Hmmm

Regardless of who leaves unless it is McDonald we are going to be fine. Plenty of good coaches out there that would love to be part of an up and coming program in the ACC

McDonald was really hurt at the backlash he received during the year on his sputtering offense. I wouldn't be surprised if he bolted.

If this is true, I have one question... What in the fluck is up with all of these Butt-Hurt Uber-Sensitive football coaches?

Marrone - Didn't like negative press and negative fan feedback
Bill O'Brien - Didn't like the negative comments from fans
McDonald - (presumably) didn't like the negative comments from fans about offensive struggles.

GAWD...grow a pair fellas.

I think there's not a coach out there who likes negative fan feedback. McDonald says he gets it, it's a part of the job.

If he leaves it won't be because of that. It will be a better job... And I don't think it'll be this season. He's tight with the other coaches - you don't bolt after one season, if these guys are his best friends. Maybe after a few years and it's a step up - friends/coaches get that.

His brand is recruiting, that attracts a lot of schools including the big boys, a power team coming off a down year could easily make a play for him.

He came from Arkansas. Isn't that a down power school?

He was the WR coach there for only a few weeks before he left for Syracuse.

Why do people assume this is a negative situation?

Why can't it be a positive? I can't see it being Shafer, and McDonald didn't prove enough to anyone to be hired as an OC at a bigger school than SU. As long as we do not lose our head coach our our primary FL recruiter, we will be just fine. If not better than before.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't we be able to pay more than competitive salaries for position coaches now that the ACC money will start to take effect?

I still think it is Moore. Either because Marrone wants him or HCSS knows Rob disdains recruiting and is asking him to leave

I have come to the opinion that GMAC did about as much as could have been expected under the circumstances and with the talent he had (or lack thereof) with which to work.

I never liked the Allen decision but I understood it. It was quickly reversed, which is all that one can reasonably ask.

He was severely limited by our lack of front line receivers. Fortunately, this seems to be about to change with the emergence of freshman and a promising recruiting class.

I screamed at the TV at certain play calls my fair share of times but that goes with being a fan. I think he is going to put a fast high powered offense on the dome carpet over the next few years. I'm all in.

____ is leaving because ______
Shafer ... this town isn't hard-nosed enough
McDonald ... he's having more trouble closing with recruits than expected/remembered how much he hates the cold
Bullough ... somebody is going to hire Dick Jauron and he's going back to the pros
Lester ... hard feelings over how the starting QB was chosen this season
Moore ... Marrone called/recruiting/philosophical or personnel disagreements with OC, who is also a WR specialist
Perles ... Steelers just fired their OL coach, used to work for their OC Todd Haley
Smith ... offered a better gig somewhere
Daoust ... offered a coordinator job at a smaller school
Lea ... has ties to leading candidate to replace Franklin at Vandy, his alma mater
Reed ... unit underperformed/NJ area recruiter available at this spot

Only names I'd be O.K. with are Reed, Moore, Smith, or Bullough. Perles did a great job with the line. McDonald is a growing offensive coordinator with recruiting strength. Lea, I think, has actually been the best recruiter. Daust is a fiery son of a gun, kids are probably attracted to his coaching style, and I liked what he did with special teams. I just LOVE Lester and the way he talks. I could see him being the next O Coordinator should McDonald leave. Shafer. Enough said.

Perles was an out of work (for a season) journeyman when he was hired. He had a good year, no doubt about it, but I'm not sure it's enough to get him a much better gig.
Following up on my compiliation post above, which I planned to be funny until things got real...

Prior to this job, Perles was assistant OL coach for the Chiefs under Head Coach Todd Haley. Haley is now the OC for the Steelers, who fired their OL coach today.

Well, crap.

Smith? Him and Lester have been killing it in Chicago.

Okay, I'm going to just come out and say it - I have feeling it's HCSS

And I'm never wrong.

Can we please replace whoever is leaving with somebody who has good ties to NJ and the Northeast?

Isn't Hafley on the market again after Schiano got canned?

LOL. He appears to be a bit sensitive, yes. He should definitely try to catch on at a B1G, SEC or Big 12 school, those fans are well-known for being pleasant and accomadating.

And most of them have their own For Sale signs that they carry around with them. With the tagline "I hope you die"

Backlash? IMO much of the criticism was justified, including the decision to start the season with Allen at QB. Hell, this board is even critical of a HoF coach like Boeheim.
Despite the occasional criticism, I get the impression McDonald is generally well-thought of and I hope he doesn't go anywhere. I would love to see how some of his recruits impact on our offense in the coming years. Him leaving now would be a huge blow to the program.

i like mcdonald but he is sensitive. he responds to people on twitter directly who tweet him and say he should be fired. every fan base has those ridiculous fans but he is thin skinned. there was one guy he tweeted back i think weeks later after the BC and bowl games and the guy ended up apologizing. it was nothing short of awkward IMO to do as a high level coach. he needs to ignore the BS, but i hope he stays.

McDonald went at me last Summer when I was trying to give the guy a compliment. Think skinned? Sure...but I want him here, period.
