how many years do we have to pretend

The worst thing that ever happened to this program was Buddy being a high caliber D1 prospect. Obviously, nothing against him and he had a great career but the unfortunate timing of it delayed his father leaving and allowed the program to erode further. The Hop era may not have worked but the program wouldn’t be in the disastrous state it’s in now.

This sucks.

I’ll always believe that Autry was the guy we needed to hire to get Boeheim out. For a few reasons.

Maybe that’s not the best way to hire a coach, but it likely was the best way to move on from the one we had who clearly did not want to leave. Ever.

So he gets the rest of this year and next. And then we’ll see.
There is no way I can make the emotional or financial investment in this team for this season, let alone next season too.

I’m fine after this season. Leaders detect a problem and fix it. The honeymoon is over for a guy who never ever coached. Program is falling further down a cliff.

Go get Shaka smart or someone w the ability to build

You actually know this - Shaka is from WI, why would he leave home where's he's successful and 3 million a year?

I was very much on that train in his VCU days.

Hindsight is 20/20. The hiring decision was fine. He’s been better at the part that was the problem, recruiting and portal usage. We just didn’t expect him to be as bad at the coaching part as he seems to be.

Probably time to move on to somebody different and probably somebody outside of the ‘family.’
I think you had to hire Red, but I also think he was put in a difficult position to succeed but did everything possible to make it worse.

Every move he made that was questioned he was wrong about, and now he's beyond panicked in game and just throwing players out there with no rhyme or reason.

In game, I think the game moves far too fast for him, very weird considering the kind of player he was.

I don't know what role the assistants have, but if they're doing anything I couldn't tell.

First the AD and Chancellor have to decide if they’re in the basketball business or not. The days of hoovering up revenue due to a huge committed fan base and a HOF coach giving them a discount are over.
I’m worried the answer might be “not”.

Is he the one who said Carlos’s advanced metrics were great? Then hard pass. I just lived through the Chaim Bloom era as a Sox fan, I don’t need a repeat of that with SU hoops.
The Red Sox have 4 guys ranked in the top 10 among minor league prospects. That was what Bloom was hired for.

100%, everyone complaining that a national search wasn't done doesn't realize JB was gonna go scorched earth on the way out if SU didn't hire red. It's been mentioned a dozen + times now, SU didn't do a national search because they couldn't.

I don’t know why you would leave a successful Big East gig for our job, especially if we are as behind in facilities as our insiders say. They can keep rolling into the tournament with a high seed and keep cashing checks for as long as they like. If you don’t that’s a football program to worry about you don’t need to be P4 to compete at the highest level in hoops. Many schools have proven this.

And not just JB. All his former players would have raised holy hell too.

$$$$$$$ We will have to pay probably more than any other coach we have ever paid. JW is going to have to open the checkbook he can't go cheap after Red or we might as well pack it up.

It doesn’t.

Hmmmm not 100% sure on that anymore. I think he will get 3rd year but each performance like today will keep throwing doubt in the minds of JW, Boosters, and fans. 9-21 with an empty dome will not be good for Red. It will be hard to feed us the best recruiting class ever coming in since we were just sold that a few years ago with JB before he was let go.

I know it is hard to see sometimes, but I am fully convinced they don't want to lose football, basketball, or membership in a power conference.

It doesn’t.

Dunno. 9 wins or less and a *large* amount of season ticket sales are at risk. Recurring revenue takes years to build, it's not something to take lightly.

If the insider rumors are true, it sounds like the chancellor is "not".

That said, the chancellor has some big problems with academic rankings tanking and university academic image problems... Not sure he's in a safe position himself to be wrecking more things, but who knows?

I’m as much worried about how long it will take for the administration to end this as I am about its ability to assess candidates for the next HC.

There are probably a bunch of fans who are muttering (maybe screaming), “See?! You got what you asked for.” But this is just the first step. Don’t they burn a forest to the ground to sorta ‘reset’ against some bad conditions? This was going to be a process, and hopefully it gets done quickly and not in another protracted, sentimental, agonizing manner.

I hope Kiyan isn‘t an obstacle. He can be a really good player, but he’s not a generational, program- changing talent. The problem with alienating him is in alienating an NBAHoF dad (and those media optics), but I hope Carmelo wants the best coach for his son, not necessarily the most familiar coach.

What would JB have done that would he so horrible?

I don't see how you could bring him back under 10 wins.
Melo’s kid is coming here. I think that’s Autry’s golden ticket. Maybe it shouldn’t be but I suspect it is.

I just don't see it, I don't know what will happen but I don't see how either of these guys will come here after watching what we've been watching. This isn't coming to come where dad played or come have fun with your friend, we're talking millions and potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in future earnings at stake.
