Where do you rank Gmacs recruiting when it comes to the three assistants?

Tough call between he and Red for very different reasons.

What are Gerry's advantages over Red? Honest question because I can't think of one.

He seems to recruit far more players. I don’t know if it’s him or JB but he’s spread too thin. Seems every cycle he’s got 80% of the guys and almost all of the top end guys. His problem like red and Griff is what are we selling? Even some guys we don’t get like Stewart have spoken highly of Gmac and even said they felt bad telling Gerry. Is that Gerry’s fault or the “program”?

Question: If Hop pinky promised JW in his interview that he would play m2m more than 50% of the time, would that change anyone's mind about him as the next coach?
I think an assurance that he would win more than 50% of the time might be more meaningful. I seriously cannot understand the preoccupation with a coach who is about to be fired elsewhere. No. He won’t recruit. The notion that recruiting is just a translatable skill you pack in a suitcase is ridiculous.

I've heard that before. Isn't the basic theory that the great players have some difficulty relating to players who the game doesn't come quite as easily to? And also that average players have to rely more on their intelligence as opposed to strictly their athletic ability?
I think evidence could lead to that conclusion. My theories:
1) more average players go into coaching because great players have better options/don’t need the money.
2) things come more easily to great players so they have a hard time/get frustrated teaching lesser talents.

Back to the title of this thread.
I have no idea whether G-Mac would be a successful head coach.

But I do know he is a flat out winner.
That's his personality...not merely his playing ability.
That trait alone provides hope that he wouldn't settle for anything less than winning.
Jim Boeheim is the definition of a winner, until he wasn’t. There is way more to coaching than a heck of a lot of “want to”!

Someone already posted this:

“scrappy, gritty, clutch, lunchpail kinda guy, who left it all out on the court, gym rat, student of the game, kinda of kid you'd want your daughter to date, coach on the floor”
Student of the game who, if rumors are to be believed, could not be bothered to work on his craft during the summers.

Hiring GMac because he made six 3-pointers in a game once would be like the Yankees hiring Aaron Boone because he hit a Home Run once.
But he didn’t score 31 points in one half in an NCAA game.

I was watching the Uconn-St Johns game today because I had a small wager on it and I got to thinking. We need to make a major hire preferably a big name. St. Johns who beat us this year falls to 17-13 and there is talk that Mike Anderson will be fired (nearly identical record to SU btw). I got to imagine their first call is to Rick Pitino and if they land him, that's now another program our at least name brand coach, we have to compete with in recruiting. Hurley, the clown that he is, has been running circles around our staff and his team might run us off the floor if matched up this year (they scored 95 today).

SU needs to make a splash to re-establish the brand and get recruits to take notice. Neither Autry or Gmac do that. Remains to be seen what happens with Neptune at Nova but I think Capel is off the hot seat, Seton Hall is set with Holloway and Maryland w Willard, that SU will have its work cut out for them competing against even those schools in our recruiting radius, who many deem beneath us.

Remember just because you were a winner as a player, or happen to be currently on the bench, that doesn't make you automatically qualified to be the CEO/Owner of the program. Need to hire someone with a proven track record. Period.

They cannot question mark I am assuming that you're talking about getting rid of boehiem Maybe? Exclamation point I would gladly like to hear your opinion on why they cannot get rid of band because this ought to be good there's never any rationale to it it's just some guys opinion that this guy should be allowed to go out any way he wants regardless of what he does to the program in the present and the future in how many years to come and we're not even talking about realignment yet and the repercussions of that so just say that he cannot be fired it's just stupid because you are pretty much risking everything because if we don't have a basketball program if we're left behind we obviously will not have a football program so we will have crappy basketball or just a big huge question mark and Lacrosse to look forward to. See I just don't think people think this through or they're just not very bright because I mean it's so obvious
number one- to people how do people realize how much money we have actually probably lost this season due to people just not coming because they know what to expect and that's not a good thing, it's not even meters mediocrity anymore it's just plant flat out being embarrassed most of the time and our brand slipping further and further and further While others close to us are gaining and this is very reminiscent of football and what happened there so if they let this happen again twice then they all should be just kicked out the door immediately because obviously the only thing they have at their best interest is their freaking pockets because it ain't Syracuse Athletics

Remember right after Hopkins left, Boeheim gave McNamara a ton of the high profile recruits. Seemingly trying to groom him for the job. He whiffed on them all — who knows if it was his fault or the lack of the head coach involvement. Regardless, our recruiting hasn’t been the same since Hop left. There’s a reason for that.
NO. Who were they?

But he didn’t score 31 points in one half in an NCAA game.
On opening night of the 2025-2026 season, the Carrier Dome PA announcer will say for the first time “and the Syracuse Orange are coached by Gerry McNamara.”

Unsure if this response is sarcastic, ironic, or obtuse.
I would say that this is pretty much up front and just a normal response of me being appreciative of his understanding. Do us all a favor stop trying to be funny or witty because it doesn't suit you.
I try to be fair with every message that I get as of late and I read this thinking that okay maybe there is some sarcasm or irony I don't know but this is so straightforward that I can't believe I'm even responding to this but so be it

Somebody must know how to manipulate this thing or it's the one who runs the site because I don't remember ever saying that message or typing that message. I mean that's just some kind of way to like perceive me as being out of my mind or stupid obviously LOL but I have no idea what the hell that is

You know any good zenith tv repairmen in CNY?
I'm sorry but I mean there's only one response to this because the microphone might screw up some of the things I say and I don't go back to fix grammar because you would get the gist of what I'm saying you

meaning people are reading it and with this douchey response that just means you have nothing to say, so

another way of saying that in short is that you know nothing or not as much as you think you do because it's pretty obvious when someone has nothing to say they deflect what stupid stuff like that.
