Hunt just won the job if Shafer has a brain**

Hunt TD run is what i was trying to tell people. Hunt is hard to bring down. He is elusive enough to make things happen. He may not be straight ahead fast but his running ability can add a dimension to the offense and help with consistency
That dimension will be sorely needed after the next 2 games.

This has been my pet peeve. Why are we running the option read offense with a QB who does not run? I don't care what their 40s are. Hunt, 2nd team and all, is a better runner. Much more elusive. So he gets the point there. Then if you saw his command of the offense and how fast plays were run I don't see how you can't agree. I also would like to see more of funderburke while I'm at it. He has the ability to catch the football. I hear that is an important attribute in a wideout.

Hunt should have started the 2nd half.

Maybe not second half, but definitely the 4th quarter. Watching Allen throw balls that the OLs and LBs can tip is about as pleasurable as wiping with sandpaper.

Practice is practice. Games are games. Some guys are great practice players but stink in games. Hunt seemed in command out there. Composed and was a leader. That goes a long way in my book, practice be damned.

I was all for Allen at the beginning of the year. He seemed to have all the tools. Obviously, that hasn't translated in the games. I also believe that the results of those two games are still losses with any other QB in there which includes Hunt. There are a lot of problems with this team from the coaching staff on down. Most of these units are trying to overcome great losses and plenty of talent. I often think we forget how good Nassib was. What a blessing to have watched him mature into an NFL quarterback. What he brought to the equation last season cannot be duplicated and should not be forgotten.

With that understanding, at this point, i cannot see how much worse the offense would do with Hunt in there. Without alot of dynamic playmakers in the WR corps i think it makes sense to have a QB who isn't afraid to tuck it and run or even has designed runs for him. Hopefully, for what Hunt lacks in the QB measurables he makes up for as a playmaker. The ability to extend a play with your legs would be very benificial with this current offense. This offense just doesn't seem fit for a drop-back gunslinger. As much as we love our guys we simply don't have the weaspons at WR at this point. And the offensive line (without this being a knock on them) isn't as good as last year and that is another thing working against us.

All in all, i think that the coaching staff should go with the guy moving forward that is gonna be under center at the end of the year. The next two games will be huge for development of the QB role moving forward. The offense can finally play with confidence and get organized. So what the coaches do in the Wagner and Tulane games will be hugely telling as to thier perspective in all of this. Personally, i think they start giving some run to Hunt starting this week.

P.S. If you start Hunt it increases our chances with Holley :)

I think the next game might be an indication of just how hardheaded (not hardnosed) Coach Shafer is.

He'll probably start Allen this weekend against an inferior team to shore up his own self image as a competent chooser of QB's. Allen will then (maybe) rack up some impressive stats.

But...if he continues to sit Hunt, my opinion of Shafer will not be positive. These are games where both QB's should be given snaps.

Agree completely. In the long run, continuing to start Allen is coaching suicide.

I wonder if we don't borrow from NW a little and have both play this week. If it works well?

Just like he did in the spring game. He plays again the 2nd or 3rd team and people think he is passable. Not this year!

I could not agree more. Some kids hate practice and are just gamers. Some kids are great in practice but cant get it done in games. Games are what matter

Due to family obligations didn't get to see the NW game. I am glad SyracuseFan.com has so many experts! I can blindly say Bench Allen Play Hunt!! Thanks guys. ;)

Try having the two QBs my Trojans have, especially considering the caliber of recruits they were. I'd argue Hunt/Allen > Kessler/Wittek. Oy. ;)

Can't blame the loss or performance on one player, one coach, or one bad set of plays. Put Hunt in and when we fall behind even worse at the next game against an easier team, then we can start picking on someone else. Not!! The problem is not with the talent, it's with the coordination. We don't have time for it now, but unfortunately time and practice is what it's going to take for this new team to get acclimated.

Interestingly enough Allen closed the preseason scrimmage by throwing back to back picks. Seems like a bit of foreshadowing now.

It's not impossible to play them both. It seemed to work for Northwestern tonight. Two totally different styles.
That truism that if you have two quarterbacks you have none is a bunch of baloney.

Allen has essentially ruined this season for me after two games... If they keep running him out there I will continue to lose interest. He just sucks and I hate the hired gun aspect of it too, you know the kids are behind Hunt and Charlie. They need to sit Allen.

It's so clear that his delivery, vision. and lack of feel is why he has never started before. Why can't coaches admit they up and move on?

He has all the physical tools but nothing else, he is the anti Paulus!!! Greg lacked size and strenghth because he played hoop for 4 years but kid had feel for the game, fakes, etc

all the hardnose stuff is a bunch of nonsense. he's a big fraidy cat about punting, allen does not strike me as hard nosed, hunt does

There are too many other problems at this point for to me to bitch about punting... HUNT IS HARDNOSED. Allen is soft, plays small, and should be sitting on the bench. Get back to running the football with 1 of 4 running backs that you have! and the QB. I think we would be amazed how much better the receivers and O Line look when we have a qb that can move around a bit!!!

Shafer isn't hardnosed, I agree, He is a talking head and just like every other overpaid phys ed teacher out there, coaching scared to keep their job!!!!!!

I think MACKY is hardnosed and should walk into practice today and pimp slap Shafer, tell him to start HUNT and be done with it

Oy. Shafer is tough. Go back and watch the presser after the loss. The players love the guy for that fire.

If punting makes you less of a man - I think you just defamed about every guy who has ever coached.

Also, you could make the case that punting, believing in your Defense is more hard nosed than letting the offense go for it (ESP our offense!)

if you're going to have a qb who completes 50% of his passes, he better be able to run

you know what's not hardnosed? handing off every time you do a read option

You my friend are not hardnosed nor is Shafer... Your membership card has been revoked.

You know what isn't hardnosed? Having receivers 15 yards open all night long, that my friend is not hardnosed.

you can't make the case for punting

they were down 21. it's easier to use miles instead of yards to describe the defense's performance at that point.

the defense promptly gave up a TD, like they did the whole game

shafer is a big mouth
