plan this well at all and I’ve been saying so since the IPF thread (I think that just happened like last week in this current board time warp). Again, glad something got done, but hodgepodge is a good word. I don’t think it will matter much, but as an architect, it offends my planning sensibilities.

Bring on the stilettos

What did you expect when the previous two chancellors, Buzz and the Queen, didn't give a s--t about football.

I used to always like "why is Clemson building a wiffle park field" or the other random things these football teams add.
To me it is a way for the team to bond or compete in something else and to just blow off steam.
Keeps the players at the facilities longer which could lead to some extra film study, workouts, etc.
I do think you need a limit on these sort of things but a few scattered in is a pretty solid idea.

Total guess and not saying it makes sense, but perhaps they factored in the price of moving the FH and soccer fields and decided against that when building the new football facilities? Not sure why they didn’t put the IPF where the FH field is originally and simply move that over a bit.
