How many Syracuse fans are there?

It's the 2 dollar window that keeps race tracks open. It's the dollar slots that keep casino's open. Whales are great. But blocking and tackling win games. I also think there are a lot more than 100k Syracuse fans.

I’m with Jake and Scooch on this. It’s a game for whales. Anyone would rather have 5 big clients than attempt 100 small ones.

If the massive low dollar thing worked our AD and others would do that. They do not. They hunt big donors and have them raise money from their well off friends.

You need both for sustainability though. There is a reason WV is top dog right now and it's quite clear that having both is key for them. Just check out the Country Roads Trust site.

When you've got someone with $1B in Net worth... that isn't clearly establishing their cash flow coming in every year. So even with the whales, those liquid assets we don't have a handle on.

Sure, that's the math, but we're not getting 50K to donate $60 a year.

How many people donated to SU athletics at all last year? I think you can add that to our season ticket base for football and hoops (unduplicated) and not get close to 50K.

I'd have to see the actual numbers they are working with what their hit rate is. I've ran similar campaigns and somewhere in between 2-3% is doable. I agree we need to hit whales, but it can be done with the right sort of campaign.

School’s must secretly love Nil. They only have “so much they can do” to improve it, so they’re not completely on the hook when things go poorly when they otherwise should have their lions share of blame

Can anyone point me in the direction of the annual financials of the 315 Foundation, Inc?

As a 501(C)(3) charitable organization, they are required to file their financials annually as a public document on IRS Form 990.

This site is supposed to have it, but I can't find anything for the "315 Foundation, Inc." in Syracuse, NY or Pittsford, NY:

How many people give $5 to a the red pots at xmas over the years?

I think $20 donations you could get a decent amount of people to buy in but how do you locate them?

$100 donations no nearly as many. We cant even get people to buy all the $100 fball seats.
Those red pots feed, house and rehabilitate the homeless.

Says they were established in June of 22, perhaps they dont need to file one until next year?

Thanks. I see I can designate basketball but not sure where that $ goes. Can it go to a specific player (Syracuse fan organizes a direct effort to keep someone)? can it go to a recruiting/transfer fund?

I think it would benefit the fund and increase donations if there was some further explanation. Not even sure what is legal to ay or do
Quite sure this was AWs issue.

Ahhh... think that they would still need to file for 2022, but very well could be the 22 report is not yet publicly available yet since tax deadline just hit. Thx.

So it would be a 2022 filing. Many won't file until later this year or early next. I posted about this a few times previously as I am very curious myself

Yeah, would seem there are a couple of (unknown) factors that could affect posting timeframe for form 990, including:
  • Organization's fiscal year (could begin in June for 315)
  • Filing extension requests

Form 990s must be filed by the 15th day of the fifth month after the end of an exempt organization's accounting period, but they can request filing extensions. So, if an organization's fiscal year ends on December 31, it might not send its Form 990 to IRS until 11 months later.

Correct. Many request extensions Especially newer organizations. I had thought maybe the organization's originated in 2021 at first getting my timeline mixed up.

If you had to choose between purchasing season’s tix or giving that money to a collective, which would you choose?

Yeah, don't even think the word "donation" should even be used when speaking of sponsoring player NIL. This is fueling student-player salaries.

This isn't rocket science. Other schools are way ahead of the game as has been notated. Cuse just needs to take the best ideas and run with it. Not as easy as if Cuse was a public university, but it's 2023 and time moves quickly.

Agreed. At this point, I don’t see a reason to not go all in with the NBA and leave college basketball behind. Better protect, players are professionals just like the college kids, and I’m not being asked to pay for it.

If we can be a contender year after year there will obviously be a larger following but right now I’m not sure we were on top of this when we should’ve been.

I'm not sure anyone is on top of it. This whole HD thing with two programs that can get other elite talent as they want it fighting with crazy numbers ( even if false) is just stupid. Give the G League the kind of bump that it needs to be a more popular league to follow and see where the cards fall from there.

The University of Iowa has had a whole thing with one of their collectives because they refuse to give them the season ticket holder list because their policy is not to give that information to third parties. Not sure if it's been resolved or not.
SU as a private school probably could let the collectives buy ads in its publications/emails to alumni, etc.
Public schools doing this might open up questions of who can advertise and who can be barred.
But a private school likely could do it fairly easily.

Drop it to $10 and ask the question again I bet the amount of people who say yes would increase Does it go up by 10x? Unsure but I bet it would great close I’m out at $100 and in at $10

I was thinking once a year. And I do not view it as giving the money to some 20 year old. I look at it as spending money for my viewing pleasure. Much like I do for all the extras with my tv viewing.
It’s like going to the movies. Your ticket cost goes back to the actors in royalties.

Maybe local or regional businesses could donate a portion of proceeds to a fund, and advertise accordingly. I can see a local brewery making a vaNILla porter or something. Add a buck to the cost, and pass that along to the fund.

Where was it notated and who defined what’s good or bad? All I’ve seen is comparisons of in and out and we rank pretty good. And we know NIL was involved with each.

I defer to your expertise.

That being said… I think I’d prefer SU tap into a broader base for facility, scholarship and endowed position funding.

I’d rather leave NIL to the heavy hitters.

I suspect in a world of fungible resources, that’s the most optimal way forward.

There were a few posts what other schools are doing and on the surface they seemed much more fan friendly. The WVU one had Jerry West, Darryl Talley and about ten other former star athletes repping their NIL. Are any former Syracse athletes involved?
