LSU penalties alone made the final score way closer than the game ever was. you saw that right ?
The D play and the crowd noise helped LSU in making those penalties. Part of the game. Syracuse was in LSU's head from the first series and only allowed 7 points at the half. If the O could have done something in the first half, the scores could be flipped. But IFS don't count, only what actually happens, in this case LSU allowed Syracuse D into their collective heads.

I hope this game represents a turning point in the growth and evolution of Shafer as a coach away from the reflexive ultra conservatism we're seen, and not simply feeling like the team was overmatched and he had nothing to lose.
That's a fair statement.

How big is that USF game in two weeks? Need to keep building program momentum!!!

Yep, huge game! First away game. Hopefully we have Dungey back. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic but I don't think you can expect Mahoney to play as well as he did in the second half. Even still, he made lots of mistakes. This was a lightning in a bottle-type situation. We can't expect to win with Mahoney at the helm and we can't expect the defense to display the level of focus and intensity they did today next time they go out there. Of course, if Dungey does make it back for USF, we also can't expect him to just pick up where he left off. There will be rust and there may even be some mental obstacles to overcome after coming back from that type of hit.

Actually, I expect Mahoney to play better. His worst problem was the ankle throws - I think those go away in the near future.

Agreed 100%. He got better throughout both games he played in.

I hope like hell Dungey is back and healthy, but if he's not 2 weeks of practice with the 1st unit plus the experience he has gained both with an OT game winning drive and hanging with the Big Cats will only make Mahoney a better QB. Lets say he dominates a pretty weak looking USF team. QB controversy?

Fair enough. I think he has a very limited ceiling. There are good reasons why he's a walk-on. He's the kind of kid who could win at Elmhurst but not on a regular basis at this level. I'll happily eat crow if I'm wrong.

Those fans need to suck it up. He's 106-29 with a nat'l title. Imagine being upset!

Same thing with all the cuse fans who get upset with boeheim. They'd probably tell our hoop board crazies to suck it up.

How many future NFL guys do we have on our offense.

sounds like you have a beef with the coaching staff and recruiters and not with me.
I don't know and neither do you.

never held a lead and lost by ten . yeah ok great game. whatever.

I mostly agree - think he will have trouble holding on to the 2nd spot next season.

As my grandfather would say, some men could find a way to bitch with a tit in their mouth.

We played a helluva game, well coached, and close enough to make us all feel like if we had Dungey, we might've won. Overall a great experience from which any number of great positives can be taken, it just didn't have the desired result on the scoreboard.

Just as importantly, being the the Dome today felt like old times. Loud crowd, exciting game against a top opponent, big plays, an SU team that fought hard the entire game. Oh yeah, we lost. Big deal. More games like that, and we will have more fans behind this team -- and we won't need folks like some of the people on this board.

Just watched Shafer's post-game press conference.
I respect the out of how much he wears his heart on his sleeve...talking about how much he wanted this win for his team and the Syracuse community.
It's hard to watch him speak like that and not feel that bit of inspiration in SU football.

He's definitely a better option than Wilson.
