Definitely going to throw it back on at the gym this afternoon. Looking forward to it.I stayed up last night and listened to it straight through. Today I’m doing some repeated listening to the ones that have stood out to me so far.
My early feelings are that this is better than the album last summer.
Nah, I didn’t check out the stream. I’ll check it out when some music gets released. Whenever that is, lol.Definitely going to throw it back on at the gym this afternoon. Looking forward to it.
You check out the Donda stream last night? I know you’re not a huge fan of him, but he’s got a track on there - I think it’s called “Jesus Lord”, 11 minutes long, with Jay Electronica and Jadakiss… up there with Runaway as one of his greatest (imo).
As a hip hop head, if there’s a track on there to make sure you listen to when the album drops in 2040, that’s the one.
Man, to hang out with those dudes for a night...
How did I miss Fat Joe's drop? What did you think of Benny's? I think it's solid as usual. Nas didn't really get me like I hoped, a lot like most of King's Disease, but definitely not bad.Loving that Boldy James/Alchemist - Bo Jackson album. Might be my favorite of the year so far.
I enjoyed that new Fat Joe for what it was, but it got pulled off streaming really quick. I would guess sample clearance issues, because that one had some really famous and obvious samples on it that must cost a ton to get cleared.
Yeah, agreed on Nas. I need to listen to Benny’s more. Been playing Boldy so much, I haven’t really listened to it beyond the first listen. How did I miss Fat Joe's drop? Interesting. Yeah all I pretty much do is Spotify and it didn't even pop up like a new release usually does when it's a heavy rotation for me, which Joe is definitely that. That brings another interesting topic I'd like to hear everyone chime in on. What format do you listen to your music on? I'd like to hear some good options as I'm definitely not up on that.Yeah, agreed on Nas. I need to listen to Benny’s more. Also really liked Tanya Morgan-Von and Don and have played that a ton, but most probably don’t know them as they’ve never really gotten big. Always put out music that I like though.
That Fat Joe was up on Spotify...I listened in the car. Then the next day when I went to revisit it was gone. It was a fun album, IMO. It’s called “What Would BIG Do?”. I don’t even see it available to buy on iTunes either. It is on YouTube.
I’m pretty much all Spotify now for new releases, and often for older stuff that’s on there. Some older stuff (often mixtapes) that isn’t on spotify...some I keep on my phone back from when I downloaded them years ago, if not I’ll look for it on YouTube.Interesting. Ha.. you’re missing out man… This album literally has no misses. Even dropped a lauryn hill sample last night that was absolutely incredible.Since Kanye’s most recent goofy clown show started, Nas, Benny, Boldy James, and Westside Gunn have dropped albums. I’m GOOD. Lol.
When it actually comes out, I’m sure I’ll listen at some point. He’s been like 75% miss for me the last decade or so though, and I don’t find him likable and relatable like I did in his early years so...my expectations aren’t high.Ha.. you’re missing out man… This album literally has no misses. Although, he did replace Jay-Z’s verse on “Jail” with DaBaby, which im sure doesn’t convince you, at all, to listen to his events ha.
I can relate to the tortured, artistic soul, so I’ll always rock with Kanye, but I get it. TLOP was an all time great album, but after that - admittedly - he’s dropped a few incredible songs, mixed with a lot of forgettable stuff. When it actually comes out, I’m sure I’ll listen at some point. Im finding there’s a good 2-3 new albums a week that I’m into though, so I’m not exactly waiting on this Kanye to drop. IMO there’s just so many better producers than him now.

From what he’s played off Donda, this is not forgettable… every track is next level. Now he just needs to stop flirting with Drake and drop it.
With all his legal issues over the years, I’m wondering if maybe he just hasn’t put the time into rapping and performing needed to maintain his ability to do it?I crossed off another bucket list show, with seeing Slick Rick last night. That said, he should probably hang it up. I've been lucky, I think most of the old school artists I've seen were actually as good or better than I thought they'd be, Ricky wasn't one of them.
How have I never seen this thread!!! All of them were great concerts, seem them all at one point!!With all his legal issues over the years, I’m wondering if maybe he just hasn’t put the time into rapping and performing needed to maintain his ability to do it?
Been so long since I’ve been to a concert. Thinking of seeing both Benny and Conway this fall - different shows and tours though.
Best concert I went to as far as legends go was LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and De La Soul back in 2013. All of them were strong performers still. My only complaint was Ice Cube’s song selection. The rest of the them stuck mostly to their late 80s-early 90s classics. Cube was out there doing WestSide Connection stuff and “you can do it put your back into it.” SMH, lol.
First real hip hop concert was Run DMC! They rocked "here we go" and the place went crazy. Other great shows were Whodini, UTFO, BDP! Too many to remember! Can't really get into that stuff today for the most part.. don't even consider it hip hop to be honest, nor are they rappers. How have I never seen this thread!!! I don’t think I belong in this thread ha. Y’all stay hyping the most boring music like Nas new album (which nosedived after the first couple songs) and then hate on Donda.Listened to Donda this AM, I’m all excited hoping it’s the return of old ye...and then...oooof..the hottest of garbage.
autotune, casio drums, and bass drops. No thanks. I’m good.
the Lauren Hill sample is good tho and Jay z’s verse
also I swear Jay electronica does the same lines in every song
