That was almost half a century ago. I was a few months old at the time. Don’t you think the landscape of college basketball has changed a bit since then? The landscape of the entire world even.
The big name Coach could also strangle his GF (Beard), or have a murderer and prob accessory to murder as his best player (Oates), or have a program basically aligned with a brothel for recruiting (Pitino), or Have wired conversations of payments (Miller) (this one is no biggie to me) or Get in shoving matches with the opposing coach (Howard).

Or you just take the less experienced HC, but known commodity good character guy. If Im AD and making the biggest hire of my career and future, I am going with the known commodity and someone in the family. You realize that message board vote is prob going to be opposite the stance of the normal fan who will love to keep it in house cause that whats they know of Cuse hoops

I also ask how much can we put on any of the assistant coaches with recruiting when JB is 78 and should be finishing . Seems like they get guys close. Also we don't know how much JB is holding back NIL and transfers... Also if the assistants switch up defense to their own preference.

I'm a less experienced, good character guy. I shouldn't be hired to be the next HC.

Hiring anyone on the current staff is an utter failure of imagination.

You hire someone on staff for continuity.

We don't want to continue our recent results.

It's really simple.

That said, if we have to have a sacrificial lamb internal hire fail, let's get it going so we can move on.

Your points are the epitome of anecdotal evidence.

Following your logic, though, we kept in the family with JB and went on probation twice. Not to mention all of the off-court incidents with several players over the years.

I know the programs are on different levels but I think we can take something positive from the assistant coach searches Wildhack has spearheaded for the football program. Both times (Anae/Beck and Rocky Long) the hires were better than we expected to say the least and a bit outside the box too. That could be a sign he won't be willing to just hadn't the reins to an Autry/Gmac/Hop hire.

Even though they were SU people his HC hires for women’s bball, women’s lax and men’s lax all appear to be great hires. I’m comfortable with whomever he decides on.

i'm surprised people have such clear opinions on gmac and autry...I personally have no clue how either would do as a HC and not sure how anyone does.

IF they wanna just continue with the same system as JB and play the 2-3 etc, then, yeah, I'm not down with them taking over...

but if they are ready to do their own thing...they've paid dues and bleed orange...i'd be down to give them a shot...

I dont think anything we've seen over the last 10 seasons reflects on anyone other than JB...I dont think the assisttants are responsible for decisions JB has made and makes...they have very little autonomy or input, imo

but i could be wrong.

I think it’s also difficult to judge their recruiting and talent evaluation abilities either. We have no idea if they had looked at kids that JB simply said no to, or didn’t help adequately to pull in.

Just so you know, you are wrong. In addition it's already been stated that neither would run zone as their primary D.

I don’t know who SU will hire, and as fans we aren’t going to have a say in the decision. That’s the way it should be. This program is very important to all the players who played here. The thing they all have in common is JB. You do not want to lose the support of former players. You saw what that did to SU football. If you go outside the program, that’s a risk. To bring in an outside coach and lose all three assistants, that will be a huge risk to the SU family. I do know this about GMAC. He is very driven and has an amazing amount of passion for the game and for SU. He understands the game and can relate to todays players. Watching him on the sideline, you can see this is eating him up. There is no succession plan if you don’t hire from within. From what I‘ve witnessed, I’d rather have Red or GMAC over Hop. I love Hop, but his in game coaching is very suspect and his recruiting has not been good at Washington the past four years. He’s also gone almost entirely to zone defense. You can’t play 100% zone in todays game. To have any chance, you have to have five studs on the floor. Its all about getting into the “League” with todays players and they don’t see zone as a way to get there. With the portal there is no excuse for down years. You better do your homework and be prepared to reload every year. I don’t think SU offers enough money to keep a hot coach here for the long term. A quick jump to another program is always a huge risk. If one of our assistants have success, they will stay.

Court still th same size, ball still the same size, hoop is 10 feet high and not wider. Not sure todays players are more skilled ir bigger or faster than in 1976. I knew the players in 76 and the 76 SU squad could go head to head with acc scchools

Lets assume it happens.

Ultimately, GMAC is a cuse guy through and through, etc.

Forget about what the results could/would be.

At its core...Would you be ok with it?
No zone or I should definitely should say no zone without any adjustments meaning no 40 minutes of that s*** every single game

Question: If Hop pinky promised JW in his interview that he would play m2m more than 50% of the time, would that change anyone's mind about him as the next coach?
Not mine. His program at Washington has went backwards.

i mean im not saying they would be good (or bad) I just dont know how anyone would know if they'd be good or bad.

it's very likely they wouldnt be good...

but how do you know?

I think that Gmac would make a great head coach. He loves the school the area has an enormous amount of energy and out of Hop Red and G might just be the best choice. Because of Red being the associate head coach and todays PC world it won't happen. Red will most likely be named the next coach and my money is on Jim timing his retirement such that it will be very difficult to hire anyone other than Red or Gmac.

I agree that Gmac could be a great coach down the line. PC has nothing to do with it. Red is way more qualified.

I think that Gmac would make a great head coach. He loves the school I’m sure Red does too. the area Again…Red too?has an enormous amount of energy I don’t know what that even means…all these guys do their jobs and work hard and out of Hop Red and G might just be the best choice. Maybe, maybe notBecause of Red being the associate head coach and todays PC world oh, BS. The more experienced coach that’s higher on the totem pole getting it is not “PC”. it won't happen. Red will most likely be named the next coach and my money is on Jim timing his retirement such that it will be very difficult to hire anyone other than Red or Gmac.
